Rambus verklagt Technologiepartner Hitachi wegen Patent-Verletzungen
TOKIO (dpa-AFX) -

New DRAM Alliance notes: Late in 1999, Intel, along with the major manufacturers who produce close to 80 % of all DRAM, agreed to work together on establishing an open standard for the next generation of DRAM. This new standard is estimated to go into production in 2003. While we feel it is really too soon to duscuss anything about the new DRAM alliance, we feel it ist important to point out the very significant element: Currently, only DRAM manufacturers have been asked to join the Alliance. They have not asked designers yet, and when they do, they may very well ask Rambus, Also, the Alliance has repeated that they would prefer not to pay a royalty for the next generation of DRAM. While that sounds iminous to Rambus, it is not a definite, and the group is not firm on this position. There have been a number of attempts to corral the industry into working together on DRAM, and to create an industry standard in the past, and most have failed. While circumstances today ale different, the intentions are the same. Finally, the new DRAM alliance was scheduled to introduce a new DRAM in 2003. Since this initial announcement, one of the members of the group, has stated that 2003 is an aggressive estimate for the new technology.
