Engle, presented an overview of the Company`s recently initiated Phase III clinical trial of its lupus drug candidate, LJP 394, at the UBS Warburg Global Life Sciences Conference in New York City. Mr. Engle reported that more than 10 clinical sites have been initiated and that the first patient has been dosed.
"We are pleased that the initiation of our Phase III clinical trial is proceeding on schedule," said Mr. Engle. "We plan to have more than 50 sites in North America enrolling patients by the end of the year and then expect to add about 15 more sites across Europe early next year."
La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company (LJP) is a San Diego-based biotechnology company developing therapeutics for antibody-mediated diseases, such as lupus and stroke, which afflict several million people in the United States and Europe. The Company is also developing drugs for antibody-mediated stroke, heart attack, and deep-vein thrombosis, for xenotransplantation, and for other antibody-mediated diseases. La Jolla Pharmaceutical`s drug candidates, known as Toleragensâ are designed to arrest the production of disease-causing antibodies without suppressing the healthy functions of the immune system. In five human clinical trials, its Tolerance Technologyâ platform has been shown to reduce targeted disease-causing antibodies in lupus patients. Ob da ein Zusammenhang besteht, weiß ich nicht. Auch die Meldung gibt nichts her, was man nicht schon wußte. Grundsätzlich ist der Fortschritt positiv zu werten. Bei einem günstigen Ausgang der Phase III wäre die aktuelle MK von 220M $ sicher bald Vergangenheit.

Vielleicht, weil sie`s für aussichtsreich halten...?
