ILEX Initiates Phase I Trial of Vitamin D3 Analog

SAN ANTONIO, March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- ILEX(TM) Oncology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ILXO) today announced the initiation of a second Phase I trial of its vitamin D3 analog, ILX23-7553. The clinical trial at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute complements an existing study of the investigational agent at the University of New Jersey and will evaluate the analog`s optimum dosage, safety and potential to treat patients with a variety of refractory solid tumors.

This Phase I trial, with a projected enrollment of up to 35 patients, is designed to demonstrate the safety of ILX23-7553 as both a single agent and in combination with dexamethasone. In preclinical models of breast, colon, prostate and T-leukemia cell lines, the analog has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and induce cell differentiation, causing cancer cells to stop dividing and established tumors to shrink.

At therapeutic concentrations in prior preclinical studies, the investigational drug has not shown significant mobilization of calcium (hypercalcemia), the dose limiting toxicity evident in other analogs of vitamin D3.

"Because of this compound`s oral administration and high tolerability, we believe that ILX23-7553 has the potential to be both a chemotherapeutic and a chemopreventive agent," said Richard L. Love, ILEX president and chief executive officer.

ich denke mal, das wir das als überaus positiv einschätzen sollten! ich glaube, das die aktie ilex eine blendende entwicklung vor sich hat, wenn die medikamente gegen die verschiedenen krebsarten auf den markt kommen werden! naja, ich will ja keine utopischen einschätzungen abgeben, doch es wird durchaus ein bißchen geld mit dieser aktie zu verdienen sein! wie mans nimmt!

keine panik bei ilex, schaut euch die verfassung anderer biotechwerte
an und ihr werdet erkennen, dass sich unser wert gut gehalten hat und
auf diesem nivau interessant erscheint, viel bzw. alles hängt im moment von der erfolgreichen medikamenteneinführung von campath.
ihr solltet ruhe bewahren und einfach abwarten.

ist doch wohl ein schnäppchen. und die pipeline
ist prall efüllt.

oder hat ilex NEBEN millennium noch was mit campath zu tun?

Ilex hat CAMPATH lizensiert und besitzt das alleonvermarktungsrecht für 7 Jahre. In Japan und Südostasien vermarkten sie selbst. Das recht im rest der Welt zu vermarkten verkaufen sie an Schering.
