Silex Acquires Rights to New Semiconductor Technology

The Board is pleased to announce the acquisition of world-wide Patent rights relating to a promising new semiconductor invention which could lead to significant improvements in today’s silicon-based microprocessor and semiconductor technology.


The invention, called the "Silicon Isotope Superlattice" (SIS), must be manufactured from high purity isotopically enriched silicon, a material not readily available, but which the company expects to produce using its proprietary laser-based SILEX technology, currently under development.


The Silicon Isotope Superlattice potentially enables silicon to perform in high frequency and opto-electronic applications by significantly increasing its electronic response or mobility. This could result in the operating speeds of silicon-based computer chips and semiconductor devices increasing from today’s limit of approximately 1GHz to potentially 100GHz or more, in a relatively short space of time. If successfully developed, SIS technology could then find widespread use in the rapidly expanding communications and fibre-optic applications.


Silex acquired the Patent rights by assignment from the Inventor, Professor Kohei Itoh, and Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. The technology rights have been secured for a nominal up front consideration (cash, shares and options) to Keio University and Professor Itoh. Further amounts will be paid upon successful commercialization of the technology (as defined in the confidential agreements).

With the explosive growth of the Internet and the move toward information-based economies, we see tremendous potential in this opportunity."


Professor Itoh, leader of the Advanced Semiconductor Materials Group at Keio University, is a pioneer in the field of isotopically engineered semiconductors, and operates state-of-the-art semiconductor research facilities in the Group’s Tokyo laboratories. Recently the Group successfully achieved one of the world’s first known laboratory demonstrations of the invention in germanium isotope superlattices. Efforts are now underway to fabricate silicon isotope superlattices and demonstrate the effect for silicon, the material of choice for commercial development.


The Keio Advanced Semiconductor Materials Group is one of only two groups known to be active in this exciting field. Silex is also in discussions with the second group, based in the USA, with a view to consolidating all the Intellectual Property and development efforts under one umbrella. In the meantime, Silex is planning an integrated development program with the intention of accelerating potential commercialization of SIS semiconductor technology.

Das Silicon das dafür benutzt wird kommt demnächst in die Massenfertigung. Zusätzlich hat SIlex weitere Chancen wie Lizenzgebühren von 100 Mio$ im Jahr durch neue Uran-anreicherungstechnologie.
Die Firma hat meiner Meinung möglicherweise gewaltige Aussichten.

Ach ja:
Silex entwickelt dank der neuen Technik auch viele verschiedene Isotope die in Medizin Krebserkennung usw angewendet werden.
Hinzu kommt das neue SI-28 Isotop, das für Quantencomputer und die neue Technik für 100x schnellere Prozessoren benötigt wird.

ich halte das zwar für hochspekulativ, aber Die Forscher reden ja immer davon, dass irgendwann die normale Technik ausgereizt ist und neu Technologie her muss.
Es gibt auch Untersucheungen, dass SI-28 schon in wenigen Jahren zum Standard gehört und für alle Wafer der Welt benutzt wird, da es viele Vorteile birgt.

von Dir gestossen. Ich kenne Dich auch sehr gut vom
Rambus-Board.

Ich finde das mit Silex ganz interesant,
und wollte Dich mal fragen, ob DU selbst
auch da investierst?? Dann würd ich auch rein-
gehen...

Ich glaube die wird bei uns gar nicht gehandelt.
Hast Du zufällig die 6-stellige US-WKN ??

Mit dem Einstieg ist das da so ne Sache:
Das ist ne australische Firma und wird daher selbst in USA an der Nasdaq so gut wie nicht gehandelt (in den letzten 2 Monaten kein einziger Handel zustandegekommen)

Wenn ich leicht reinkommen könnte würde ich einsteigen, denn die Perspektiven scheinen sehr gut:

derzeit knapp 190 Mio Marktkapitalisierung (glaube ich)
und allein mit einem Aggreement mit der USEC dürften ab 2003 jährlich 100 Mio$ Lizenzeinnahmen kommen.
zusätzlich soll in den Zirkonium-Markt eingestiegen werden, der auch nochmals 100 Mio$ p.a. liefern soll und wenn ein Einstieg in den Halbleiter-Markt mit Silizium geschafft wird ist das Potential sogar noch weitaus grösser so bis 1 Mrd.$ Umsatz.

Kannst dir auch mal dazu den Thread zu "Isonics" anschauen hier im Board.

Ich glaube aber derzeit noch nicht an schnelle Steigerungen, weil weitere News noch auf sich warten lassen könnten und das Projekt mit der USEC erst ab 2003 startet.

Man sollte sich die Aktie also vielleicht für Ende 2001 mal vormerken und zwischendurch beobachten.

zumindest muss man keine Hektik machen da noch viel Entwicklungszeit gebraucht wird.

Isonics ist da schon etwas weiter vorangeschritten und wird in der nächsten Zeit wahrscheinlich mit mehreren Firmen Langfristverträge abschliessen.
