MONSTER-DEMAND für AMD CPUs?

"ThinkEquity's Eric Ross and Eddie Cheung are doing it again!
This time, on AMD. They note they have heard from several sources
that orders for AMD processors are well beyond its fab capacity.
Even with Fab 36 ramping fast (and 65nm expected in volumes in
January), and Fab 30 and Chartered's Fab 7 ramping, they believe
AMD will not be in a position to ship to its demand. Despite a
challenging PC environment, they believe AMD has orders beyond its
capacity for 2H06 and into 2007. Distributors have been on
allocation since mid-August.

Demand for AMD processors is spectacular. The firm has heard AMD is
gaining share at every major PC and server maker. Several contacts
inside major PC OEMs have indicated if AMD had even more capacity,
they would transition more share to AMD.

Several of firm's sources say that if distributors are not a key
provider to the big PC makers, they have been essentially locked
out from any mid- and high-end processors. Low-end processors can
still be found, but inventories are tight. This is a 180-degree
change from three months ago when inventories were building from
already high levels.

With the virtually 100% utilization at AMD's internal facilities,
gross and operating margins for the company should reach all-time
highs. The firm can not imagine how AMD would consider not
maximizing capacity utilized at CHRT. They also believe AMD's
pricing is much stronger than investors are expecting.

According to the firm all this will likely make their 2007
estimates (already the high on the Street) appear conservative. In
their opinion, any recent weakness in the AMD shares should be
considered a possible buying opportunity given AMD's share gains
and the potential for more wins with other OEMs. Reiterates Buy
rating and $30 price target."

Nur das mit dem HOHEN AMD Inventory kann ja wohl so nicht ganz stimmen.

Was erwartest Du
Dafür gibts haufenweis Intel-Werbung auf der Page. Und diese ist zumindest ziemlich gut gemacht.

Schon komisch: diese ganzen Vorab- und Vorvorab-Tests erscheinen besonders auf Anandtech und thg, genau die zwei Pages die geradezu übervoll von Intel-Werbung sind...

Das benötigte Ergebnis des "Tests" stande vermutlich schon vor dem "Test" fest. Die schwierige Aufgabe lag wohl eher darin, dem Geforderten möglichst nahe zu kommen.

Der "Test" bei THG ist doch mal wieder typisch. Keine Erklärungen warum gerade diese Benchmarks ausgewählt wurden, keine Erklärung warum mit den gewählten Einstellungen, keine Erklärung was man zu messen erwartet, keine Erklärung der Ergebnisse. Das darf ich mir als Leser alles selber ausdenken.

Ich frage mich wirklich, was da am Quadcore-Systeme "amazing" gewesen sein soll, wenn man in den meisten Fällen den Unterschied zwischen den normalen Conroes und den Quadcores anscheinende gar nicht feststellen konnte, außer bei den synthetischen Benchmarks?
Davon abgesehen gibt es schon lange Systeme mit vier Cores, beispielsweise die vielen Opteorn-Workstations mit zwei Sockets. Also was war denn da bitte amazing?

Geradezu lächerlich die Aussage:
"No matter how many applications you run at the same time, the system reacts to user commands quickly."
Sowas schaffen wohl selbst die meisten Uralt-SC-Systeme, auf "User commands" "quickly" zu reagieren.

Und dieser Satz erübrigt jeden Kommentar, den hat man vermutlich nur für Intel geschrieben:

Selten hab ich so viel so raffiniert gemachte Werbung von Intel auf nur einer Page gesehen

Sieht man sich den "Test" an, so drängt sich mir geradzu der Gedanke auf, dass dieser Bericht ganz nach Intels Wunsch angefertigt sein könnte. Schon alleine die Tatsache, dass hier tomshardware die "Ehre" bekommt, als erster über diesen Kentsfield so eine ausführliche (15pages!) Story schreiben zu dürfen...

Von 34 ausgesuchten Benchmarks profitiert der Kentsfield 14 mal überhaupt nicht (insbesondere bei Games!), neun mal nur minimal und rund 11mal ordentlich. Jedoch wirklich gut scheint er nur bei den synthetischen Benchmarks zu skalieren. Und 10 dieser Benchmarks sind eben von dieser Art: Sisoft-Sandra-2007, PC-Mark05, 3D-Mark-06.

In der "Conlusion" schreibt er folgendes:
"...Compared with the already not-too-shabby Intel Core 2 Duo/Extreme, the Core 2 Quadro can give performance a mighty tweak - but only for specific applications. In the best-case scenario, performance can even be doubled. However, this depends on the particular program. Software makers have yet to initiate the needed optimizations for multiple physical CPU units. The table below lists a hodgepodge of applications that benefit from four cores right away..."

ABER dann:
Dann kommt noch eine "Editor´s Opinion", und diese liest sich wohl sehr, als ob man diese Sätze extra für Intel geschrieben hat, damit Intel diese später zitieren kann, denn diese verzerren das Beobachtete wohl sehr:

"...For me, working with one of the first quad core systems was amazing. No matter how many applications you run at the same time, the system reacts to user commands quickly. Some applications require half the time to finish tasks. To me, it's like being catapulted a year into the future and is unlike the past few years when computing power increased only marginally. Intel pumped out 30% more performance with Core 2 Duo and will double that again with Core 2 Quadro soon..."

Ich bin ja schon gespann, wann und wo wir diese Worte irgendwo von Intel in zitierter Form lesen "dürfen".
