Was ich mich frage:

80$...also glatte Halbierung....verlockend, oder !?!?!?!

Warum? Wer hat Infos?

Nuance Shares Rise; No Fresh News in
Sight
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of voice-recognition software maker
Nuance Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:NUAN - news) rose strongly on
Thursday as the company extended its recovery from life lows following
an earnings warning in April.
Softer demand for Nuance`s products, which allow the user of a cellular
phone to access e-mail with just a voice command, was to blame for the
company`s disappointing first-quarter results and is likely to hurt the
second quarter as well, management has said.
Nuance shares were up $1.34, or 7.3 percent, to $19.64 in afternoon Nasdaq trade. The shares fell to a
life low of $8.86 in mid-April after the company warned of wider-than-expected losses for the second
quarter. Since then, the shares have more than doubled in price.
Ron Croen, Nuance`s president and chief executive officer, declined to comment on recent activity in the
stock.
But some analysts said a Nuance meeting with current and potential customers in San Diego this week,
where the company introduced some new products, could have helped to strengthen the view that there
is still big potential for voice-recognition software.
``I think people realized that we are not part of the dot-com phenomena, that this is a technology in early
stages of evolution with growth in front of us,`` Croen added.
He would not say whether the company might be in a position to revise upward its earnings guidance.
When it reported first-quarter results on April 19, Nuance said it expected pro forma losses of 29 to 35
cents a share for the second quarter.
Analysts, on average, expect Nuance to post a loss of 34 cents per share in the quarter, with estimates
ranging from a loss of 31 cents to a loss of 38 cents, according to research firm Thomson Financial/First
Call.
Year-to-date, shares of Nuance has outperformed those of rival SpeechWorks International Inc.
(Nasdaq:SPWX - news) by about 30 percent.

Nuance Speech Recognition Software Powers Cisco Systems` Personal Assistant Application
New Offering Employs a Voice Interface to Simplify Business Communications
MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 2001--Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN - news), the leader in Voice Web software, today announced that Cisco Systems has incorporated Nuance`s industry-leading speech recognition and voice authentication software into Personal Assistant, an IP-based telephony application that is part of the AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data) product family.
The Nuance-powered Cisco Personal Assistant, developed using Nuance SpeechObjects(TM), is raising the bar for productivity by enabling users to conduct a variety of tasks using simple voice commands, rather than a telephone keypad. Users can utilize the speech interface to dial by voice, manage conference calls from any telephone, retrieve, reply to, record, skip and delete messages, and forward calls to any location, alternatively applying rules such as time-of-day, caller identification and meeting schedules at the same time.
``The Cisco Personal Assistant is the first voice application resulting from the Cisco-Nuance relationship,`` said Ron Croen, president and CEO, Nuance. ``It`s a great example of how industry-leading telecommunications equipment providers are embracing speech recognition and the Voice Web to differentiate their offerings and deliver new productivity-enhancing tools to their customers.``
An introductory edition of Cisco Personal Assistant and the Cisco Personal Assistant Directory Dialer is currently available with the Cisco CallManager for customer lab trials.

Nuance Speech Recogntion Transforms Telephone Banking for Over Half a Million UBS Customers
MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2001--
Global Financial Services Firm Selects Nuance Software
Based on Broad Language Support, Accuracy and Flexibility
Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN), the leader in Voice Web software, today announced that UBS, the world`s largest global asset manager, is using Nuance natural language speech recognition in its `UBS Voice` application, taking advantage of Nuance`s recently announced support for Swiss-accented German. This voice-enabled application has increased automation rates and offers greater ease-of-use for more than 600,000 customers.
UBS customers are able to check bank balances, make transactions, transfer funds and find out the latest information on Swiss and certain European and American equities just by speaking naturally. UBS Voice eliminates the fixed menu structures of traditional interactive voice response (IVR) systems. With Nuance software, callers can reach all menu points of the application simply by saying the function that they require.
According to UBS, its speech applications are very often the primary interaction with its customers so it`s critical that the voice system understands callers, regardless of accent. With UBS Voice, the company is very focused on creating a better user experience and delivering a more personalised telephone banking service.
UBS is also one of the first companies to deploy a system with a customized `Persona,` where the character, age and tone of voice is designed specifically to suit the company and essentially `brands` the service. Adding persona allows the UBS Voice system to offer a sense of real dialogue with a consistent conversational style, creating a more enjoyable, satisfying user experience. Persona research and design is one of Nuance`s core specialties and is available through its professional services organization.
UBS Voice is currently available in Swiss-accented German, however, French, Italian and English will be implemented soon. To provide UBS Voice users with the greatest flexibility, the application will take advantage of Nuance`s unique Dynamic Language Detection(TM) capabilities. This allows callers using the UBS system to speak in any supported language at any time during the call -- not just at the beginning, like other systems.
Increased service efficiency and cost reduction were key factors in choosing the Nuance system. Robert Morgen, sales director, said, "The UBS Voice system is already reducing hold times and has successfully automated the banking service. By installing Nuance software, UBS is ensuring that customers receive a 24-hour instant service when and where they need it, proving that speech recognition is the solution for companies looking to automate even the most complex transactions and queries."
Nuance`s speech recognition and voice authentication software include the models for Swiss-accented German and are generally available for free for development purposes through the Nuance Developer Network at www.nuance.com. Pricing for system deployment is available upon request.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2001--
Industry-Leading Speech Recognition Software Provider Honored in
Call Center and Telephony, Verification Software
and Best Speech Deployment Categories
Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN, news, msgs), the leader in Voice Web software, announced today that the
company received three Peak Performance Awards from Speech Technology Magazine. The awards
program is designed to recognize the products, services or innovations of speech technology
companies whose efforts have propelled the industry to the forefront of technological innovations in
communications. Nuance received recognition in the categories of Call Center and Telephony,
Verification software and Best Speech Deployment.
"Winners of our Peak Performance Awards represent the `best of the best` in their categories and
are primarily responsible for the great strides that speech technology is making in the global
marketplace," said John Kelly, Speech Technology Magazine`s publisher and editor-in-chief.
Readers` Choice Awards were determined by the worldwide readership of Speech Technology
Magazine.
The Call Center and Telephony award reflects the wide endorsement of Nuance`s industry-leading speech recognition software. It is
deployed throughout the world in call center and telephony applications in a variety of markets including banking, travel and
telecommunications. The software is the industry`s most accurate; it is highly scalable and features support for 25 languages, more than
any other speech recognition software.
Winning in the Verification category, Nuance Verifier 2.0 voice authentication software uses voiceprints to deliver secure telephone
access and personalization without the use of passwords or PINs. The software allows consumers to conduct financial transactions,
place orders and much more using nothing more than the telephone and the power of voice.
Honored in the Best Speech Deployment category, OnStar`s Virtual Advisor is a new service that combines wireless communications,
voice recognition and text-to-speech technology built on General Magic`s magicTalk(TM) voice platform. Virtual Advisor uses Nuance`s
speech recognition software to provide personalized Web-based information, in a completely voice-activated, audio manner. Users can
have hands-free, in-vehicle access to e-mail, stock quotes, weather updates and news content -- including sports, financial, headline,
business and world news.
In addition, Nuance speech recognition software is behind the Editor`s Choice Award for Most Innovative Solution, the ShopTalk
deployment of the Jiffy Lube application. Among the first retail applications written in VoiceXML, it integrates Nuance`s speech
recognition software and runs on Tellme Networks, Inc.`s voice application network to let customers talk directly to a voice server. Once
customers sign up, the Jiffy Lube voice application calls them three months after each oil change. They can tell the server to forward the
message to an e-mail address or connect them to the nearest Jiffy Lube for an appointment.
This industry-wide recognition is a testament to Nuance`s leadership in the speech technology category. Nuance`s customers around the
world are benefiting from the cost savings and improved customer satisfaction that Nuance speech software provides. These benefits
will continue to drive speech technology to a $5 billion worldwide market, according to the Kelsey Group, a New York-based financial
analyst organization.
Peak Performance winners in all categories, as well as nomination and voting guidelines, may be viewed online at

Match in Q3 for Nuance but warning in Q4 (NUAN) By Michael Baron
Nuance (NUAN) is slumping $3.47, or 18.6 percent, to $15.22, after the Menlo Park, Calif., developer of voice-enabled software for the Internet
reported a second-quarter pro forma loss of $11.2 million, or 34 cents a share, wider than its year-ago equivalent loss of $4.5 million, or 16 cents a
share, but in line with Wall Street expectations. Revenue dipped $10 million in the latest three months from $12 million in the year-ago period. "In Q2,
our revenues continued to reflect the overall challenging business climate for technology companies," said Ron Croen, the company`s president and
CEO, in a press release. "Nonetheless, we continued to work on customer prospects, focused marketing programs and channel relationships, as
well as rolling out new products and services. We also reduced expenses by decreasing headcount and implementing other cost control measures."
Looking ahead, Nuance expects to report a pro forma loss of 29 to 35 cents a share on revenue of $9 million to $11 million in the third quarter, a
range that runs wider than the current consensus estimate of analysts for a loss of 30 cents.

Oracle9i Application Server Wireless First to Offer Integrated Voice Support Teams With Industry Leaders General Magic, Intel, Motorola,
Nuance, SpeechWorks, Vail Systems, Verascape and VoiceGenie to Deliver Complete Voice Solutions
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ( http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?860877 ) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL, news,
msgs) today announced comprehensive support for the creation and deployment of voice-enabled services across its technology and
applications software. As part of this initiative, Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) Wireless will become the industry`s first
application server to offer integrated voice support, which will enable mainstream developers to create and deploy applications just once
for use with any interface -- Web, wireless or voice. Voice support will also become a key component of other Oracle(R) software and
services, including Oracle E-Business Suite, OracleMobile Online Studio and Oracle JDeveloper.
Oracle`s broad commitment to support voice-access to information will accelerate the acceptance of voice technology in the corporate
enterprise. To accomplish this, Oracle is working with voice technology leaders General Magic (Nasdaq: GMGC, news, msgs), Intel
(Nasdaq: INTC, news, msgs), Motorola (NYSE: MOT, news, msgs), Nuance (Nasdaq: NUAN, news, msgs), SpeechWorks (Nasdaq: SPWX,
news, msgs), Vail Systems, Verascape and VoiceGenie to offer customers complete voice solutions. In addition, Oracle also announced
today that it has opened a voice technology development center in Chicago dedicated to advancing voice technology and applications in
addition to testing and optimizing third-party voice technology for deployment on Oracle software.
"Our business depends on being able to provide a high-quality experience to our customers
regardless of the device or interface," said Eric Tumperi, CEO of AnyTransaction, a voice application
service provider for catalog companies. "By integrating Oracle9i Application Server Wireless into our
application delivery platform, we easily create and manage applications that extend the reach of
existing business systems to additional channels."
A Complement to Wireless Interfaces
Many companies have discovered that they can significantly improve business processes by enabling
their customers, employees and partners to access key information from wireless devices. But in
certain situations, such as driving a car, using wireless data applications is neither safe nor practical.
In other situations, inputting information via keypad or stylus is not optimal. Voice provides an ideal
complement to wireless data by offering an easy-to-use interface that enables requests to simply be
spoken directly into a handset or hands-free device.
Oracle Gives Applications a Voice
Although voice applications have been deployed by many companies, they have primarily been
developed with proprietary tools and limited to call centers and telecommunications carriers. By
making voice an integral part of Oracle9i Application Server Wireless, an Internet-standards based
application server, voice development and deployment will now be available to developers familiar
with Java, Visual Basic, eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and other popular languages, making voice accessible to most enterprises.
Oracle`s commitment to integrating voice technology across its software and services includes:
-- Oracle9i Application Server Wireless: Future enhancements will enable
applications to be seamlessly accessed from the web, wireless devices,
or by spoken commands through telephones and VoiceXML gateways. Later
this year, the software is scheduled to feature enhanced support for
voice and voice-based notifications while offering the high
performance, security and reliability of Oracle9i Application Server.
-- Oracle E-Business Suite: Future enhancements in Oracle9i Application
Server Wireless are expected to quickly make many key applications
voice-ready, including field sales, field service, business
intelligence and e-commerce.
-- OracleMobile Online Studio: For companies who want to start building
voice applications today, OracleMobile Online Studio gives developers
up to six months of early access to advanced technology. Internet
developers can quickly and easily develop and test voice applications
for deployment as an online service.
-- Oracle JDeveloper: Java and XML developers are able to easily and
quickly build, test, and debug wireless and voice applications within
Oracle JDeveloper`s full-featured integrated development environment
and its built-in Java2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) framework.
-- Oracle Unified Messaging: With a future release of Oracle9i
Application Server with Oracle Unified Messaging, companies will be
able to provide their employees with access to voice mail, e-mail and
faxes from multiple interfaces including Web, wireless and voice.
Oracle is already offering its employees access to voice-enabled email.
-- My Oracle: Many of the applications of My Oracle, the personalized
pages of Oracle.com, will be available from a voice interface.
"By fully integrating voice technology into its standards-based application server and exposing that technology to developers, Oracle is
accelerating the movement of voice beyond the call center and telecom industry and into the corporate enterprise," said William Meisel,
president of TMA Associates, a leading voice consultancy. "This is a clear indication that Oracle understands the voice opportunity and is
looking to drive the market."
"Earlier approaches to voice technology treated voice as a stand-alone access method. However, true value is derived from the ability to
access the same information from any access point, be it Web, wireless or voice," said Denise Lahey, CEO of OracleMobile, the mobile
products and services division of Oracle Corp. "With the combined capabilities of our partners` technologies with Oracle9i Application
Server Wireless, we will be able to deliver the most complete wireless and voice solutions available."
Oracle Aligns with Voice Technology Leaders
Oracle is joining with other industry leaders to provide complete voice solutions to customers in the following areas:
-- Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech (TTS)
Technologies: Oracle9i Application Server Wireless supports ASR and
TTS engines from the two leading vendors, Nuance and SpeechWorks.
-- Voice Gateways and Telephony Platforms: Oracle has optimized voice
gateways and telephony platforms with Oracle9i Application Server
Wireless from leading companies including: General Magic, Intel,
Motorola, Verascape and VoiceGenie.
-- Voice Hosting: For companies that wish to outsource development and
deployment to a third-party vendor, Oracle is working with Vail
Systems.

MENLO PARK, Calif., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Nuance (Nasdaq: NUAN, news, msgs), the leader in Voice Web
software, today announced results for the quarter ended June 30, 2001. Total revenue for the quarter was $10.0
million versus $12.0 million in the same period of the previous year.
The pro forma net loss for the second quarter was $11.2 million, excluding amortization of intangibles, non-cash
compensation expenses and restructuring charges, or $0.34 per share, compared with a pro forma net loss of $4.5
million, or $0.16 per share, for the same period last year. Net loss on a GAAP basis for the second quarter was
$68.1 million and includes restructuring charges and asset impairment costs totaling $55.0 million. These charges
comprise $53.5 million of costs resulting from the company`s decision not to occupy a new, previously leased
headquarters facility in Redwood City and $1.5 million of costs associated with a reduction in headcount in April.
Software license revenue for the second quarter was $5.0 million compared with
$8.7 million in the same period last year. Service revenue for the second quarter
was $5.0 million versus $3.3 million in the same period last year.
As of June 30, 2001, the company had $190.9 million in cash and cash equivalents.
"In Q2, our revenues continued to reflect the overall challenging business climate
for technology companies," said Ron Croen, president and CEO of Nuance.
"Nonetheless, we continued to work on customer prospects, focused marketing
programs and channel relationships, as well as rolling out new products and
services. We also reduced expenses by decreasing headcount and implementing
other cost control measures. We are confident that these actions, together with our
strong cash position, lay a strong foundation for resumed growth in the future."
In the quarter, Nuance launched several products and services. These included Voice Web Server 1.2, Nuance`s
VoiceXML software platform that fully supports the emerging standard for voice application development, Nuance
Vocalizer 1.0 text-to-speech software, and the addition of "Say Anything" technology to the Nuance 7.0 speech
recognition engine. Nuance Voice Interface Consulting and Production Services have expanded to include
persona design and production. These services help Nuance customers improve user satisfaction with their
systems. All of these offerings are designed to help Nuance and its partners streamline the development and
deployment of voice applications and to maximize return on investment and end-user satisfaction for enterprises
and telecommunications service providers.
Nuance continued to win new business during the quarter. In the wireless carrier market, Nuance provided the
speech recognition software for AT&T Wireless` recently deployed voice portal, based on the Tellme Networks
platform. Nuance provided the enabling software in several other pilot applications that started in the second
quarter with telecommunications carriers from around the world. Nuance added new enterprise customers to its
roster including UBS -- the Swiss parent of UBS PaineWebber and UBS Warburg -- and All Nippon Airways.
Also in the quarter, Nuance hosted the most successful V-World conference to date. Over 1000 participants from
33 countries attended the event, with the main focus being the development, design and deployment of
speech-based applications.
Business Outlook
The company currently estimates the following for the third quarter of 2001:
-- Revenue between $9.0 million and $11.0 million;
-- Pro forma net loss per share, excluding amortization of intangibles and
non-cash compensation expenses, between $0.29 and $0.35 per share;
-- Cash, cash equivalents and short term investments at September 30, 2001
between $173 and $177 million; and
-- Weighted average shares outstanding of 32.9 million shares.
