Athlone Minerals
Kürzel: ATH.V
WKN: 590091
Oil and Gas Explorer
Kosten per Well: C$350,000
Erlös: $20popd
Resultate der ersten beiden Drillings:
+ Well 1, 107 bopd open flow test - technisch reduziert auf 40bopd.
+ Well 2, 20 bopd open flow test.
Da ist Athlone Minerals hinter her.
ATH.V bietet für jeden was.

Aus jedem well will man zwischen 100 und 400 MCF (1000 Kubikfuss), also 100,000 - 400,000 Kubikfuss pro Tag fördern.

My Top Stock Pick for 2004
Dr Richard Appel
January 15, 2004
Each year, the Dick David Digest invites me to briefly describe my favorite company for the upcoming year for inclusion in their newsletter. This is a difficult task to undertake, as they limit my description to only 200 words of text. In this as in every year I do my best to touch on the most important aspects of the company that I best like. Yet, after submitting the copy to Dick Davis I am always left with the feeling that a more complete description is warranted to more thoroughly present the reasoning behind my selection for my year`s first choice.
Below is the text of my top stock pick for 2004, as recently submitted to the Dick Davis Digest:
ATHLONE MINERALS LTD.
(ATH, $1.30 C.,TSX-VENTURE)
Owning shares of Athlone is a play on its exceptional management. Among its directors is David Smith. Prior to 1982, he was Vice President of Exploration for Shell Canada where he was instrumental in the discovery and development of about 15 trillion feet of natural gas. Subsequently, and prior to its sale, Mr. Smith built Lasmo Canada into a 5,000 barrel a day oil producer.
Athlone`s objective is to become an important oil and natural gas producer by exploiting low risk projects that offer immediate payback or that are substantial in size. In the few months since entering the oil patch Athlone has acquired the right to earn into up to 140 sections (89,600 acres) in the Belle Fourche project in Saskatchewan. Athlone has since drilled five wells there and, using the preliminary results, have acquired an additional 35 sections (22,000 acres). They are in the process of completing and testing the wells and just closed a $4.5 C. million financing to fund further drilling.
Given Athlone`s wealth of contacts in the industry, as well as $30+ oil and $5 + natural gas prices, I am confident that Athlone will bring similar important projects into the company. I first featured Athlone at $0.84 C. and own shares of the company.
The following are additional reasons that led me to choose Athlone as my "top pick," along with a more complete discussion of the company`s development to date.
Due to the ascendency of China and India as well as to the depletion of the vast majority of the world`s known oil and gas reserves many industry experts believe that the current natural gas and oil prices will hold. Further, they may even appear reasonable in the not too distant future. Alan Greenspan recently stated that sufficient U.S. gas supplies were in jeopardy due to their rapid depletion and the questions remaining surrounding their replacement. Additionally, only a few days ago Royal Dutch/Shell, in a surprise announcement, stated that they were reducing their proven oil and gas reserves by 20%. This immediately raised the question of the validity of the oil and gas reserves of the world`s major hydrocarbon producers, and further increases the likelihood of sustained or advancing oil and gas prices.
Prior to mid-2003, Athlone`s mandate was to explore for economic precious or base metal deposits. However, recognizing the potential windfall generated to the oil and natural gas industry by the oil and gas Bull Markets, Athlone`s management recently astutely elected to redirect their focus to take advantage of this condition.
Athlone has advanced greatly in the brief period since I first featured the company in the October, 2003 issue of Financial Insights. Prior to the recent explosion in the prices of oil and natural gas, exploration companies were forced to use a $20 or less price per barrel of oil, and a $2.00 to $2.50 per million cubic feet (mcf) gas price, in order to determine the economics of a project. This resulted from the extended period, prior to 2000, when oil ranged between about $10 and $30 a barrel and natural gas was range bound between about $1.75 and $3.50 per mcf. Importantly, since 2000, both oil and natural gas have trended sharply higher in price and the prospects for their maintaining these lofty levels are beginning to become widely accepted in the industry. Thus, prices substantially above $20 for oil and $2.50 for natural gas are beginning to be utilized when industry experts make their various economic calculations.
During the earlier era, when the industry utilized a maximum of about $20 for oil and $2.50 for natural gas, many potential exploration plays were often rejected due to either the depth of the possible resource or for various technical reasons. In effect, they laid dormant due to the fact that the risk involved and the cost of discovery and production were not warranted due to the low gas and oil prices. This was more pronounced for natural gas because oil can be easily transported by tanker trucks while gas needs the availability of a pipeline for delivery to the purchaser. This condition can drastically impact the overall cost of a natural gas project and dictate its success or failure. Further, and for these reasons, earlier natural gas deposits were often found but were ignored. The company may have completed an economic oil well, but an accompanying natural gas resource in a different horizon was useless to them, because it may have been too expensive to move the gas to market. Now, this situation has drastically changed.
To the advantage of Athlone, during the past four or more decades, numerous wells were drilled throughout the world that found oil or natural gas. Some of these hydrocarbon discoveries were economic but many were not due to economic considerations. Today, with far higher oil and gas prices, numerous heretofore uneconomic hydrocarbon horizons have now become economic and ripe for reevaluation and possible production. This offers knowledge people a window of opportunity to return and possibly profitably complete these wells or to drill new ones with a minimum of risk. The element of risk is reduced because much information is already known from earlier performed work, which greatly increases the odds for success.
Since turning their energies towards the oil patch Athlone has already acquired two projects. Their first, the Success, is a 50% owned project with a maximum 5% royalty, into which Athlone has already drilled two wells. These were offsets to two existing oil wells that have produced over 165,000 barrels of oil. They were drilled in 1966 and 1988. Due to the close proximity of Athlone`s wells to those that they offset, Athlone is presented with very little risk. If they are successful on either well they plan to drill two additional ones and will acquire as much of the surrounding land as possible. Further, if either well is economic it will immediately thrust Athlone into the select group of oil and gas producers. Yet, this project pales in magnitude and potential profitability to their second project, the Belle Fourche.
They have presently either earned into or have acquired about a 50% interest, less a 12% overriding royalty, in the mineral rights to 56 sections (36,000 acres) of land. Further they can earn a similar interest in an additional 119 sections (75,000 acres) as well as acquire further similarly prospective property in the region. Thus, if Athlone is successful with their first wells it will greatly increase the likelihood that their Belle Fourche project will develop into a major hydrocarbon play. Further, if they meet with success on their Belle Fourche project, the attention of the oil and gas industry will likely be quickly directed onto Athlone.
I have had lengthy discussions with Athlone`s management in order to understand why they believe that they can obtain large oil and gas exploration projects that offer only a modicum of risk. To me they have a brilliant concept. This is because the prospects for which they are searching will already possess sufficient information from earlier drilling, that will greatly increase their likelihood for success. It is with this concept firmly in mind that I believe Athlone is striving to ferret out one or more additional significant projects. And, their potential for success to this end appears excellent as they still have little competition. This is due to the numerous overlooked hydrocarbon horizons that were earlier uneconomic but have now become wildly so because of today`s $30+ oil and $5+ natural gas prices.
The market is anxiously awaiting the results of Athlone`s first seven wells. If they are successful with their first Belle Fourche wells the company`s future is sealed due to their already extensive land-holdings in the area. If not, given Athlone`s exceptional management team and many contacts in the industry, I am confident that they will continue to bring additional projects into the company which will offer both low risk and great potential.
I publish Financial Insights. It is a monthly newsletter in which I discuss gold, the financial markets, as well as various junior resource stocks that I believe offer great price appreciation potential.

I expect to have positions in many of the stocks that I discuss in these letters, and I will always disclose them to you. In essence, I will be putting my money where my mouth is! However, if this troubles you please avoid those that I own! I will attempt wherever possible, to offer stocks that I believe will allow my subscribers to participate without unduly affecting the stock price. It is my desire for my subscribers to purchase their stock as cheaply as possible. I would also suggest to beginning purchasers of these stocks, the following: always place limit orders when making purchases. If you don`t, you run the risk of paying too much because you may inadvertently and unnecessarily raise the price. It may take a little patience, but in the long run you will save yourself a significant sum of money. In order to have a chance for success in this market, you must spread your risk among several companies. To that end, you should divide your available risk money into equal increments. These are all specula-tions! Never invest any money in these stocks that you could not afford to lose all of.
Please call the companies regularly. They are controlling your investments.

Und das sagt er zu Athlone Minerals:

CAVEAT

Aus jedem well will man zwischen 100 und 400 MCF (1000 Kubikfuss), also 100,000 - 400,000 Kubikfuss pro Tag fördern.

The Amoeba project is relatively new to Ahtlone and is expected to be the lowest risk property of all. The area is a known Oil & Gas producing area already, with several of the large Oil Corporations present that produce from fairly deep horizons, fairly high production rates. However, these deep horizons are depleting and the majors are abandoning the wells.

David W. Smith
Position: Vice President, Oil and Gas
Mr. Smith worked for Shell Canada Ltd. for 28 years and rose to a final position of Vice President Exploration. Mr. Smith was instrumental in the discoveries and the development of several Rocky Mountain Foothills gas fields. In addition he managed the exploration of the Mackenzie Delta, the west coast offshore program and the Nova Scotia offshore program. After leaving Shell he set up and managed a worldwide exploration consulting company working primarily in Australia. He became President of Lasmo Canada Ltd. and remained with Lasmo until the company went public in 1988. In 1994 he became president and C.E.O. of a junior private company, Xxtra Oil Inc., which was later sold. He has been active as a consultant in Calgary since 1997. Mr. Smith`s mandate is to obtain farmins for the discovery of oil and gas reserves.
David A. Shaw
Position: Director
Dr. Shaw has a Ph. D. in structural geology from Carleton University and an honours degree in geology from the University of Sheffield, England. His career in mineral and petroleum exploration since 1978 has included senior corporate finance analyst for Yorkton Securities, manager of resource development for Charlton Securities and in-house structural geologist for Chevron Resources.

Also mach ich mir keinerlei Gedanken.

Aus jedem well will man zwischen 100 und 400 MCF (1000 Kubikfuss), also 100,000 - 400,000 Kubikfuss pro Tag fördern.

Success Wells Completed
Athlone Minerals Ltd. (the "Company") is pleased to announce that Athlone and their 50:50 partners, Prendegast Petroleum ("Prendegast") have drilled and completed two oil wells in the Success area of southwestern Saskatchewan. These wells were originally announced on September 18, 2003.
The first well was drilled to a total depth of 1,042 metres and tested at an initial production rate of 20 bopd.
The second well was drilled to a total depth of 1,083 metres and has an initial production rate of 107 bopd.
The wells were drilled to a Saskatchewan Crown Land Sale on December 9, 2003. Athlone and Prendegast were successful in purchasing a ½ section and a ¾ section parcel off-setting the successful wells. The partners will now consider follow-up drilling locations.
The Company also wishes to announce the granting of 900,000 options to officers, directors, employees and consultants of the Company. The options are priced at $1.35 per share for a period of two years. The foregoing is subject to TSX Venture Exchange acceptance.

1. David W.

Athlone estimates to contain about 0.4 – 0.6 Trillion Cubic Feet of Gas (Tcf)

BTW schau dir mal neos musterdepot an

Athlone Minerals reprices $3.3-million financing
2004-03-12 18:32 ET - News Release
Mr. Paul Reynolds reports
PRIVATE PLACEMENT RE-PRICED
Athlone Minerals has renegotiated the price of the non-brokered private placement reported in Stockwatch on Feb. 18, 2004. The company has negotiated a non-brokered private placement of 1,443,800 units and 1,099,663 flow-through units at a price of $1.30 per unit for gross proceeds of $3,306,502. Each unit will consist of one common share and one common share purchase warrant. Each warrant can be exercised to acquire one additional common (non-flow-through) share at an exercise price of $2 for one year.
Each flow-through unit will consist of one common share and one-half of one common share purchase warrant. Each full warrant can be exercised to acquire one additional common (non-flow-through) share at an exercise price of $2 for one year.
If after four months from closing, Athlone`s share price closes at $3 or greater for a period of 10 consecutive trading days, Athlone will give written notice to the warrantholders that the warrants will expire if unexercised within 30 days of the notice. A finder`s fee will be payable on a portion of the units. The proceeds will be used to finance the company`s oil and gas exploration projects, and for general working capital. The private placement is subject to TSX Venture Exchange approval.

Is Canada running out of natural gas?
Supplies adequate for next 80 years, industry says
Geologist fears production decline possible by 2011
JOHN SPEARS
BUSINESS REPORTER
It seems a simple enough question: How much natural gas does Canada really have at its disposal?
But it has touched off a heated debate among experts who have reached vastly different conclusions.
On one side of the debate is a stark alert from geologist David Hughes, who warns that Canada`s available supply of natural gas could start to decline as early as 2011.
On the other stands much of the gas industry, which insists Canada has adequate supplies for the next 80 years.
Interested bystanders are the millions of Canadian residents and businesses who use gas to warm their homes, fuel industrial equipment or act as source of raw materials in petrochemicals.
Especially interested is Ontario, which has vowed to shut down its coal-fired electricity generating stations by 2007.
Closing the coal-fired stations will make Ontario`s electricity supply, which is already tight, even tighter.
But nuclear plants can`t be built fast enough to replace the coal plants, nor could hydro-electric stations. And there are few suitable sites for new hydro-electric development remaining in the province.
That leaves natural gas.
"Gas is certainly the quickest to bring on, and probably the only thing you can think to bring on in the kind of time horizon let`s say between now and five years out," says Michael Cleland, chief executive of the Canadian Gas Association.
But is there enough? Or is Ontario about to compound its electricity problems by becoming more dependent on natural gas just as the supply gets squeezed?
John Manley, whose report on the future of Ontario`s electricity industry was released yesterday, acknowledged growing doubts about how much the province should rely on gas.
"If you went back three years now, you would probably say the solution (to the electricity supply shortage) is gas," Manley told a news conference. "Three years later, we`re saying: `Don`t know about the supply; the price we know is pretty volatile.`"
Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., which supplies 1.7 million Ontario homes and businesses, says there`s no near-term problem.
In recent presentations to government and industry gatherings, and in an interview, Enbridge officials paint an optimistic picture of North America`s gas supply.
North American gas resources — including proven and estimated (often called "undiscovered") resources — total 2,089 trillion cubic feet, Enbridge says, citing Canadian energy department numbers. With consumption at about 25 trillion cubic feet annually, that`s roughly 80 years of gas.
For Canada by itself, the picture is similar: Resources of 475 trillion cubic feet and annual consumption of about 6.3 trillion cubic feet, or more than 75 years of gas.
Including unconventional sources of supply — such as methane trapped in coal seams — boosts the figure even higher.
So what`s the problem?
In Hughes` mind, the problem is that the resource figures are being misused. He doesn`t question that the resources exist, but is skeptical they can be brought to market quickly, or at all.
His opinion carries weight. He is a member of the Canadian Gas Potential Committee, a respected group of industry and government experts that regularly analyzes Canada`s gas situation. He has written a detailed gas analysis published by the federal government.
"The issue is not resources, it`s deliverability," Hughes argues. "With the latest technology, we can`t deliver the gas fast enough to meet demand and demand growth."
Hughes notes that the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, which contains the big gas pools of Alberta and Saskatchewan, is slowly being depleted, and most of the large gas pools have already been found.
Hughes notes that past production and proven reserves totalling 161 trillion cubic feet have come from 29,000 gas pools. An estimated 88 trillion cubic feet remain — but it`s scattered in more than 200,000 pools that will require ever more drilling for ever less gas.
What`s more, National Energy Board data show that gas wells are becoming less productive. The average new well in Alberta produced 700,000 cubic feet a day in 1997. The average for a new well today is half that.
Production also is declining in the big gas fields in the western United States, Hughes notes.
Enbridge argues there`s far more to North America`s gas supplies than the traditional western basins. Alaska, the Mackenzie Delta and the Arctic islands all have significant untapped reserves, Frank Brennan, director of gas supply for Enbridge, points out. There`s potential offshore as well.
"There`s a fair amount of remaining resources in North America," he said in an interview, and Enbridge expects the pipelines needed to tap the new reserves will be built.
In addition, the company argues that natural gas, which traditionally moved only by pipeline, can now move across the world`s oceans. Gas can be cooled and liquefied, then moved in specially built tanker ships to terminals that convert it back into gas that can be shipped by pipeline.
"We think liquefied natural gas (LNG) will eventually add 15 to 20 per cent to the existing picture" of North American gas supplies, says Brennan.
The United States already has four LNG terminals handling up to 2 billion cubic feet of gas a day, he points out, and proposals are on the table to double that capacity, with proposals for more terminals in the works in both Canada and the United States.
Once again, Hughes is skeptical.
Supplying North America with offshore LNG on the scale imagined by Enbridge would entail a fleet of 200 tankers — an immense amount of ship-building, he figures.
He also questions how easy it will be to build the new LNG terminals required. LNG is volatile and flammable, and proposals for new terminals are likely to be met with hostility, he says.
Mexico recently vetoed a proposal for a new LNG terminal in Tijuana, Hughes notes. And local opposition to a new terminal in the Maine fishing town of Harpswell may have killed a proposed terminal there as well.
North America also has large quantities of methane trapped in the coal deposits of the west that could supplement conventional gas reserves. In theory, Hughes says, there are 500 trillion cubic feet of the gas — nearly 100 years of Canadian supply.
Once again, Hughes says, the issue is whether it can be tapped. Extracting methane isn`t easy, and production would have to grow hugely to offset declines in conventional production and increased demand.
"Right now we can deliver about 30 million cubic feet a day" of coal-bed methane, Hughes observes. That`s about one-fifth of 1 per cent of Canadian production.
"The in-place number is huge. But how much and how fast can that gas be delivered to market?"
Enbridge is confident that with appropriate government policies, well-designed markets, development of new gas-extraction technologies, increased use of renewable resources and aggressive conservation, there will be adequate gas supplies for the foreseeable future.
It projects stable and lower gas prices between now and 2010, on average, and stable gas prices through to 2020. (The company cautions there can be short-term volatility.)
Enbridge retained a consultant to model the effect on gas markets of replacing all of Ontario`s coal-fired generation with gas-fired plants.
The consultant figured Ontario would use an extra 292 billion cubic feet of gas annually. That`s a big number, but still represents only 1.2 per cent of North American consumption, and would have little impact on the price of gas.
Because gas is more expensive than coal, it would drive up the cost of electricity, but only by $40 to $50 a year for a typical residential customer.
Despite Enbridge`s generally optimistic outlook on gas supply, the company does urge caution on one front.
It believes the target of shutting down all Ontario`s coal generating plants by 2007 is very aggressive, and has informed the provincial government.
"We`ve indicated it would be much more prudent to phase these plants out over time," says John Bayko, director of energy technology for Enbridge.

Redwater Natural Gas Well to Commence Commercial Production Belle Fourche Update

Redwater Natural Gas Well to Commence Commercial Production, Belle Fourche Update =======================================================================
Athlone Minerals Ltd. (the "Company") announces that they have joined with three other partners and have drilled a Wabamum test at 11-7-58-23 W4M in the Redwater area of Alberta. The well was drilled to a total depth of 946 metres. The well was cased and log evaluation identified natural gas in three zones. The well was tested in the lowest zone, the basal quartz, and flowed at a rate of 250-300 thousand cubic feet (mcf) per day.
This well will be tied into a gas pipeline shortly and begin delivering natural gas. Athlone paid 11.9% of the completed well costs to earn a 13.75% working interest and Athlone`s participation opened the possibility to other prospects in the area.
Athlone further announces that they and their partners have drilled nine wells and tested four wells over three townships of land in the Belle Fourche area of S.E. Saskatchewan. The Company`s working interest is 75% BPO and 50% APO. These wells were drilled to test the potential of three shallow gas zones, the deepest of which was tested extensively and deemed to be unproductive. Gas was tested in the middle shallow zone and flowed at initial rates of 200 mcf per day. This zone requires additional production testing to verify the extent of the reservoir and if successful will indicate an area of interest for further drilling. Dependent upon rig availability and weather, it is anticipated that this work will be completed within four weeks.
Athlone is well financed with $3.7 million in cash and is actively pursuing several natural gas prospects.

Hallo zusammen!

Athlone Minerals Ltd. (the "Company") announces that they and two partners have acquired a one section parcel of crown land in the Whitecourt area through the Alberta government Crown landsale on April 7, 2004. Under the terms of the arrangement, Athlone will pay 50% of the cost of acquisition and recompletion to earn a 35% working interest in the well. The partners plan to re-enter, fracture and evaluate a suspended gas well. If successful, the partners envisage production from this well at a forecast rate in excess of one million cubic feet per day.
Encouraging developments in the first two oil wells in the Success field show the possibility of at least two more locations on land held by Athlone and its partner. Athlone is currently awaiting an accounting of the first two months production.
Athlone is well financed with $3.7 million in cash and is actively pursuing several natural gas projects in western Canada.

Update von Dr. Appel(Mai)
Athlone Minerals suffered a severe price decline during the past month. Eight of the nine natural gas wells that were drilled in their Belle Fourche project in Saskatchewan are being abandoned. The eastern-most well initially flowed at a rate of about 200,000 cubic feet per day and is awaiting further testing. This should be completed within three weeks. About 50% of Athlone’s joint-ventured land-holdings in Belle Fourche lie east of that well. If is proves successful the project can still become profitable. Unfortunately, I for one do not maintain much hope for the play given the recent developments. However, I do believe that most of the selling pressure has abated and that the odds favor the lows having likely been posted. Athlone is managed by the same group that guides Cardero Resources. If you will recall last July, Cardero’s initial project appeared to have failed. The stock collapsed from over $2.75 C. to $0.60 C., only to recover and later trade as high as $4.00 C. I have had conversations with Athlone’s management and feel that they are making some important, positive decisions. They still have their Amoeba play for which they are awaiting the availability of a drill to test. I remain positive in my belief that Athlone’s directors will build the company into an oil and gas producer.

Dr. Appel (Juni):
I recently spoke with the directors of Athlone Minerals. While the results from their Belle Fourche play have been disappointing they still plan on testing their easternmost well. Further, I was incorrect in stating in my last Letter that they abandoned the other wells that they drilled there. They assured me that they have not, and plan to work on them in the future. The company still has $3.5 C. million in cash. Further, they and their partner have acquired an additional 5 sections in their Amoeba play in Alberta, which they anticipate drill testing as soon as they can acquire a rig. This well will be quite significant for the company if it is successful. Additionally, beginning in early July, Athlone should be receiving about $375,000 C. annually from the sale of natural gas and oil from their three successful wells on two other projects. They are also continuing to look for additional opportunities and, by early summer, they expect to participate in the re-completion of a potentially major gas well at White Court.
Guten Morgen Jungs und Mädels,
Zitat meines Postings #41 aus dem ersten Thread (Nr.811633) vom 21.01.2004:
Ich mahne zur äussersten Vorsicht!
Zitat von Dr.B:
" The market is anxiously awaiting the results of Athlone`s first seven wells." !!!

August:
Athlone Minerals is in the process of restructuring itself. They announced two new directors to their board who already have a number of oil and gas successes behind them. Further, Athlone reported the re-entry and completion of a well in the Thorsby area of Alberta. It flowed at rates in excess of one million cubic feet per day on the initial tests. Athlone has a 20% working interest in the well and hopes to place it in production within 45 days.

Ein enttäuschter Dr. Appel:
I am also carefully watching Athlone Minerals, Brett Resources, CMQ Resources, General Minerals Corporation and Solomon Resources. I hope that they will all begin to generate news that will justify my confidence in them, but at the present they have not lived up to my high expectations.
Shares of Athlone Minerals have suddenly firmed in price. I spoke with their management and was informed that they were proceeding on three projects. Additionally, they are working on further enhancing their management and making additional acquisitions. A few weeks ago there was a 1.2 million share cross of its stock. This was likely done to position and give an incentive to one or more of the new people who the company hopes will turn them around. I will continue following this company for now because the price action of the stock appears to confirm what I was told by their management. The path of least resistance seems to finally be up, but it will take much before I am convinced that a real turnaround has occurred.

Athlone Minerals retreated in price once again only to attract significant bids and higher prices last week. A rumor is circulating that they have encountered success on drilling one of their projects. I continue to view Athlone in a wait and see fashion. I have not heard of any progress in improving its management but its stock’s price action leads me to believe that something important is likely in the works.

Athlone Minerals may be one of the major beneficiaries of the end of tax-loss selling. After posting a $1.95 C. high it plummeted to a $0.25 C. low. I have been carefully monitoring its price action and believe that it has the potential to shortly stage a sharp price recovery. There has not been an announcement for quite some time, but there have been a number of ready buyers who quickly absorbed the large amount of stock sold by the tax-loss sellers. I do not believe that they are buying without having confidence in being able to later sell these shares for far higher prices.

I am removing Athlone Resources from the companies that I follow in Financial Insights. I have refrained from its elimination because I had hoped that they had the potential to recover a substantial portion of their losses. They recently announced that they had completed two wells at their Smokey Lake project and had placed them into production. Athlone has a 75% interest in the combined 280,000 cubic ft./day of natural gas production and also acquired additional land in the area. While it is likely that their share price will trend higher I have lost confidence in their management, and I feel that there are better opportunities in which to invest.

Athlone Energy Ltd. - 2006 Second Quarter Highlights
Athlone Energy Ltd. ( "Athlone", the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Company's second quarter financial statements for the period ended July 31, 2006 together with the related management's discussion and analysis has been filed. For a complete copy of the report please visit www.sedar.com or the Company's website at www.athlone.com.
Highlights of the second quarter ended July 31, 2006 include:
- Revenue of $879,140 compared to $127,814 in Q2 2005 an increase of 588%. Approximately 45% of the revenue was achieved in the last month of the quarter which is a reflection of increased production from new drilling and the lifting of trucking restrictions after spring break up.
- Net income of $222,646 compared to a net loss of $205,022 in Q2 2005 an increase of 209%.
- Average production of 191 boepd compared to 43 boepd in Q2 2005 an increase of 344%.
- Completed and tested four wells in the Lloydminster core area including a new pool wildcat discovery. Athlone has a 100% working interest in all of these wells.
- Established a $2.5 million credit line with the National Bank of Canada.
- Added to Athlone's existing land position in west central Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan.
Athlone's current production of 305 boepd ( August, 2006 ) is weighted approximately 90% to oil and 10% to gas and therefore the company has not been affected by the large drop in gas prices over the past six months. As was mentioned in the September 19, 2006 operational press release, the company is reviewing expansion of its capital budget for the remainder of the year.
The term barrels of oil equivalent "boe" may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation. A boe conversion ratio of six thousand cubic feet ( 6 mcf ) to one barrel ( 1 bbl ) is based on an energy equivalency conversion method primarily applicable at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead.

Athlone Energy Ltd. Announces Filing of 2006 Third Quarter Interim Report Ending October 31, 2006
10:26 EST Thursday, December 21, 2006
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 21, 2006) - Athlone Energy Ltd. ("Athlone", the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:ATH) is pleased to announce that the Company's third quarter ending October 31, 2006 together with the related management's discussion and analysis has been filed. For a complete copy of the report please visit www.sedar.com or the Company's website at www.athlone.com.
The third quarter represented strong growth in terms of revenue, cash flow, production and reserve additions. Third quarter revenue of $1,164,327 almost equaled the entire revenue of $1,326,933 for the previous fiscal year ended January 31, 2006. Athlone has demonstrated steady growth in the first three quarters of this year with revenues of $636,954, $885,161 and $1,164,327 respectively.
Highlights of the third quarter ended October 31, 2006 include:
- Average production of 300 boepd for the third quarter compared to an average of 191 boepd for the second quarter, an increase of 57%;
- Revenue of $1,164,327 for the third quarter compared to $885,161 in the second quarter an increase of 32%;
- Net Income of $438,297 for the third quarter compared to $222,646 in the second quarter an increase of 97%;
- On October 13, 2006 the National Bank of Canada increased Athlone's total credit line from $2.5 million to $2.9 million based on production and financial performance to date;
- Drilled and completed 2 new wells in the Lloydminster area one of which is a new pool discovery at Wildmere. One well was on production during the quarter, the second well was placed on production subsequent to the end of the quarter; and
- Shot and interpreted 7.23 square kilometers of 3-D seismic at Vermilion.
Subsequent to the quarter end Athlone has completed the following:
- Drilled two new wells at Lloydminster which are awaiting completion; and
- Tied in a new gas well in South Lloyd which is currently producing 100 mcf/d. It is currently rate restricted because of facility capacity
Remaining plans for the fourth quarter include the following:
- Completion of the two new wells at Lloydminster
- Drilling of an exploration well at Vermilion
- 3-D seismic at Wildmere
Athlone's main core area and land position is in a heavy oil area from west of Lloydminster to Vermilion, Alberta with heavy oil comprising approximately 80% of production. Athlone now has producing wells on four separate land areas with multiple play types in the Lloydminster area which means the company has the flexibility of evaluating production of new wells prior to the drilling of follow up development locations. The company has built up an inventory of 15 to 25 drilling locations which will be exploited in 2007.
In west central Alberta Athlone has prepared a farm out package of company lands and has started the process of farming out these prospects to industry partners. The exploration risk is significantly higher in this area compared to Lloydminster and with dry hole costs of $800,000 we believe that it is prudent strategy to mitigate some of the risk. In southern Saskatchewan we are currently working on a development plan with our partner to exploit the land acquired in the second quarter.
The pricing outlook for heavy oil has never been better. Structural changes are occurring in the heavy oil market. A number of projects have been announced to add additional heavy oil refining capacity in the United States. Canadian upgrading projects have also been announced by major companies and a number of independent upgrading projects have also been announced. New export pipeline projects from Canada to the United States have been proposed to meet the additional refining capacity. Light oil is increasingly more difficult and expensive to find therefore this has never been a better time to develop heavy oil.
The term barrels of oil equivalent "boe" may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation. A boe conversion ratio of six thousand cubic feet (6 mcf) to one barrel (1 bbl) is based on an energy equivalency conversion method primarily applicable at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead.

"Gross revenues for the period of approximately $1.4 million are the highest revenue to date. This compares to approximately $550,000 for the period January 1, 2006 to March 31, 2006."
ATH kommt jetzt richtig ins Verdienen. Die Insider kaufen ja seid Monaten.
