What Ponsin didn’t know was that Tesla employees had been instructed to thwart any customers complaining about poor driving range from bringing their vehicles in for service. Last summer, the company quietly created a “Diversion Team” in Las Vegas to cancel as many range-related appointments as possible.
The Austin, Texas-based electric carmaker deployed the team because its service centers were inundated with appointments from owners who had expected better performance based on the company’s advertised estimates and the projections displayed by the in-dash range meters of the cars themselves, according to several people familiar with the matter.
Inside the Nevada team’s office, some employees celebrated canceling service appointments by putting their phones on mute and striking a metal xylophone, triggering applause from coworkers who sometimes stood on desks. The team often closed hundreds of cases a week and staffers were tracked on their average number of diverted appointments per day.
Managers told the employees that they were saving Tesla about $1,000 for every canceled appointment, the people said. Another goal was to ease the pressure on service centers, some of which had long waits for appointments.

Tesla isn’t the only automaker with cars that don’t regularly achieve their advertised ranges.
One of the experts, Gregory Pannone, co-authored a study of 21 different brands of electric vehicles, published in April by SAE International, an engineering organization. The research found that, on average, the cars fell short of their advertised ranges by 12.5% in highway driving.
The study did not name the brands tested, but Pannone told Reuters that three Tesla models posted the worst performance, falling short of their advertised ranges by an average of 26%.

In a recent press release highlighting safety defects in Tesla's Full Self-Driving software, safety advocacy group The Dawn Project linked to a page on the Tesla Model 3 manual on Tesla.com which described the software and listed its many limitations and safety defects.
Within four hours of the press release being published on over 400 news websites Tesla deleted the page from its website. The URL hyperlinked in the press release now returns a 404-error page. However, the page is saved on Wayback Machine here --> https://web.archive.org/web/20230721203612/https:/www.tesla.…
Tesla then published a new page in the Tesla Model 3's online manual for Full Self-Driving software, which no longer listed the limitations but instead linked to a new web page listing the limitations of Full Self-Driving and many other Tesla features such as Smart Summon.
Tesla also removed this damaging web page from the instruction manuals of all its current car models: the S; the 3; the X; and the Y.

"Because every country contains unique infrastructure, driving behaviors, and traffic patterns that Full Self-Driving (Beta) must adapt to over time, it is essential for drivers using Full Self-Driving (Beta) in newly eligible countries to be extra attentive and overly cautious. You must be ready to take over safely at any time."
...die ja suggeriert, daß wenn der "Full Self-Driving (Beta)" nur genügend Zeit gegeben wird, sie überall immer besser wird.

1/ "potenziell hohe Regressforderungen"
2/ "das politische Reputationsrisiko, von Musk als Innovationsfeind gebrandmarkt zu werden"
b/ EM hat mit dem Autopilot die Lücke gefüllt, die Google aus Sicherheitsbedenken, zumindest unter eigenem Namen -- und auch namens "Autopilot" ab 2013 und zunächst nur für Highway -- hinterließ, weil eben der Google-Autopilot bei der Tochter Waymo landete, allerdings mit einem fundamental anderen Ansatz, nämlich von Haus aus auf "voll-autonome Robocars"/MM zu setzen.
Schon Google hat die Mensch-Maschine-Problematik (wer überwacht wen?) nicht lösen können und Tesla löst sie bis heute einfach so, daß es die Verantwortung grundsätzlich auf den menschlichen Fahrer abwälzt.
c/ Kalifornien: zum Autopilot/FSD als "Level-2-System" offiziell dort: das hat laut MM politische Gründe, nicht technologische:
• als Level-2-System ist es ein nicht-autonomes System und unterliegt damit nicht den dann gültigen gesetzlichen Anforderungen wie:
-- entsprechende Vorab-Genehmigungen
-- alle Crash's müssen gemeldet werden
-- alle Eingriffe des Testfahrers müssen gemeldet werden
=> ein Tesla-Fahrzeug, das in Kalifornien offiziell als autonomes Fahrzeug unterwegs wäre, dürfte nur von entsprechend geschulten Test-Fahrern bedient werden
