Pharmagene und Bayer unterzeichnen Krebsforschungsabkommen
LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Das britische Pharmaunternehmen Pharmagene PLC PGN.ISE PG9.FSE hat am Mittwoch in London bekannt gegeben, dass man auch im Bereich der Onkologie mit der deutschen Bayer AG BAY.ETR zusammen forschen will.

Laut Vereinbarung soll Bayer für die eigene Medikamentenforschung Einblick in Expertisen von Pharmagene über die menschliche Haut sowie in der Genforschung haben können. Konkret solle Pharmagene zunächst Gendaten von infizierten und nicht-infizierten Haut-Proben identifizieren, die es Bayer wiederum ermöglichten, anhand neun verschiedener Krebs-Arten neuartige, therapeutische Proteine und Anti-Körper zu bestimmen.

Pharmagene teilte weiter mit, dass sich das Projekt zwar auf ganz konkrete Punkte beziehe, doch es durchaus erweiterbar wäre. Nach Angaben von Bayer ist es bereits die dritte Zusammenarbeit seit Oktober 1999.
Zuletzt war vor einer Woche die gemeinsame Entwicklung von Medikamenten gegen Atemwegserkrankungen verkündet worden.

Bayer plc setzt auf Pharmagen Know-how

Die britische Bayer plc und Pharmagene plc (LSE: PGN) haben ein Wirkstoff-Entwicklungsabkommen auf dem Gebiet der respiratorischen Erkrankungen unterzeichnet. Danach wird Bayer Pharamgenes Know-How im Bereich „menschliches Gewebe“ nutzen, um die Validierung eigener Wirkstoff-Targets voranzutreiben. Nach Ansicht des britischen Bayer-Forschungschefs, Bill Taylor, stelle die Untersuchung der Genexpression im menschlichen Gewebe eine wichtige Basis dar, um aus der Entwicklungspipeline „die relevanten Medikamente herauszuselektieren“.

PGN) is pleased to announce the appointments of Tom
Foy as Executive Vice President of Operations and
John Murphy as General Counsel and Company
Secretary.

Tom Foy has 21 years experience in the
pharmaceutical industry and has joined Pharmagene from ASTA
Medica Ltd where he was General Manager and
responsible for all UK activities of the group.
Previously he has worked for companies, such as
Bristol-Myers, Rhone-Poulenc and The Liposome Company. He has
broad ranging commercial and general management
experience across a wide range of therapeutic and
geographical areas, with specific expertise in
niche, hospital markets.

John Murphy has also joined the Company. Most
recently he was Group Legal Advisor for the Celltech
Group and, prior to the merger with Celltech, he
was Company Secretary and Group Legal Advisor for
Medeva plc. John has many years experience in
pharmaceutical legal matters, with a particular focus on
intellectual property and corporate and
commercial fields, both in private practice and in
industry.

publish its half year results on 4 September 2001. In
line with previous statements Pharmagene continues
to move to diversify its revenue base. It is in
discussions with a number of parties about
subscriptions to its TargetEvaluatorTM programme with
trading in the year to date underpinning expectations
for the full year.
