HP and U.S. Wireless Form Strategic Alliance to Create Network Operating Centers for First Nationwide Mobile Location Network
HP to Provide Financing and E-services Infrastructure Support
PALO ALTO, Calif., and SAN RAMON, Calif., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP - news) and U.S. Wireless Corp., (Nasdaq: USWC; Frankfurt: USP), a leading integrated provider of wireless location technology, today announced a strategic business alliance to create network operating and data processing centers for U.S. Wireless` planned wireless location network. The network will be capable of pinpointing the location of cellular users in 911 emergency situations and enable users to access traffic and driver information services as well as commercial applications such as navigation assistance.

``HP will provide $7 million in financing and up to $45 million in additional financing, based on U.S. Wireless meeting certain requirements,`` said Craig White, president of HP Credit Corporation. ``HP will bring to bear its always-on Internet infrastructure and e-services expertise to help U.S. Wireless design and build its operating centers and will also provide ongoing marketing and development support for the initial phase of the company`s planned 100-market deployment.``

``Wireless location services is a burgeoning marketplace, and HP e-services expertise and always-on Internet infrastructure are key in making it happen,`` said Dave Scantling, general manager for HP`s E-Services. Solutions. ``HP will work closely with U.S. Wireless to design and implement U.S. Wireless`s e- services infrastructure.`` U.S. Wireless will draw on HP`s e-services infrastructure support to build its new network operating centers which will be located in Reston, Va. and San Ramon, Calif. By designing mission-critical data centers, HP will work with U.S. Wireless to ensure that necessary software, equipment and services are deployed at both network operating centers.

``This strategic alliance enables us to leverage HP`s expertise and reputation in building our mission critical data centers, which are possibly the most important part of our location network services platform,`` said Oliver Hilsenrath, chairman and chief executive officer of U.S. Wireless. ``HP is providing us with a turnkey service including design, software, equipment and consulting, as well financing support.``

HP will apply its always-on Internet infrastructure and e-services knowledge to U.S. Wireless. The relationship will allow U.S. Wireless to assure its customers of the stability, reliability and flawless execution of its operating platform. Additionally, HP becomes one of U.S. Wireless` integral technology associates by providing HP hardware products necessary to support the future growth in the company`s development of next generation instant wireless services.

Das mcht doch nichts,jetzt haben wir halt zwei brauchbare Threads.
Wennigstens bist Du ehrlich und weißt Du was:Ich bin auch einmal
so angefangen,wie Du.Es gibt wenige Menschen an der Börse,die einem
etwas weitervermitteln.Jeder will seine hart erarbeiteten Infos und
Quellen für sich behalten.Ich selber habe aber im Hauptthread schon
öfters Quellen publiziert.Alles gebe ich natürlich auch nicht weiter.
Wichtig ist,das Du von der Aktie persönlich fest überzeugt bist,
das ist schon mal ein guter Anfang und achte auf meine Worte oben.
USW macht uns auch heute wieder richtig Spaß!Sie hat wirklich ein
Riesenpotential,wenn alles einiger Maßen läuft.

Hallo Leyk ist ein toller Tread den Du da eröffnest hast.Ist für die Neueinsteiger auch ne tolle Sache mit
den Grafiken und Deine mahnenden Worte.
Übrigens heute ca.18.30 Uhr war auf CNBC ,OLIVER HILSENRATH von USW im Interview.
Habe leider nur den Schluss mitbekommen.Wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe sagte er sehe äusserst
positiv in Zukunft von US WIRELESS.Und HP wird schon wissen warum sie sich USW ausgesucht zur
Zusammenarbeit haben.Hoffe nur seine Steaks zahlt er selbst,den es war schon ein kerniges Kerlchen.

FCC EASES E-911 HANDSET ROLL-OUT, STICKS TO 2001 DEADLINE

Sep. 20, 2000 (Global Positioning & Navigation News, Vol. 10, No. 19 via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) responded this month to previous complaints by wireless carriers and handset makers about the deadlines for achieving precise location of wireless emergency E-911 callers. FCC gave carriers with GPS-based handset solutions another 12 months to achieve full market penetration. Carriers also got an extra six weeks upfront to declare their technology choice. The agency made some changes in the GPS handset deployment schedule, but stuck to its Oct. 1, 2001, initial implementation deadline for both handset and network solutions.

The FCC move "opens a slightly larger window for GPS in handsets," says Andrew Rimkus, vice president of marketing with Integrated Data Communications (IDC), which has developed GPS-based wireless location solutions. Nevertheless, some commercial GPS-based products will be available before Oct. 1, 2001, he predicts. IDC is working with AAA`s telematics unit, Response Services, to support GPS-assisted mobile phones by early next year (GPNN, Aug. 9, 2000).

Qualcomm [QCOM], meanwhile, says it`s confident that phones with its integrated MSM3300 GPS/CDMA solution will be coming to market soon. KDDI, the second-largest wireless carrier in Japan, has required its suppliers to use the MSM3300 for position location, the company says. Qualcomm expects GPS-enabled handsets to hit the Japanese market next spring. Based on past experience, similar handsets should appear in the U.S. market by next summer, Qualcomm representatives say. The company has not disclosed any deals with U.S. carriers. The MSM3300 is to ship in commercial volumes by Q4 of this year.

"Because all the carriers are saying they need more time to make a decision," FCC necessarily has to let them proceed at their chosen pace, says Elliott Hamilton, senior vice president of Strategis Group, a market research firm in Washington, D.C. "But the [Oct. 1, 2001] deadline is seriously in question." The decision is indicative of the complexity of the issue, he says.

Although the GPS side got a break, it`s not time for them to celebrate, says Oliver Hilsenrath, chairman and CEO of U.S. Wireless [USWC, USP], which provides a network-based location solution. "The fact that the GPS community is slowing the availability of their solution is only going to reduce their market share." This is a "narrowing of the window of opportunity for those handsets."

FCC`s basic adherence to its existing schedule will speed up things on the handset side, says analyst Clem Driscoll, president of C.J. Driscoll Associates, Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. "There has been a momentum shift toward networks over the last 12 months, as handset-based solutions have dragged along," he says. But if GPS phones get out to the market and provide the necessary performance and services at an acceptable cost, they`ll be very successful, regardless of network solutions, he says.

The new FCC order also granted GSM-standard carrier VoiceStream - which is using a hybrid solution - two years` grace on reaching handset-required accuracy levels of 50 meters (67 percent of the time) and 150 meters (95 percent of the time). Two commissioners disagreed with the VoiceStream decision, although mainly on administrative grounds. Qualcomm has opposed granting a waiver to VoiceStream. "The FCC conclusion that there is no viable wireless solution for location in the GSM market is incorrect," Qualcomm representatives say. In fact, Qualcomm and its SnapTrack unit have demonstrated GSM-based location technology in Europe and the U.S., they say.

The agency also eliminated the separate, and possibly more aggressive, set of deadlines for handset-based solutions, originally to be triggered by a public safety request for service.

E-911 Deadlines Shift

* Nov. 9, 2000: Carriers choose handset or network location technology. Extended from Oct. 1, 2000.
* Oct. 1, 2001: Carriers begin selling, activating ALI*-capable handsets. Extended from March 1, 2001.
* Dec. 31, 2001: 25 percent of all new handsets activated are to be ALI- capable.
* June 30, 2002: 50 percent all new handsets, ALI-capable. Extended from Oct. 1, 2001.
* Dec. 31, 2002: All new digital handsets, ALI-capable. Extended from Oct. 1, 2002.
* Dec. 31, 2005: Carriers to reach full penetration of subscriber bases with ALI-capable handsets. Extended from Dec. 31, 2004.

Heute ist wahrscheinlich eine der letzten Korrekturen, die US Wireless erlebt. Im November gibt
es die Entscheidung, ob US Wireless zum Zug kommt bei den Telefongesellschaften. Ich gehe
davon aus, daß diese Woche die 18 euro noch geknackt werden, auch wenn es heute noch einmal
kräftig runter gingt. Eine Meldung und die Aktie kann locker 30 % nach oben schießen. Ich glaube daran,
daß US wireless das Rennen machen wird.

Global Technologies gehen seit Tagen in den Keller. Ich habe gedacht,
daß sie aufgrund der Beteiligung an US Wireless auch von der Spekulation
auf den 09.Nov. profitieren.

Vielleicht sind die Vergabe der Ortungsverträge am 9.11.2000 und
Global Technologies, sowie die Beteiligung an US Wireless noch nicht
so bekannt.
Ich kann mich in Deutschland nur an einen kurzen Aktiencheck in der
Euro am Sonntag ( vor ca. 5-6 Wochen) erinnern. Als Analystenstimme
ist mir nur die von I/B/E/S bekannt, die USWC auf "Strong buy" gesetzt
haben.Zu Global Technologies habe ich keine Analysten gehört.
