China bonded copper stockpiles fall about 50pct - Glencore

Bloomberg quoted Glencore International Plc said copper stockpiles in bonded warehouses in China, the world largest user of the metal have dropped about 50% this year, adding to signs that demand is strong.

Baar Switzerland-based Glencore said in an earnings statement the decline partly reflects tighter financing conditions facing various market participants. Copper has dropped 6.2% this year on speculation global growth is slowing, curbing demand for metals.

Glencore said “Adjusting apparent demand for the significant inventory drawdowns we have seen in China during the first half 2011 one can conclude that real demand has been and continues to be strong.”

There are mounting risks to supply, particularly in the copper concentrate market.

The company said in the statement Glencore sold 17% less copper metal and concentrates in the first half than a year earlier. While demand for industrial metals in the US and Europe was constrained by limited supply growth, German usage was particularly strong mainly because of stronger export demand.

Mr Ivan Glasenberg CEO said Glencore said “We now do see more buying existing in China which should hopefully lead to the stronger second half of 2011. While the first half of last year was extremely robust because of zinc and copper restocking, we do not see the same restocking situation in the first half of 2011.”

Glencore said premiums buyers are prepared to pay for aluminum are being supported by inventory financing transactions and logistics bottlenecks. The company said it will stay focused on warehousing activities.

Glencore first half alumina and aluminum sales rose about 16% to 6.5 million tonnes.

Hallo Videomart,

vielen Dank für deinen Hinweis im Minara-Thread! Die Übernahme-Story hat für mich nach den Erfahrungen mit Minara eine erhöhte Wahrscheinlichkeit. Genau wie dort besitzt man gute 70% und kauft an der Börse kontinuierlich in kleineren Mengen hinzu. Ich habe mich am Freitag mit einem mittleren 5-stelligen Betrag über die Börse Toronto eingekauft (In D ja nur minimalste Umsätze!). Mein kurzfristiges Kursziel sind 1,80 CAD.
Wenn es interessiert: Meine sonstigen Favoriten sind OceanaGold, Barrick, Kingsgate, Merrex, Auzex und noch Minara, wo ich auf einen letztendlichen Übernahmekurs von 1,00 AUD setze.

Naja, bei dieser Aktie weiss man nie!!

Allerdings hat Glencore zuletzt 8,3 Millionen Shares für durchschnittlich mehr als 1,50 Cad pro Stück gekauft. Unter diesem Wert wird der Kurs meiner Meinung nach nicht lange bleiben, ausser der Kupferpreis und/oder der Markt bricht erneut ein...

Copper strengthens on supply concerns

Copper prices firmed on Tuesday, as worries over a global economic slowdown faded on positive US data, and investors focused on expectations of tighter supply.

Copper for three month delivery on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.78 per cent to $9,140 per tonne in London midday trading as investors moved to cover short positions.

Gayle Berry, base metals analyst at Barclays Capital, said data indicating strong fundamentals for copper had prompted a relief rally. With some of the macro economic concerns fading, investors were focused on lower production figures and lower inventories in China, she said. Prices firmed last week after inventory data in Shanghai showed declines in every metal.

Data showing Peruvian production of copper and zinc falling in July due to lower ore grades at key mines and the continuing labour dispute and the threat of a strike at Indonesia’s Freeport-McMoRan’s Grasberg mine, a key mine on a mountaintop in Indonesia, has also added upward pressure on copper prices. The eight-day strike in July at Grasberg led to a production loss of 35m pounds of copper and 60,000 ounces of gold

With bad weather conditions and labour disputes, many analysts have already used much of their production allowances for 2011, which will force them to revise down their production forecasts.

Other industrial metals were also firm, with aluminium for three month delivery on the LME up 0.5 per cent to $2,392 a tonne and zinc up 1.47 per cent to $2,285.

Gold fluctuated around the $1,800 level, rising 1.37 per cent to $1811.49 a troy ounce, while crude oil eased on a higher dollar, with ICE October Brent, the benchmark oil price, down $0.32 to $11.56 and the Nymex September West Texas Intermediate $0.68 lower at $86.58.

Signifikante Kupferknappheit droht

Der Kupferpreis könnte in den nächsten drei bis fünf Jahren auf 5 oder sogar 6 US-Dollar pro Pfund steigen, da der Weltwirtschaft ein Angebotsdefizit droht. Davon ist John Shanahan, CEO der kanadischen Revett Minerals fest überzeugt.

Shanahan ist der Ansicht, dass dem Kupfermarkt in den kommenden drei bis fünf Jahren eine „signifikante" Verknappung auf
der Angebotsseite bevorsteht. Sollte es dann auch noch kurzfristige Unterbrechungen der Lieferkette geben, wie zum Beispiel Streiks gegen die Privatisierung staatlicher Kupferminen (in letzter Zeit keine Seltenheit), werde man Preisausschläge nach oben sehen, wie die Welt sie bislang noch nicht gesehen habe.

Das rote Metall, dass beispielsweise in Kabeln und Rohren verwendet wird, wurde am Freitag mit 4,10 USD pro Pfund gehandelt. Anfang des Jahres erreichte der Kupferpreis ein Hoch von 4,50 USD pro Pfund bevor die Industriemetallpreise auf Grund der Herunterstufung der Kreditwürdigkeit der USA im August einbrachen.

Shanahan erklärte, dass die Nachfrage aus neuen Industriezweigen wie Windturbinen und Elektromobilen zum Wachstum der Kupfernachfrage beitragen würden. Vor allem der Aufstieg der Wirtschaften Chinas und Indiens werde das Nachfragewachstum antreiben. Kupfer werde weltweit mit einer hohen Rate verbraucht und sei wieder zum „Metall des Lebens" geworden, so der Revett-CEO.

"Things were anything but rosy for the red metal. Copper gets pounded hard right along with equity markets. We’ve expected a pullback even before major markets crashed. The speed of the downside move was impressive and it looks like a lot of longs have exited the market. The copper price is getting closer to reasonable but if markets fall harder copper will fall with them. We see no point in getting brave about copper equities until the markets sort themselves. The same holds for other base metals."

Erneute Streiks in Kupferminen

In China sind die Eisenerzimporte laut Daten der Zollbehörde im August gegenüber dem Vormonat um 8,3% auf 59,1 Mio. Tonnen gestiegen. Dies ist auf die hohe Stahlproduktion sowie auf ein Auffüllen der Lagerbestände bei den Stahlherstellern zurückzuführen. Das Reich der Mitte hat in den ersten acht Monaten des Jahres insgesamt 447,6 Mio. Tonnen Eisenerz importiert, 10,6% mehr als im Vorjahr. Die hohen Importaktivitäten spiegeln sich auch im Baltic Dry Index wider, der die Frachtraten für Schüttguttransporte misst und von seinem temporären Tief im August mittlerweile um über 50% gestiegen ist.

Gemäß Daten des Nationalen Statistikbüros war die chinesische Stahlproduktion im August mit 58,75 Mio. Tonnen fast 14% höher als im Vorjahr. Der Verband der chinesischen Eisen- und Stahlindustrie erwartet, dass im Reich der Mitte in diesem Jahr bis zu 710 Mio. Tonnen Stahl hergestellt werden. Dies bedeutet, dass die Nachfrage nach Eisenerz und damit die Importe im weiteren Jahresverlauf sehr robust bleiben sollten. Der Eisenerzpreis dürfte sich daher auf dem aktuellen Niveau von knapp 180 USD je Tonne gut behaupten können.

Ab heute werden die Grasberg-Mine in Indonesien und die Cerro Verde-Mine in Peru, zwei der weltweit größten Kupferminen, bestreikt. Die Angebotssituation am globalen Kupfermarkt - das Research-Institut Brook Hunt erwartet ein Defizit von 351 Tsd. Tonnen in diesem Jahr - dürfte sich dadurch weiter zuspitzen, was den Kupferpreis mittelfristig unterstützen sollte.

Katanga Announces Notice of Redemption of 14% Notes

ZUG, SWITZERLAND, Nov. 22, 2011 /CNW/ - Katanga Mining Limited (TSX: KAT; KAT.NT) ("Katanga" or the "Company") today announced that it has delivered notice to Equity Financial Trust Company (formerly Equity Transfer & Trust Company) (the "Trustee") that it is exercising its right to redeem, on December 30, 2011 (the "Redemption Date"), all of its then outstanding 14% unsecured subordinated notes due November 20, 2013 (the "Notes") at a redemption price equal to 100% of the principal amount of Notes outstanding (including, as previously announced, the interest payable from November 20, 2006 to June 30, 2007, which was capitalized) plus all accrued but unpaid interest up to but excluding the Redemption Date. The redemption is subject to the prior receipt and drawdown of the term loan facility by the Company previously announced on November 11, 2011 and is being completed pursuant to the trust indenture dated as of November 20, 2006 between Katanga and the Trustee.

On and after the Redemption Date, the Notes will no longer be outstanding, interest thereon will cease to accrue and all rights of the holder of the Notes will cease to exist, except for the right to receive the redemption price.

The notice of redemption will be sent by the Trustee to registered holders today. Notes are to be surrendered to the Trustee in exchange for payment of the redemption price.

Katanga Announces Execution of Loan Facilities and Redemption of Notes is Unconditional

ZUG, SWITZERLAND, December 19, 2011 – Katanga Mining Limited (TSX: KAT; KAT.NT) ("Katanga" or the "Company") today announced the execution of two loan facilities with a total available borrowing of US$635.5 million (the "Facilities"), previously announced on November 11, 2011 as a commitment from Glencore International AG ("Glencore"). As a result of the execution of the Facilities, all conditions precedent to the redemption of the Notes (as defined below) have been satisfied. Accordingly, the redemption is now unconditional and will be completed on Friday, December 30, 2011.

The first of the Facilities is for up to US$120 million pursuant to a term loan facility agreement (the "Term Loan") between, among others, Katanga, as borrower, and the Glencore Group, as lender, to fund in substantial part the redemption of Katanga's outstanding Cdn$125 million 14% debentures due November 30, 2013 (the "Notes") in accordance with the provisions of Katanga's trust indenture dated November 20, 2006. The Term Loan will be drawn in full on December 30, 2011 to redeem the Notes.

The second of the Facilities is for up to US$515.5 million pursuant to a senior secured credit facility agreement (the "Senior Facility") between, among others, a Katanga subsidiary, as borrower, Katanga and other Katanga subsidiaries as guarantors, and the Glencore Group, as lender.

The Senior Facility will fund the previously announced Updated Phase 4 Expansion of Katanga's copper cobalt project not covered by the Company's cash flows. The Senior Facility will not be drawn until the conditions precedent have been satisfied, which include, among other things, the redemption of the Notes and the granting and registration of the security for the Senior Facility. Further details of the Facilities were set out in Katanga's November 11, 2011 news release.

Hi Oletta, Ich bin auch noch drin - leider. Ziemlich heftig in den Miesen.
hier übrigens der link zum H1 / Q2 Report.
Ca. 1 Monat Produktionsausfall in Q2 wegen Energieausfall. Aber immer noch ordentliches Ergebnis für H1 und ganz guter Ausblick für Q3. Also bin immer noch optimistisch hier wieder auf EK zukommen. Werde wohl nochmal verbilligen.

Meines Erachtens gibt es hierfür keinen Grund.
Den Einbruch hat viele andere Aktien indiesem Bereich genauso erwischt.
Kann es sein, dass sie hier jetzt schwieriger zu handeln ist?
