State Department report allows Nord Stream 2 pipeline to proceed for now
Feb. 22, 2021 10:55 PM
The Biden administration is signaling it will stand down in the years-long effort to stop Russia from finishing the controversial Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline to Germany, as the U.S. seeks to repair relations with Europe.
The latest evidence that President Biden would rather move on follows the State Department's report to Congress Friday that did not name any new companies as targets for sanctions, allowing work on the pipeline to continue unabated for now.
The report was expected to provide a list of companies involved in pipeline construction and thus subject to U.S. sanctions, but the U.S. instead named two entities previously sanctioned by the Trump administration - the main pipe-laying vessel and its owner - along with 18 companies, mostly insurers, that already have left or were leaving the project.
Nord Stream 2 is led by Russian state energy company Gazprom (OTCPK:OGZPY),with European partners Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B), BASF's (OTCQX:BASFY) Wintershall, Uniper (OTC:UNPPY), OMV (OTCPK:OMVJF) and Engie (OTCPK:ENGIY).
The pipeline is more than 90% completed, with ~100 miles remaining, as the sanctioned vessel has been laying down pipe in the German Exclusive Economic Zone.

Da man sauber ins Jahre 2021 startet.

Crescent Point to buy Shell's Alberta assets in C$900M deal
Crescent Point Energy (NYSE:CPG) +23.9% post-market after agreeing to acquire Royal Dutch Shell's (RDS.A, RDS.B) Kaybob Duvernay assets in Alberta for C$900M in cash and stock.
Crescent Point says the deal marks a strategic entry into a premier and established liquids rich play with greater than 10 years of high-return, low risk drilling inventory, and will strengthen expected 2021 excess cash flow generation to $375M-$600M at $50-$60/bbl WTI.
The acquisition will add ~30K boe/day of production (57% condensate, 8% natural gas liquids, 35% shale gas).
Upon closing, Shell will own 8.6% of Crescent Point's common shares.
Crescent Point also revises FY 2021 guidance, assuming the deal closes in April, to includes average production of 132K-136K boe/day and development capex of $575M-$625M.

Big Freeze in Texas Is Becoming a Global Oil Market Crisis
Brent crude surged to within 25 cents of $65 a barrel on Wednesday, a level not seen since last January. Ten months ago it slumped below $16 because of a demand shock caused by Covid-19.
“The market is turning into a wild animal for OPEC+ to control,” said Gary Ross, a veteran oil consultant turned hedge fund manager at Black Gold Investors LLC. “The weather is having an unbelievable impact on global supply and demand.”
