- 7 mio $ revenue sharing in 2nd quarter
- 2 trillion $ combined buying volume
- significant sap-pre-payment to come

Hi DimStar,
was meinst du mit: - 7 mio $ revenue sharing in 2nd quarter ?

Also DimStar,
$ Good-
will pro Quartal nicht aus.
Gute Nacht.

Hallo DimStar,
toller Link. War genau das, was ich brauchte. Danke.

$ 7 Mio.
Eigentlich

The B2B Footrace
By Paul Commins
The latest round of results is in. After market close yesterday, B2B market enablers CommerceOne (Nasdaq: CMRC - news) and i2 Technologies (Nasdaq: ITWO - news) reported quarterly earnings for the three months ending June 30, adding to last week`s report from competitor Ariba (Nasdaq: ARBA - news).
To this trio of upstart reports, add results from established software giant Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL - news) -- reported in June for the quarter ending 5/31 -- and you have a useful basis for industry comparison. Between them, these four companies are providing the lion`s share of the software infrastructure powering the rapid growth in business-to-business Internet marketplaces.
Reviewing the numbers, straight top-line growth investors will find a runaway winner in Ariba, which more than doubled its total revenue in a single quarter:
Total Revenue (millions)
For Three Months Ending: Growth:
.......6/30/00...3/31/00...6/30/99...Q-Q.....Yr-Yr
ARBA.......81.........40.........12......101%......578%
CMRC......63.........35...........4.......79%.....1392%
ITWO......243........186.......131.......30%.......85%
ORCL*.3,374.....2,449.....2,943.......38%.......15%
*Oracle quarters end 5/31 and 2/28
And if you believe the stock market is an efficient reflection of business strength, Ariba`s revenue growth is indeed a significant accomplishment. Since June 16, the Friday before Oracle`s release, the market shows Ariba`s stock is up 70%, versus 9% for CommerceOne. i2 and Oracle, the more established and profitable players, show a gain of 14% and a loss of 10%, respectively.
Ariba has clearly leveraged its dominant, pre-B2B position in corporate purchasing software. Buyers drive marketplaces, and Ariba`s connection to buyers appears to have led them to the ground floor of more early, live markets than anybody else. They report roughly $16 million, or almost 20% of total revenues, from marketplace-related (non-software) service fees versus $7 million, or 11% of total earnings, for CommerceOne.
But it`s still very early. Before anyone declares the contest over, with Ariba the winner, here are some angles to consider:
CommerceOne
In their conference call, CommerceOne stresses their position as the dominant builder of "mega-exchanges," vertical marketplaces driven by large powerful buyers. Four large mega-exchanges -- in energy, aerospace, automotive parts and utilities -- have signed up CommerceOne, over Ariba, as a key software infrastructure provider, and more such deals are said to be pending. A CommerceOne proponent will tell you that such monumental efforts are fraught with complexity, both technical and political, and take longer to get off the ground.
All four competitors seem to agree on one point: they are seeing a much higher-than-expected demand for higher-level marketplace services. Early B2B participants are happy so far, it appears, and are suddenly excited about ways to wrench greater value from these early marketplaces -- in areas like secure payment systems, logistics and collaborative (among companies) product design and supply chain management. If this trend is representative of the future, CommerceOne`s more complex, later-to-bud ventures may prove more lucrative in the long run, as hordes of suppliers sign on to feed the vertical beasts.
i2 Technologies
This sudden excitement over more complex network services leads companies right into i2`s wheelhouse. The old i2 was the recognized master of supply chain software that integrates the production planning systems of numerous suppliers, at every level, even if these independent companies have dissimilar computing systems. The recent acquisition of Aspect Development positions the new i2 to tackle the other piece of the puzzle -- collaboration in the planning of future supply chains that emerge from product development efforts.
i2 may not match Ariba`s marketplace build rate and early growth in transaction-related revenues, but increasing demand for their more sophisticated, more expensive software may eventually close this gap.
Oracle
Since Oracle`s business scope is much broader (wiseacre comments about it "reaching all the way to waste management" not withstanding), it`s wise not to read too much into its drop in stock price over this same period. Oracle is still Oracle, arguably the most dominant player in business software, and its field of play encompasses much more than B2B marketplace building.
Nonetheless, Oracle has framed its new identity around its first-mover jump in the emerging business Internet, led by its end-to-end e-business application suite. Even considering that Oracle`s plan to conquer the overall business Internet is impressive, that marketplace revenues are just a tiny piece of its multibillion dollar revenue stream, that it`s very early in the game, and that stock prices respond to lots of forces, it`s still hard to ignore these recent results. They do raise a question or two about Oracle`s ability to deliver, at least on the marketplace-building piece of the puzzle.

Ariba vs. Commerce One, round two

$7 million.
That`s the number that stands out from Commerce One`s second-quarter earnings report.
The b-to-b e-commerce software company brought in that tidy sum during the quarter from "exchange revenue." In other words, Commerce One (CMRC) is getting paid real transaction fees for the goods and services flowing through the marketplaces it powers.
Now $7 million may not sound like much, but it`s significant in light of the growing number of skeptics who believed exchange revenue was destined for the garbage heap of Internet business model history. More encouraging news for Commerce One: The $7 million came from just 34 exchanges and marketplaces that are live. Another 38 are still being built, and included in this group are all the industry mega-exchanges Commerce One has won, including the Covisint auto exchange.
"The $7 million in exchange revenue really surprised me," says Jon Ekoniak, an analyst with U.S. Piper Jaffray Bancorp, who rates Commerce One a "strong buy." "I wasn`t expecting anything close to that number until the fourth quarter, so it provides great visibility moving forward."
Companies like Commerce One are successfully turning the traditional software business model on its head. Instead of relying solely on license revenue, which naturally decreases over time as the available customer pool narrows (look at what happened to SAP, PeopleSoft and other ERP players), Commerce One generates progressively larger amounts of revenue as its online marketplaces grow.
Remember that Ariba (ARBA) has focused more on selling e-procurement software to big corporations, which generates greater upfront license revenue. Ariba is also selling its software to online marketplaces, but Ekoniak believes Commerce One is stronger, and therefore stands a better chance of racking up greater, long-term exchange revenue.
Long term? Who thinks long term these days? Maybe that`s why Ariba has outmuscled Commerce One on Wall Street. There`s still a lot of uncertainty and risk involved with Commerce One`s strategy, which hinges on turning exchange hype into reality. So, when you stack the two companies side by side, and look at current customer rolls and revenue, Ariba wins the battle.
But who will win the war?

alles gute
