Shell to sharply boost dividend in new CEO plan

Shell will ramp up dividends and share buybacks while keeping oil output steady into 2030 as part of CEO Wael Sawan's efforts to regain investor confidence that wavered over its energy transition plan.

In a new financial framework announced on Wednesday, Shell said it will increase overall shareholder distribution to 30% to 40% of cash flow from operations, up from a 20% to 30% rate.

That includes a 15% dividend boost and an increase in the rate of its share buyback programme starting in the second quarter to $5 billion from $4 billion in recent quarters.

Capital spending will be reduced to a range of $22 billion to $25 billion per year for 2024 and 2025, compared with a planned $23 billion to $27 billion in 2023, Shell said.

"We are investing to provide the secure energy customers need today and for a long time to come, while transforming Shell to win in a low-carbon future," Sawan said in a statement.

"Performance, discipline, and simplification will be our guiding principles."

Shell reiterated its target to become a net-zero emissions company by 2050.

The group said it will keep its oil production steady to 2030 and will grow its natural gas business to defend its position as the world's biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) player.

Noch nicht mitbekommen: das Thema "wokeness" kommt aus den USA!

Im übrigen glaube ich nicht, dass der Grad der "wokeness" eines Landes, die Nutzung gegenderter Sprachformen etc. irgendeinen Investmentvor- oder Nachteil bedingt. Falls doch, empfehle ich ggw. Investments in Russland, in Uganda, in Afghanistan und weiteren wirtschaftlich so erfolgreichen Kandidaten, die Sie sicher im Internet leicht recherchieren können.

Was in den USA ein Spleen einiger Phantasten ist, wird in D und Brüssel zum Kult erhoben, und die anderen Vorschläge sind doch nicht den Strom wert, mit dem er geschrieben wurde, das wissen wir beide. Es laufen doch nicht umsonst die Unternehmen aus Deutschland und der EU davon und investieren überall in D, besonders in China und anderen "progressiven" Staaten rund um die Welt! (Achtung Ironie!)

Die Umstrukturierung im Vorstand von Shell deuten doch auch in meine angedeutete Richtung und die letzten Meldungen hier lassen auf dasselbe schließen: Man hat die Schnauze voll von der Großen Transformation.
Ich vermute, dass es nach der Sommerpause wieder deutlich aufwärts geht mit Shell.

Shell pivots back to oil to win over investors

Shell will keep oil output steady or slightly higher into 2030 as part of CEO Wael Sawan's efforts to regain investor confidence as the energy giant wrestles with poor returns from renewables while oil and gas profits are booming, company sources said.

Sawan will announce at an investor event next week the scrapping of a target to reduce oil output by 1% to 2% per year having already largely reached its goal for production cuts, mainly through selling oil assets such as its U.S. shale business, the three sources said.

Sawan, who took the helm in January with a vow to improve Shell's performance as its shares lag rivals, said oil and gas will remain central to Shell for years to come, insisting that efforts to shift to low-carbon businesses cannot come at the expense of profits.

Britain to waive oil, gas windfall tax if prices fall far enough

With Friday’s changes the windfall tax would fall away, reducing the tax burden to 40%, if average oil and gas prices fall to or below $71.40 a barrel for oil and 0.54 pounds per therm for gas for two consecutive quarters.

Ist mir auch ein bisschen suspekt, ich schiebe das eher auf den Gaspreis, speziell LNG, das derzeit relativ günstig zu bekommen ist. Zudem bricht ja europaweit aktuell die Weirtschaft weg, die Deflation ist meiner Meinung gar nicht mehr zu vermeiden, die Rezession in D wird sich verstärken.
Inwieweit sich das auf die Gewinne von Shell durchschlagen wird, wird man sehen.

Naja, das mag ich ja bezweifeln. Sicher ist für den Valuewert Shell UK deutlich besser als Den Haag.

Aber wenn es den Briten doch wieder einfallen sollte, dass man zur EU will, dann sollten besagte beide Unternehmen ihre Zelte in London abbrechen und in die USA auswandern! UK ist immer noch zu nah an der woken EU dran!

Tanzania to review approval of $42 bln LNG project in June

DAR ES SALAAM, May 31 (Reuters) - Tanzania's government said on Wednesday it had completed negotiations with the investors of its $42 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, with the agreements set to be reviewed for approval next month.

Energy minister January Makamba said the agreements for the approval of the long-delayed project - aimed at unlocking the country's vast but remote offshore gas resources - would be presented to the government's cabinet before they are signed.

While Makamba did not provide a time frame in his address to parliament, the ministry of energy's budget speech for 2023/24 published on its website showed the LNG investors and the government are expected to sign an amended production sharing agreement in June.

"The $42 billion project will change the image and the face of our economy," Makamba said, adding the government would enact a special law to monitor the project.

Earlier this month, Equinor, Shell and Exxon Mobil said they had agreed a deal with the east African country for the development of an LNG export terminal.
