Ghana plans to process its first lithium locally

Ghana plans to process its first lithium locally to ensure it maximizes its revenue from the metal, a key component of electric vehicle batteries, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Jinapor said.

“We will not export our green minerals in their raw form,” Jinapor said on the sidelines of the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa forum in Morocco on Wednesday.

“At the very least, we must participate at some level of the value chain” even if producing EVs may not be realistic in the short term, he said.

Australian miner Atlantic Lithium expects to start production at Ghana’s first lithium mine in the second half of 2024, and the government is developing consistent policies on green minerals to attract investors, according to Jinapor.

Ghana mined 116 tons of gold in 2022, restoring it to its place as Africa’s top producer, and new investments may make that lead “unassailable,” he said.

Der Artikel ist ein Jahr alt, dürfte nichts an Brisanz verloren haben. Die betroffene Bevölkerung wehrt sich weiter gegen Piedmonts Lithium Mine. Es scheint so als würde die Gemeinde trotz der Bürgerproteste von Piedmont überzeugt zu sein. Zuletzt wurden 147 Acres Grundstücke des Minengebietes an Piedmont verkauft.

In der Payback Phase von 3,5 Jahren wird das volle EBITA noch nicht erreicht. Wie sich Pay Back auswirkt lässt sich von heute aus nicht feststellen.
Nach Payback dürften weitere kleine Posten aus dem EBITA bezahlt werden, deswegen ziehe ich 10% ab.
$459Mio - 10% = $413,1Mio mal dem angenommenen KGV von 15 entspricht das einer MK von ca $6,2B
Um die Berechnung des gesamten Kurshubs zu erleichtern setze ich die MK vom 20.04.2023 bei AUD1.63B x 0,67512899 = USD1,1B ein. Das ermöglicht es für den Kursgesamthub beide Projekte Tennessee DFS und Carolina DFS einfach zu addieren.

Der Kurshub Carolina DFS zu Heute beträgt 6,2 / 1,1 = 5,64 Faktor, bei Vollproduktion nach Payback, etwa ab 2031/32
Der Kurshub Tennessee DFS zu Heute beträgt 5,076 / 1,1 = 4,61 Faktor, bei Vollproduktion nach Payback, etwa ab 2028/29

Das ergibt einen Gesamtkurshub nach 2031/32 von 4,61 + 5,64 = 10,25 und die MK dürfte auf 1,1Mrd x 10,25 = $11,275Mrd steigen.

Für die Carolina DFS wurde ein Base Case LiOH (Batterie Grade) Verkauf-Preis von 18,000$/t und für Tennessee DFS Base Case 26,000$/t angenommen.

Der aktuelle LiOH (Batterie Grade) Preis am 27.04.2023 steht bei 27080$/t, "noch" mit leicht abnehmender Tendenz. Da die LCE Preise in allen Qualitäten den Boden auszubilden, sollte LiOH keinen großen Rücklauf mehr erfahren. So kann man für die Tennessee DFS und natürlich auch für die spätere Carolina DFSdavon ausgehen, dass sich der LiOH Preis wieder erholt und der Base Case nicht nach unten gebrochen wird. Falls doch, dann auf keinen Fall nachhaltig.

Nach Ende 2025 steigen die Prognosen zu Angebot und Nachfrage der Resourcen und für den LiOH Markt an. Auch wenn das den LiOH Preis nicht mehr in die Höhen des Herbst 2022 treiben wird, ist davon auszugehen, dass mit steigenden Preisen der Kurshub ebenfalls steigen wird. Da die Tennessee DFS näher an der Gegenwart liegt, macht es mehr Sinn diese Senstives zu betrachten. NPV after Tax Sensitive Tennessee DFS:

Piedmont’s Tennessee lithium hydroxide plant could double US output

Piedmont Lithium (NASDAQ: PLL; ASX: PLL) says its proposed $600 million lithium hydroxide plant in Tennessee would pay for itself in less than three years.

The project has an after-tax net present value of $2.5 billion at an 8% discount rate, an internal rate of return of 32% and a payback period of 2.8 years, according to a feasibility study released on Thursday. The study assumes fixed prices of $26,000 per tonne of lithium hydroxide and $1,600 per tonne of spodumene concentrate over the project’s 30-year life.
