(Infocast News) Legend`s (0992) share price was volatile today with a jump of 31.64% in the morning but narrowed to 9.96% in the afternoon. If calculated at today`s closing price, its market capitilisation reaches $89.46 billion, exceeding the purple chip Citic Pacific (0267) to become the ninth highest market-valued company.
The company`s share price has set several new peaks lately leading to a prediction that Legend will soon become a HSI constituent stock. It is also said that Richard Li, Chairman of PCCW (1186), thinks that Legend`s share price should be calucated in market capitalization to sales ratio (P/Sales) instead of P/E ratio. Some analysts even predict that the company`s share price will reach USD 100 after 10 years.
With reference to Hikari Tsushin`s P/Sales ratio of 50X, Legend`s market value should be 10X to its present value. By end-March 99, the company`s turnover was $11.633 billion, calculated in the ratio of 50X, its market capitalisation should have been $581.65 billion, representing $323 per share.
However, an analyst queries the reliability of the said calculation and the truth in the rumour since Legend and Hikari Tsushin`s businesses are different in nature. Thus same calculation method cannot be applied to both companies.
Today, Legend`s share price rocketed to near $60 each with its market value reaching $107.1 billion and dropped later, closed up $4.5 or 9.96% to $49.7 with a market value of $89.46 billion.
The company suggests a subdivision of 1 share into 4 subdivided shares. After a calcuation based on today`s close, each share will be valued to $12.425 which is higher than that of Founder (0418) and Stone Electronic (0409).
