MMC Norilsk Nickel reported revenue of US$1.63 billion for the first half of 2005 as compared to US$1.583 billion for the same period a year ago. EBITDA came to US$772 million.

Net operational money flow for the first half of the current year totaled US$600 million.

16.08.2005Board of Directors of MMC Norilsk Nickel calls EGM to vote on the spin off of gold mining assets

At its meeting on August 11th, 2005, the Board of Directors of MMC Norilsk Nickel (“Company”, “Norilsk”) made unanimous decision to call an extraordinary general meeting of Norilsk shareholders (the “EGM”) to be held on September 30th, 2005, to vote on the reorganization of the Company.

The reorganization of the Company involves a spin off by MMC Norilsk Nickel of all of the shares of ZAO “Polyus” together with a cash contribution in the amount of 10 billion rubles to a newly formed OJSC “Polyus Gold” (“Polyus Gold”) established by Norilsk and the issuance of shares in Polyus Gold to the shareholders of MMC Norilsk Nickel on proportional basis .

The Board of Directors defined 11th of August 2005 as the record date for an extraordinary general meeting of Norilsk shareholders to vote on the reorganization of the Company and recommended to the shareholders to approve the transaction.

All information materials to the EGM will be available for shareholders in Registrar office – ZAO “National Registration Company” as well as published on Norilsk web site www.nornik.ru, starting from August 17th, 2005.

MMC Norilsk Nickel will hold a press conference for journalists regarding the reorganization of the Company. The press conference will take place at Gubernatorsky café (Moscow, Voznesensky per., 22) at 2 p.m. Moscow time on August 17th, 2005. For registration please contact our press service.

JSC MMC Norilsk Nickel announced net income of 24,9 billion rubles for the first half of 2005, up 7.6 percent from the same period last year. Company`s for an accounting period increased by 14.5 percent to reach 82,56 billion rubles.

Company`s gross profit rose 33 percent to come to 53,89 billion rubles. The sales profit rose 43 percent up to 48,48 billion rubles, pretax proceeds amounted to 35 billion rubles, up 9.3 percent.

Norilsk Rating Raised To BB+

Russian metals producing giant Norilsk Nickel’s press service announced that Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services improved Norilsk Nickel’s credit rating up to BB++ from BB. The forecast of the rating alteration is “stable”.

The rating reflects the leading position of Norilsk in the world markets of nickel, palladium, platinum and copper, as well as the unique resources basis and stable financial situation in the company, Standard & Poor’s said in its report.
