STOCKHOLM (AFX) There are strong indications that Kenya is about to change his mind about the capital gains tax on 30-37.5 percent of the oil sector, which was proposed last fall.
It says Africa Oil's CEO in a comment Direkt on Thursday via email apropos of Tuesday's article in the Kenyan affärstidnigen Business Daily Africa where a bank flagged for tax could be stopped.
"This is one of several articles that show the growing pressures that are piling up in Kenya to cancel or reduce the tax. All levels of government opposes Now this tax. The current low oil prices and the Kenyan government's desire to keep the auction round about the prospect ring also helps to advance its cause. The main issues are the timing and final scope, "writes Keith Hill.
Is it even stronger indications than in late November?
"I think the movement is growing in strength. I still believe that the tax will be reduced, not removed completely," he writes on.
Africa Oil's president said late last month for Direct to the exploration company lobbied intensively for the reduced tax rate and that there were good chances for success in this area. Subsequently, the North Sea oil has fallen from just below $ 80 a barrel to temporarily noted for 60 dollars.
Oil Operators in the East African country, including Lundin company, has previously said they could live with a rate of 10-15 percent.

Capital Gains Tax KENYA MAY BE STOPPED IN ACCORDANCE WITH BANK (Direct)
2014-12-18 11:16
STOCKHOLM (AFX) The Kenyan capital gains tax proposal in the oil sector can be withdrawn in light of the sharp fall in oil prices.
It says the British big bank Standard Chartered according to an article published on Tuesday night in the Kenyan business magazine Business Daily Africa.
Capital gains tax may hinder exploration and development in the sector, says the bank's African chief analyst Razia Khan.
"Given the temporary lower oil prices and the likelihood of reductions in exploration expenditures in the short term, the Kenyan Ministry of Finance need to change the perception of the plans to introduce a new capital gains tax on the sale of oil resources," said Razia Khan.
Bank studies show that the smaller oil companies would probably not have sufficient resources to develop its oil and gas resources.
The proposed capital gains tax of between 30-37.5 percent, which is supposed to be implemented from January 1 next year, it was considered that unexpectedly high of assessors and has weighed on the valuation of Africa Oil in the fall.
