Ein in dem Thread "Rhein Biotech: Anlauf auf Höchststände" reingestellten Beitrag möchte ich hiermit in einen seperaten Thread reinstellen, weil ich die Meldung für relativ wichtig halte und weil ich schon gerne wüßte, was der ein oder andere davon hält:

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Vaccinating all infants against the hepatitis B virus is the cornerstone of the national effort to eliminate this disease. Experts recommend that all babies get the first of their three doses either during the first week of life or between 1 and 2 months of age.

A new report published in The Journal of the American Medical Association for August 23/30 suggests, however, that infants who get their first vaccination during the first week of life are more likely to receive the entire series.

``Once infected, infants and children are much more likely to develop chronic hepatitis B virus infections than are adults,`` according to Hussain R. Yusuf and colleagues from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. ``However, early childhood infections can be prevented through hepatitis B vaccination of infants.``

The researchers analyzed data from the 1998 National Immunization Survey, which included almost 35,000 telephone interviews with parents and confirmation of the children`s immunization records.

Of the children who were between the ages of 19 and 35 months, 87% had received all three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine, Yusuf and colleagues report, and 97% received at least one. Fifty-five percent of these children had their first vaccination within their first week of life, and 95% within the first 3 months.

The investigators found that the older an infant was when he or she received the first dose, the less likely that child was to get all three doses. In addition, babies who got their first hepatitis B vaccination after the age of 3 months were less likely to get other vaccines, such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, and flu.

It is not clear why an earlier dose of hepatitis B vaccine is more effective, but the fact that the immunization is the only one that is allowed for newborns may lead both parents and doctors to take this vaccination more seriously, according to the report. In addition, giving this vaccine during the first week reduces the number of shots a baby gets at later visits, which could make parents and doctors feel more comfortable.

Hepatitis B is a serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the liver. The illness can cause lifelong infection, cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure and death.

Jetzt kann man sich mal überlegen, was es bzgl. des zukünftigen Umsatz- und Gewinnausweis von RB bedeuten könnte, wenn in den USA und Canada eine generelle Impfung aller Babies in der ersten Lebenswoche eingeführt wird?

RB ist zur Zeit die Nr.3 der Hepatitis-B Impfstoffhersteller, und das weltweit! Und RB besitzt eine Produktionatechnologie, die nur 10% der üblichen Kosten verursacht. Wenn eine generelle Impfung eingeführt wird in den USA, eventuell in allen Industriestaaten, vielleicht sogar weltweit, wird dann RB nur mit 25% wachsen können, wie die GoingPublic vermutet?

Übrigens in Japan hat man eine wichtige Erkenntnis im Zusammenhang mit Inferphereon und der Bekämpfung von Hepatitis-C entdeckt. Ich muß noch evaluieren, wie sich das für RB auswirken könnte.

Hier geht es, wenn ich dich richtig verstehe, eher darum, OB und DASS eine generelle Impfung in den genannten Staaten eingeführt wird, und weniger, WANN sie den Säuglingen appliziert wird.

PS: Wie es in D ausschaut, kann ich aus dem stegreif nicht sagen! Allerdings stellt sich die Frage bei mir bald recht aktuell, dann sag ich´s euch!

Richtig Amok,

es darum, ob eine generelle Impfung eingeführt wird, bzw. Experten derartiges den Behörden nahelegen.

Heutzutage wird eine Impfung erst in späteren Jahren durchgeführt und muß z.B. in Deutschland vom Patienten selber bezahlt werden. Ich glaube die Impfung kostet irgendwas um die 300 DM.

Besser wäre es natürlich für RB, alle Babies am besten weltweit würden würden generell die Impfung bekommen.

Jetzt kann man mal spaßeshalber rechnen, welches Umsatzvolumen, und vor allem welches Gewinnvolumen, das bedeuten könnte, wenn RB einen Marktanteil von ca. 25% hat.
