Hier die Meldung:

ONYX PHARMACEUTICALS (ONXX, 900778, Kurse & Charts) soll nach einem Bericht eines amerikanischen Medizin-Journals eine Kombi-Therapie entwickelt haben, die bei mehr als 80% der in einer Testreihe teilnehmenden Patienten den Rückgang bei Kopf- und Halstumoren bewirkt. Das Medikament - ein Virus, der auf eine Genveränderung in bestimmten Krebszellen reagiert - bewirkte bei 63% der 30 an der Studie teilnehmenden Patienten eine Schrumpfung der Tumore um mehr als die Hälfte. Das Medikament wird in Kombination mit Chemotherapie verabreicht.
ONYXX schloss gestern 8.7% fester mit $ 10 7/8 und stieg nachbörslich bis auf $ 17.

Eine ernstgemeinte Warnung, da gibt es eine absolut exakte Parallele: Vor einigen Wochen gab es eine Biotech-Konferenz, auf der Imclone Systems (IMCL) seine Testergebnisse aus zwei Testreihen zu exakt derselben Indikation vorstellte. 12 von 12 Testpatienten sprachen auf die Therapie nahezu vollständig an, bei einer weiteren Patientenreihe waren es immer noch ca. 90%. Nagelt mich nicht auf die genauen Prozente fest. Lässt sich alles nachlesen in älteren Threads zu Imclone.
Nachbörslich bekanntgegeben, brachten die News einen Anstieg im US-Morgenhandel bis auf ca. 105$. Kurz nach Börseneröffnung krachte es auf 90 $, in den folgenden Tagen auf 75. Und wie es mit der Aktie weiterging, könnt ihr aus dem Chart ersehen. Langeweile bei 80-90 $.
Und jetzt ratet mal, wer in D kurz vor NASDAQ-Eröffnung zu 112€ gekauft hat? So was mache ich nie wieder! Ab jetzt wird abgewartet, was die Amis machen! Die kennen nämlich nur eins: Sell on good news!

Onyx Pharmaceuticals Reports Second Quarter And Six Months Financial Results
RICHMOND, Calif., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ONXX - news) announced today the results of operations for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2000.

The company reported net income of $1,438,000, or $0.10 per share for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 compared with a net loss of $5,249,000, or $0.46 per share for the same quarter in 1999. For the six months ended June 30, 2000, the company reported a net loss of $242,000, or $0.02 per share compared with a net loss of $8,357,000, or $0.73 per share for the same period in 1999.

Total revenue for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 of $9,010,000 was attributable to amounts earned under the company`s research and development collaborations with Pfizer Inc. This revenue included a one-time $3,700,000 research milestone payment from Pfizer for progress in Onyx`s armed anti-cancer virus collaboration. Net of the research milestone payment, revenue increased this quarter by approximately $3,500,000 over the same period last year. This increase was due primarily to the collaboration agreement with Pfizer, effective as of September 1999, to develop and commercialize CI-1042 (ONYX-015) as well as two armed therapeutic viruses.

``The Pfizer research payment resulted in a profitable second quarter for Onyx. This was a one-time event,`` said Hollings Renton, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the company. ``We expect to return to a loss position in the next quarter and increase spending from prior levels due to the recent start of clinical testing of a ras pathway inhibitor that we`re co-developing with Bayer Corporation.``

Total operating expenses of $8,118,000 for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 were $843,000 greater than in the same period last year. This increase is primarily attributable to development expenses associated with the recently initiated Phase III clinical trials of CI-1042 and general and administrative expenses.

``During the second quarter, Onyx began Phase III trials with our lead therapeutic virus. In addition, Bayer filed a U.S. Investigational New Drug application (IND) in May to begin clinical testing of a ras pathway inhibitor compound in the United States,`` noted Mr. Renton. ``This is the first drug candidate to reach the clinic from our relationship, which is aimed at discovering compounds that treat cancer by inhibiting or changing the activity of the ras pathway. As such, it represents an important milestone for our company. In early July, we announced that clinical testing of this compound had begun in Germany, and we expect to initiate U.S. trials as well as make additional regulatory filings to conduct studies in Canada and Belgium in the coming weeks.``

As of June 30, 2000, the company had cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments of $39,758,000.

Onyx Pharmaceuticals is engaged in the discovery and development of novel cancer therapies based on the genetic mutations that cause the disease. Die Zahlen sollten aber kritisch betrachtet werden. Schön, dass das Q2-Ergebnis positiv ist. Das aber nur aufgrund einer Pfizer-Einmalzahlung. Die nächsten Qs werden wieder negativ ausfallen.
