hier mal was von heute

Was ist los?

Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. Launches PG1 High-End Video Gateway
At IBC 2000
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Path 1 Network Technologies Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: PNWK; Frankfurt: PNT) will introduce and demonstrate its
PG1 TrueCircuit(TM) Video Gateway at the International Broadcasting Convention
(IBC) held in Amsterdam September 8-12, 2000. The demonstration is designed
to show three streams of 270 Megabit uncompressed broadcast-quality video and
audio being sent through an IP/Ethernet network resulting in a single fiber
utilization of over 94%. The demonstration will be viewable in the Leitch
Technology Corporation (Nasdaq: LVID; Toronto: LTV) booth.
The PG1 is a TrueCircuit(TM) gateway device which can move broadcast-
quality serial digital video streams to a gigabit IP/Ethernet network. There
are approximately 1,200 broadcast studios that could potentially benefit from
using multiple PG1s in their planned transition to digital television. The
device also allows broadcasters to converge IT networks with their video
networks to reduce overall cost and increase management effectiveness of their
total network solutions.
TrueCircuit(TM) is a proprietary technology that enables time-critical
information to be carried over IP (Internet Protocol) Ethernet with guaranteed
QoS (Quality of Service) levels generally associated with circuit-switched
networks, thereby eliminating the reluctance of studio broadcasters to move to
IP networks. TrueCircuit(TM) technology provides quality of service (QoS)
guarantees for both real-time and non-real-time traffic over an IP network.
The IBC demonstration plans to show TrueCircuit(TM) co-existing with standard
IP/Ethernet switches. TrueCircuit(TM)`s ability to synchronize IP equipment
allows all the video and audio streams to be precisely synchronized, according
to the broadcast industry standards. To Path 1`s knowledge, this will be the
first time any company will have demonstrated multiple, synchronized
broadcast-quality uncompressed video over an IP network using standard Gigabit
Ethernet links.

Editing und run-down Playlisten in Betrieb.
Serie an.

PATH 1 NETWORK TECHNOLOGIES: UPDATE
OTC-BB : PNWK $ 9.00
FRANKFURT Stock Exchange : PNT E 11.00
In our August report we noted that Path1`s initial products are aimed at the Professional Broadcast video market.
a.. Path1`s first concept, the PG1, was introduced at NAB 2000 in Las Vegas (April 10-13, 2000)
b.. A licensing agreement signed with Leitch Technology Corp. (LTV-TO, LVID-Nasdaq), whereby Leitch will incorporate Path1`s TrueCircuitT technology into their equipment (April 10, 2000)
c.. A first introduction of Path1`s TrueCircuitT technology arranged by Leitch at the 19th FKTG in Germany May 22-25, 2000)
d.. Path1 announces the first order for its PG1. This order from Leitch follows the successful performance of the product at a Leitch customer site (September 5, 2000)
e.. Leitch, jointly with Path1, demonstrate the PG1 at IBC 2000 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (September 8-12, 2000)
The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) is the annual international gathering of the professional broadcast industry, with over 40,000 participants from around the world.
We visited the Leitch Booth (Stand No. 10.320) at IBC a number of times and were impressed with the size of the booth and the large customer attendance, which continued throughout the conference.
But we were even more excited to see that Path1`s TrueCircuitT technology was demonstrated so prominently. A large and central section of the Leitch booth was dedicated to TrueCircuitT technology and the demonstration of the PG1 Video Gateway.
We learned from Leitch employees that the initial order for the Path1`s PG1 refers to a large US broadcasting company.
Representatives of Path1 and also Leitch (TrueCircuit dedicated) personnel informed us that the interest for TrueCircuitT related products is enormous. Not only from the broadcast industry, but also several large wellknown networking (equipment) companies have expressed their interest, which could lead to specific strategic partnerships.
Leitch already published a TrueCircuitT brochure which was distributed at IBC, which at your request, we will gladly send you a copy of.
Leitch`s promotion of TrueCircuitT does not come as a surprise, considering that its Annual report, which can be downloaded from: http://www.leitch.com/investors/ar_index.phtml , makes many references to both TrueCircuitT and Path1.
a.. In its corporate overview Leitch identifies five lines of business among which "video over IP", whereby Leitch positions itself through the TrueCircuitT (Path1) license. (page 7).
b.. Leitch will be working to bring its video-knowledge to the dot-com and telco/cable worlds, whereby they are currently working to embed Path1`s TrueCircuitT technology in its existing products, which will be unveiled at NAB 2001 coming April (page 5)
c.. The video over IP market will surge in the coming years, and Leitch is ready to capitalize on the resulting need for broadcast-quality video over the Internet. In April 2000 Leitch acquired a 30% interest in Path1, which primary product TrueCircuitT allows for precise transmission of video, voice and data over Ethernet networks. A multi-year exclusive licensing agreement was entered into, to integrate Path1`s TrueCircuitT technology into Leitch`s products for the broadcast industry worldwide. (page 17)
d.. As Dr. John McDonald, Leitch`s CEO stated,"TrueCircuitT could easily manage video distribution at home, and any function Path1 performs for video will absolutely work with voice"(page 17 ).
e.. Leitch and Path1 expect to release new products incorporating this technology in the fall of 2000 (keynote page 17)
This we believe clearly identifies Leitch`s strategy with regard to Path1 and its TrueCicuitT technology. Considering Leitch`s position as a market leader in the professional broadcast arena, with revenue of over C$ 200 million, and clients such as ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and CNN, it will not take long before TrueCircuitT technology will become part of every day life in the broadcasting world.
The response received by Leitch and Path1 at IBC shows that the broadcasting- and networking industry will quickly embrace products, that actually deliver the needed performance.
We are convinced that this will have a positive effect on the revenue of both Leitch and Path1.
The performance of the share-price of Path1 has been disappointing over the last couple of months. However the recent announcements regarding the delivery and initial sales of its first product, we believe, will quickly increase the awareness of Path1 among the global investment community.

Path 1`s TrueCircuit(R) Technology Triples
Bandwidth Utilization
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Path 1 Network Technologies Inc.`s (OTC
Bulletin Board: PNWK; Frankfurt: PNT) TrueCircuit® technology enabled a threefold increase in bandwidth utilization in
demonstrations conducted at the International Broadcast Conference (IBC) in Amsterdam September 8-12.
Dr. Yendo Hu, Path 1`s vice president for video products said, ``We proved we could deliver three uncompressed SDI
streams over a single gigabit Ethernet fiber and reach 94% bandwidth utilization through generic Ethernet switches.``
Without TrueCircuit®, only about 30% of the bandwidth can be used before collisions begin to occur.
The IBC demonstration featured three uncompressed 270 Mbs video channels combined onto one Gigabit Ethernet link using a
standard Gigabit Ethernet switch. In total, about 940 megabits of video and audio were riding on the network, with no
collisions.
Carriers have a vested interest in maximizing the use of their existing bandwidth. True broadcast quality Video on Demand
requires very efficient utilization of bandwidth. Traditionally, the only way to protect against collision has been to
``over-provision`` capacity on the network. TrueCircuit® resolves the collision problem without the need to over-provision.
TrueCircuit® is a technology that automatically and instantaneously sets up and tears down virtual channels within an IP
network or Ethernet LAN, satisfying the needs of time-critical applications such as voice over IP and live video. TrueCircuit®
is completely backward compatible with existing Ethernet and IP networks, and can link IP Networks to ATM networks. The
result is clear voice and video sharing the same data lines with all computer data traffic supported over legacy wiring, and with
continuing support for currently installed network equipment. This end-to-end traffic management brings the Quality of Service
(QoS) advantages of circuit switching to packet-switched networks
With TrueCircuit®-enabled networks, applications thought to be years away can be achieved now. As IBC keynote speaker
David Wood, head of European Broadcast Union`s Technology Group, stated, ``Eventually we will see widespread broadband
Internet which has the capacity to carry broadcast quality without restriction.`` The capability to deliver true broadcast quality
video via IP exists today with Path 1`s TrueCircuit® technology.
TrueCircuit® is positioned to serve broadcasters, motion picture studios, carriers, cable providers and businesses with
solutions to meet tomorrow`s demands today. Path 1 is developing a line of products based on TrueCircuit® technology, and
also offers its technology for license to strategic partners. Path 1 is also developing new technologies to meet the emerging
needs of the fully networked studio, business and home environment.

was bisher überhaupt verkauft wurde!

Leitch Makes Strategic Investment in Fastvibe Corporation
Leitch`s suite of technology solutions to now include complete streaming media solutions
TORONTO, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ - Leitch Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:LVID - news; TSE:LTV - news) is pleased to announce it has acquired 12.5% of the equity of Fastvibe Corporation for a purchase price of U.S.$2.5 million. In addition, Leitch has the option to acquire up to an additional 22.5% equity in Fastvibe. Fastvibe is a video services provider that is a private early-stage technology company headquartered in Toronto. The combination of Leitch`s video expertise and Fastvibe`s video service-provider strategy extends both companies` reach into the high-growth video services-over-IP market.
Fastvibe is currently developing end-to-end video streaming and content management solutions for a variety of applications including virtual presentations, interactive reports, and real time video broadcasts. Fastvibe will now be working with Leitch to develop video-over-IP commercial services, using the wealth of video and broadcast expertise contained within the Leitch organization.
The partnership with Fastvibe strongly supports Leitch`s growth strategy of leveraging its core competencies in video processing into new and expanded markets, including video transmitted over the Internet. Leitch is playing a growing role in developing solutions for delivery of high quality video over IP fabrics.
``Fastvibe`s business strategy fits extremely well with Leitch`s objectives in securing a major position in this market. Fastvibe will be on the cusp of the fast-changing video-over-IP industry. Companies and individuals that exchange streaming-media files are moving from a store and forward approach to one where high quality video will be distributed through public networks by leading broadcast video companies,`` said John MacDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer of Leitch.
Mr. MacDonald also commented that ``the video expertise that Leitch has developed in the traditional broadcast industry will be our calling card as we partner with Fastvibe to offer video-over-IP services through the Internet. We believe that those companies able to turn video content into assets and ultimately into commerce will reap significant market opportunities. It is our view that Fastvibe can be a key component of this transformation. The Fastvibe investment is a great addition to our newly launched video-over-IP line of business, announced earlier this year.``
Leitch`s current core markets are broadcast interface equipment, broadband switches and high capacity video servers for real time news and sports applications. Leitch VR Technology(TM) based systems are the most advanced video servers available today. The systems are designed on Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop technology to provide video workstations with simultaneous shared access to online video material.
``Leitch is a well known and trusted name in video, renowned for its innovation, and Leitch equipment is the standard throughout the broadcast industry. Fastvibe`s advanced architecture and strategy align perfectly with Leitch`s efforts to accelerate the broadcast on broadband revolution. Fastvibe`s solutions will reduce costs for content providers and help make a great broadband experience available to the public,`` said Mr. Greg O`Hara, one of Fastvibe`s founders and its President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. O`Hara was previously a senior executive with Sabre Inc., one of the world`s largest transactional reservation systems for many global airlines. ``We are very excited to be able to announce this investment. Through our relationship with Leitch, Fastvibe plans to offer video-over-IP services to a wide variety of companies in a method and at a level of quality and service which has been unavailable thus far.``

I see digital people
John MacDonald is taking Leitch Technology to the future of
broadcasting.
By Jason Kirby | Issue date: date
When John MacDonald flew off to a broadcasting
conference in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago, the
president and CEO of Leitch Technology Corp. knew
he’d be sharing the floor with some big names. The
list of 800 exhibitors at the annual International
Broadcasting Convention included powerhouses like
Sony and Motorola. Though he didn’t have a
household name, MacDonald had a product that
could change the way broadcasters do business.
For nearly three decades, television stations around
the world have used a stable of Leitch products to
splice and dice video, and send it along the
airwaves. The company (TSE: LTV) is already one of
the largest suppliers of digital video equipment to
the television industry. Its most successful products
include servers, routers and processors for keeping
video and audio signals clean and in sync within a
newsroom. But MacDonald, who took the helm last
November, knows that TV will never be able to
match the immediacy and interactivity of the Net.
The future of broadcasting relies on Leitch’s entry
into Internet Protocol technology.
The television execs attending the Amsterdam
conference were the first to see News-in-a-Box, the
gadget that’s been occupying most of MacDonald’s
time these days. It’s a complete digital newsroom
that will allow broadcasters to stream their
programming over the Internet at almost the same
time they broadcast it on TV.
Until now, the Leitch name has been the secret of
techies and die-hard David Letterman fans, who’ve
managed to spot a plain white clock that hangs in
the studio of the gap-toothed host’s late night
show. If you happened to catch an episode when
Letterman timed a stunt, for example, you probably
saw one of the clocks Leitch sells to the broadcast
industry.
Besides its name, and the fact that Leitch
technology may have identified the fastest
three-legged dog in New York (or whatever), the
most important thing you need to know about the
company is that its products are used by the biggest
television stations in the world. In fact, Leitch has a
veritable alphabet soup of customers–including CBC
and CTV in Canada, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS in the
US, and the BBC and BSkyB in the UK. It’s hard to
gauge Leitch’s share of the broadcast market,
because many of its competitors are private or, like
Sony, offer diverse product lines. Still, Brian Piccioni,
an analyst with BMO Nesbitt Burns in Toronto, says
he believes the company easily ranks as one of the
top five broadcast suppliers in the US. The company
continues to gobble up market share, and sales of
some of its core products are expected to grow by
55% this year.
So why mess with success? If things are going so
well with Leitch’s traditional line, why is MacDonald
hurtling the company into risky, unproven territory?
Well, as a leader in the growing market, he can’t
afford not to. The broadcast industry is spinning in
response to rapid technological changes. And while
there’s no way to predict how broadcasting will
evolve, you can bet your money–and you
should–that it will centre on digital video. As
MacDonald likes to say, "Video will be the killer
app." And few do digital better than Leitch. "We’re
not walking away from our broadcast business," he
says, "but I think there are opportunities to take our
know-how and some of the cash generated from
servicing the broadcast sector, and put it into these
other areas."
Chances are, unless your computer at work is hooked
up to a super-high-speed ISDN line, your experience
with moving pictures on the Internet has been, well,
anything but moving. Thumbnail-sized views with
jerky, fuzzy images (was that Paul McCartney
jamming in the Cavern Club in Liverpool, or a
passing walrus?) have become all too familiar. A
common prediction is that as the Internet gets
faster, the lines between your computer, television
and phone will fade. But as long as bandwidth limits
the signals of streamed video, MacDonald knows no
one will take the Internet seriously as a rival to
cable and the airwaves. "People will accept
low-quality video on their PCs because there are
advantages to it. You can watch it when you want
instead of waiting for somebody to program it for
you. But you’re not going to accept that kind of
quality streaming on your TV."
That’s why one of the first things MacDonald did at
Leitch was to buy a company with technology that
promised to uncork the bottlenecks. That outfit was
San Diego-based Path 1 Network Technologies Inc.
(traded over the counter under PNWK). Leitch picked
up a 37.7% stake, worth about US$10 million, in the
Internet firm in April and has already started
combining Path 1’s TrueCircuit technology with its
own products.
To understand TrueCircuit technology, picture two
computers on an ethernet network. If they both start
talking at the same time, the ethernet protocol
detects a collision and both computers back off.
When all’s clear, they start to talk again, until the
next time they both send data simultaneously. Now
picture a network of thousands of PCs, with one
machine that’s trying to send real-time video, and
you soon realize why networks get congested.
TrueCircuit directs traffic and prevents those
collisions. For now, TrueCircuit will speed up traffic
only on local ethernets. But by the end of 2001 you
may finally be able to watch your favorite soaps in
crystal clear form from the comfort of your office
computer.
To keep costs down, Leitch does much of its own
in-house manufacturing, and that includes designing
and producing its own videocentric silicon chips. In
1998, Leitch bought Swedish circuit maker SiliCon
Construction AB, maker of the five chips that are
now the core of Leitch products. A new company
called SiCon of Richmond Hill, Ont., was formed to
develop Leitch’s latest chip project. The Helix project
has a name that sounds like a 1980s sci-fi horror
flick, but it has the potential to bring real-time video
to just about any appliance. Sitting in his North
York, Ont., office, MacDonald holds up his RIM
BlackBerry pager. "If I want to know what Gordon
Thiessen said today about interest rates, I can
watch and listen to his speech on this." Hold the
applause; it’s just part of MacDonald’s plan to
spread his net a little wider and to keep trying to
capture new customers. Investors should be
encouraged by the strategy–after all, Leitch learned
its lessons the hard way.
Back in 1997 the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) said it wanted the 2,500 or so TV
stations in the US to switch their signals from
analogue to digital to greet the arrival of high
definition TV (HDTV) and to free up spectrum for the
boom in new wireless devices. So the FCC offered
free digital broadcast licences and sat back to wait
for the changeover. By May 1, 2003, all broadcasters
in the US are supposed to transmit their signals
digitally, and in 2006, the FCC plans to shut down
analogue TV for good.
You wouldn’t be alone in thinking that the
large-scale transfer would be a windfall for Leitch.
The company’s stock rallied into the $40 range from
$26, largely due to investors who anticipated the
flood of new contracts. But today, with less than two
years to go before the first deadline, only 141 US
stations (or 5.6%) have made the change to digital.
Stations have been overcome by mass confusion
about what the universal standard for digital signals
will be, and they’re hesitant to spend millions to
upgrade studios when no one is sure where the
Internet is headed.
Leitch got caught in the confusion. With 51% of its
business coming from the US, MacDonald and co.
were highly susceptible to the whims of US
broadcast executives. "In their traditional business
right now, Leitch’s customers are caught in a
transitional phase," says Piccioni. "It’s almost like
the industry is coasting." Investors got spooked and
dumped their shares, driving Leitch’s price south of
$16 by the end of 1999 from its $40 level a year
earlier. While other tech stocks soared, Leitch
couldn’t get off the ground.
In the summer of 1999, when Leitch, then headed by
Bob Lehtonen, was getting pummeled, MacDonald
was in Ottawa, relaxing on the back deck. He’d
spent many of his 22 years in the telecom industry
sprinting up corporate ladders, but what he really
lusted after was the chance to run a company that
was changing high tech. In 1994, he made the leap
from engineer at NBTel to president and CEO and,
soon after, was hired away by Bell Canada to be its
chief technology officer. There, he launched Bell’s
Sympatico Internet service, and by 1997 he was
running the company. In 1999, when his contract
expired, MacDonald decided he wanted out of the
service industry and took a few months off. By late
summer, when Lehtonen called and invited him to
Leitch’s Toronto office, he was ready to jump at the
chance. "Besides, my wife hinted that it was time I
got out of the house and found a job," he quips.
MacDonald liked what he saw. Leitch had a solid
reputation, no debt and margins averaging between
55% and 60%. But it was struggling in the face of
rapid industry change and was in desperate need of
a high-tech makeover. Sales in fiscal 2000 fell to
$163.1 million from $173.2 million the year before,
while net earnings tumbled 34% to $17.3 million
from $26.3 million in 1999. But shortly after
MacDonald took over, things started to improve. In
the last two quarters, Leitch has posted record
sales, although profit has yet to catch up. In his 11
months on the job, MacDonald had been given a
warm reception by investors. By Sept. 14, Leitch
shares increased 69% to $28.70 from $17 around the
time he joined the firm. John Safrance, an analyst at
First Associates Investments in Toronto, sets a
target of $34.50 for the stock over 12 months. "I
think at $28 its traditional business is fairly valued,"
he says. "I see the upside coming from video over
the Internet. It’s going to be such a huge application
that a higher multiple is warranted."
And there’s a very good chance Leitch will still profit
from the switch to digital in the US, because as
equipment becomes outdated, TV stations will buy
new digital technology. BMO’s Piccioni says it’s likely
many of the 141 stations now broadcasting in digital
are still using analogue equipment within the studio
and only bought a converter for a few hundred
thousand dollars to switch the signal to digital
before it goes out. When they finally upgrade their
studios, there will be contracts in the millions.
Leitch could get them. And News-in-a-Box, the
technology MacDonald unveiled in Amsterdam, could
be a major player in the transformation.
Whoever figures out where the broadcast industry is
headed–whether it’s HDTV, the Internet, cable or
wireless–stands to make a killing. With his hands in
all four, John MacDonald is on his way to finding out.
"We understand video more than the traditional IT
guys like Cisco," he says. "They’re transforming
themselves and no one knows what the end result
will be." Whatever that killer app is, investors are
counting on MacDonald to figure it out before
everyone else.

PATH 1 ACQUIRES SILICON DESIGN FIRM TO EXPAND
HIGH-BANDWIDTH VIDEO NETWORKING
Addition of Innovative ASIC Design Firm Should Dramatically Speed Development Of
Industry-First 10GB Ethernet MAC Chips Incorporating Path 1`s TrueCircuitT Technology.
(SAN DIEGO, Calif., October 30, 2000) - Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: PNWK) (Frankfurt: PNT) announced today the acquisition of the assets of Metar ADC, an integrated circuit design company specializing in high-speed network communications devices. Included in the purchase is the Metar ADC line of switch, interface and Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) designs, as well as the company`s skilled ASIC engineering team. The transaction is valued at US$2 million plus performance incentives, if all goals and milestones are met over the next 36 months.
TrueCircuitT, Path 1`s patent-pending quality of service (QoS) technology, combined with Metar ADC`s core designs will enable e-Cinema, Video-On-Demand, videoconferencing, surveillance and other video services over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Incorporating TrueCircuitT into MAC chips will strengthen Path 1`s ability to improve performance at lower prices for a wide range of high-bandwidth video and multimedia services.
"Simply increasing network bandwidth is not the solution for delivering high-quality, real-time content over IP," said Dr. Michael T. Elliott, Path 1`s president and CEO. "Path 1`s video transport expertise and TrueCircuitT technology make bandwidth utilization more efficient. The Metar ADC acquisition expedites Path 1`s integration of TrueCircuitT technology into silicon chips, and is a big step forward in achieving our vision of deploying Internet video services into every home. We expect to have a marketable TrueCircuitT-enabled MAC chip by mid 2001."
Path 1`s TrueCircuitT is a technology that "sets-up" and "tears-down" protected virtual channels within an IP network or Ethernet LAN for satisfying the needs of real-time applications such as telephony and interactive video. Leitch Technology Corporation, Path 1`s strategic partner, demonstrated the ability of TrueCircuitT products to multiplex high-bandwidth high-quality video in a broadcast studio application over a single Ethernet link at the recent IBC show in Amsterdam, Holland and the SMPTE conference in Pasadena, Calif. TrueCircuitT technology is backward compatible with existing Ethernet and IP protocols, and can link IP networks to ATM networks.
"Several well-known telecommunications companies expressed interest in acquiring Metar ADC, but the upside of joining forces with Path 1 was far greater than if we had been acquired by someone else," said Michael Florea, CEO of Metar ADC. "Once we examined the potential of integrating TrueCircuitT technology with our 10 Gigabit and other MAC products, it was clear we had something unique and powerful to offer to the market."
Application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) are the engines that power many of today`s electronic products, including telecommunications equipment, televisions, cellular phones and other consumer appliances. Path 1 plans to integrate TrueCircuitT technology into ASICs in order to make it available to a broad range of existing systems, including IP networks. Implementing TrueCircuitT technology on an ASIC would allow the technology to migrate from the broadcast studio all the way through the telecommunications infrastructure and into the home and office. Path 1 also intends to license specific subsets of its ASIC core designs.
In addition to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC design, Path 1 has acquired Metar ADC`s 10/100 MAC, Gigabit MAC, 10/100/1000 MAC, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit switches. Path 1 also has acquired Metar ADC`s expertise in queue management (dynamic/static) with adaptive resource control and QoS scheduler, fast and deep search engines, full VLAN implementation and non-blocking switch architectures for L2/L3 switching as well as its simulation test-benches (PLI) for all its MAC products, switches, buffer management, VLAN and CPU access.
