Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) announced today the expansion of its European oilseed processing capabilities with the acquisition of ViaChem Group’s oilseed processing assets in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
This facility, in the Eastern part of the Czech Republic, consists of an oilseed crushing, refining and biodiesel plant that produces oil and meal for the food, feed and energy markets.
”This acquisition will allow ADM to expand further its leadership position in agricultural processing in Europe and strengthen our softseed processing activities in this region,” said Brent Fenton, managing director, ADM Europe. ”This new site will support ADM’s expansion of its rapeseed and sunseed origination network in Central Europe. In line with ADM’s strategy to expand the size and global reach of our core model, this acquisition increases the Company’s presence in the growing Eastern European market

Canadian firm Burcon has received a notice of allowance from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its Puratein canola protein isolate.
Canola is most commonly used as a cooking oil or to make salad dressing, but Burcon has taken its isolates to make emulsifiers and binding systems in food products. The patent, which was first filed more than six years ago in April 2003, covers the composition of the dominant protein in Puratein, which can be used as an emulsifier in a range of applications including sauces, baked goods, meat substitutes, and protein bars. Puratein is said to be useful for emulsification, gel formation, thickening, formation of heat-stable foams, and water- and ingredient-binding.
Burcon said that this patent allowance is particularly important as it is a ‘composition of matter’ patent – the first that Burcon has been granted. This means that the patent covers the composition of the protein isolate itself, rather than only the process by which it is attained.
When the company was notified on Tuesday, Burcon’s president and chief operating officer Johann Tergesen said: “Today’s notice of allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office is particularly encouraging as it is Burcon’s first composition of matter patent application to have been allowed. Puratein is an excellent emulsifier that can form opaque heat-induced gels and as such it can be used to replace egg protein in certain applications.”

The company says it is building a portfolio of patents, including for protein extraction processes that it believes are not commercially viable, in order to “gain as much protection in the protein extraction and purification space as possible”. So far, it has 92 patents in various countries, including eight in the US. It has an additional 200 patents pending, including 70 in the US.

Burcon announced self-affirmed GRAS – generally recognized as safe – for its Puratein and Supertein protein isolates in October 2007, after review of evidence by a panel of experts from fields including food safety, toxicology, allergies and pediatric medicine.
At that time, the company stated its intention to achieve FDA GRAS notification. The ultimate goal of Burcon and its partner ADM is to have the two products join the soy, dairy and egg protein ingredient market, for use in foods, nutritional supplements and personal care products.

trotz allem, es sieht gut aus bisher. mal schau´n, wie weit wir diesmal über die 7er marke kommen (bid/ask bei 7,10/7,20 cad).
die vorzeichen der us/ca- indizes sind nicht berauschend heute. auch bei burcon bisher kein handel.
aber - wir befinden uns jetzt in q3 des geschäftsjahres. dem quartal, wo wir die news bekommen, auf die wir solange gewartet haben. ich rechne eigentlich tagtäglich mit der mitteilung hinsichtlich der veröffentlichung des toxikolog. gutachtens für supertein und der darauf folgenden umgehenden gras-beantragung für die rapsproteine bei der fda.
wenn das so kommt, rechne ich fest damit, dass adm als partner für den anlagenbau (f.d. rapsproteine) an bord bleibt, so dass wir imo dann auch eine meldung dazu erwarten können.
und für clarisoy erwarte ich die fertigstellung der machbarkeitsstudie ebenfalls bis ende diesen, anfang nächsten monats, so dass wir dann auch dort sehen, welche vermarktung mit wem in welcher art betrieben wird.
mit anderen worten: wir können uns auf die nächsten tage und wochen freuen.

ist aber auch noch nicht gesagt, dass wir dauerhaft über 7 cad bleiben. lass nochmal 2-3 tage ins land gehen - wenn wir dann nördlich dieser marke liegen, können wir wieder in richtung 8 cad denken.

Haben all die Jahre geforscht und alle halbwegs funktionierenden Methoden patentieren lassen. Das wird natürlich gekostet haben, zahlt sich langfristig dann aber auch erheblich aus. Und hält die Konkurrenz fern!
Das bringt uns natürlich einen unerwarteten Zusatznutzen! Andere arbeiten quasi umsonst für uns mit!
Deswegen haben die Grossen natürlich auch zugegriffen! Und wir sind dabei!
