PCCW (1186) 8 new investments, including acquiring sohu.com 4.65%
(Infocast News) Pacific Century CyberWorks (1186) (PCCW) yesterday announced 8 new investment items of its subsidiary CyberWorks
Venture (CWV) in the past 3 months. PCCW launched a total of 42 investment items in the past 8 months.
It is rumoured that PCCW is in negotiation about the acquisition the website of Hong Kong Commercial Radio but details have not been
disclosed. One of the 8 investment items is an acquisition of 4.65% of sohu.com, a PRC website which will get listed in US Nasdaq, yet the
investment amoount has not been unveiled.
Other 7 investment items are an US$3 million investment in Beatnik, Inc, a company engaged in an updating of music and sound to online
vocing technology; an investment in a US broadband communications company Dotcast, Inc; an increase in shareholding of Outblaze to
46%; an acquisition of some stake of Palm, Inc; an acquisition of 5% of an Indian biggest webportal Rediff; an investment in Taste For
Living; and an acquisition of 22.4% of a e-commerce platform 3 Fusion. PCCW`s another subsidiary PCC has also acquired 49% of Data
Access, an Indian internet service provider.
Richard Li, Chairman of PCCW, said that the investment items facilitate the development of internet in Asia and of internet economy. They
also help seeking the best content and technology for NOW service, which is to be launched this year, which matches with the strategies of
PCC. PCCW will carry on investing in Asia for more development opportunities.
