US Wireless geht wieder Richtung Süden und das kurz vor der angeblichen
Entscheidung der Telefongesellschaft für das endgültige Ortungssystem. Was ist eure
Meinung zu der Aktie. Wer weiß, an welchem Tag die Entscheidung im November fällt?

geshortet-also leer verkäufe waren am 13. okt
über 6 mill aktien.

es kann also sein, dass wenn die jungs jetzt 6 mill
aktien zurückkaufen müssen, dass dann natürlich panik ausbricht.
denn ihr könnt auch vorstellen was passiert, wenn die anderen nicht
verkaufen wollen, das ding geht natürlich ab wie schmitz katze.
das wäre schön für euch,
ja wenns die NASD regulations nicht gebe.
die kann nun einfach den kurs aussetzen um den markt zu beruhigen.
also das ist eine interessante situation, in einer derart krassen
form, in einem so engen markt, habe ich das noch nie gesehen.
das muss verfolgt werden.
superkrimi- bleibt cool - es wird leichen geben, ihr werdet zu den überlebenden gehören.

Wer weiss von Euch, wo man am schnellsten erfährt, ob US Wireless
bei den Lizensvergaben zum Zuge gerkommen ist. Gibt es hier interessante Links,
wo man etwas über US Wireless erfährt? Hier auf Wallstreet Online ist es ja richtig
still um diese Aktie geworden und dass, kurz vor der Entscheidung. Der Kurs zieht kräftig an.
Das ist doch eigentlich ein gutes Zeichen.

Das sieht gut aus. Mit dem höchsten Kurs geschlossen. Bin schon gespannt wie es am Montag weitergeht.
Sollte an den Gerüchten etwas dran sein, wird der Kurs explodieren. Interessant ist, daß Global Technologies
sich übethaupt nicht bewegt. Irgend etwas muß da im Busch sein.

Nach meiner Meinung kann das nicht stimmen. Der Kurs von Gobal Tech. hat heute im Gegensatz
zu US Wireless wieder nicht zugelegt. Kann es sein, daß US Wireless vielleicht von United Techn.
übernommen wird und Global Tech. sein 30 % Anteil an US Wireless bereit vorher an United vescherbelt hat.
Dann müßte ein Übernahmeangebot für die frei handelbaren Aktien kommen.Deshalb steigt vielleicht auch
der Kurs von US Wireless und bei Global Tech. passiert nichts. Das ist zwar nur eine Theorie. Auf jeden Fall
würde ich nicht mehr auf Global Tech. setzten sondern eher auf US Wireless. Ich glauben nicht, daß
US Wireless am Donnerstag einbrechen wird. Ich denke die Ralley fängt erst an. Sollte es eine Weihnachts-
ralley geben sehen wir bald Kurse um die 50 oder 60 Eureo, wenn wir diese nicht schon noch in
diesem Monat sehen. Vielleicht ist abetr an dem ÜBernahmegerücht auch nichts dran. Bitte hat keiner einen
Beweis geliefert.

Sprint baut GPS-Chip in seine Handys

Mit Beginn des nächsten Jahres wird der US-Mobilfunkbetreiber Sprint PCS (Nyse: PCS) seine Handys mit einem GPS-Chip versehen. Diese Technologie ermöglicht es durch ein satellitengestütztes Ortungsverfahren die Position des Bedieners auf 30 Meter genau fast überall auf der Welt zu bestimmen. Damit erfüllt Sprint die Anforderungen eines Bundesmandats, das die Ortsbestimmung eines 911-Notrufs auf 50 Meter genau verlangt. Neben der Positionierung via Satellit besteht auch die Möglichkeit, eine Ortsbestimmung auf Grund des Abstands des Mobilfunknutzers zur nächstgelegenen Basisstation vorzunehmen. Diese Methode wird zum Beispiel vom Marktführer Verizon Wireless genutzt und unter anderem von der Firma US Wireless (Nasdaq: USWC) angeboten. Sprint hingegen wird sich Qualcomms (Nasdaq: QCOM) SnapTrack-Technologie zu Nutze machen, die einen GPS-Chip in Mobiltelefonen vorsieht.

Die Einführung der Bestimmbarkeit des Ortes bietet neben der Lokalisierung eines Notrufs noch weitere Einsatzmöglichkeiten. So können zum Beispiel aktuelle ortspezifische Informationen an den Nutzer übermittelt werden. Auch unter dem Marketingaspekt bietet ein positionierbares Telefon einige Vorteile. So könnte der nächste Schnellimbiss sein aktuelles Mittagsangebot auf das Display spielen oder das nächstgelegene Kaufhaus die neuesten Schnäppchenangebote.

Leider bringt technischer Fortschritt auch Nachteile mit sich. Manche Kunden könnten schnell ihre persönliche Freiheit eingeschränkt sehen, besonders, wenn Bedenken entstünden, dass sich Unbefugte Zugriff auf diese Nutzerinformationen verschaffen könnten. Wie dem auch sei, die Positionierbarkeit ist vorgeschrieben und wird von den Betreiberfirmen umgesetzt werden müssen. Für die Kunden bringt die neue Technik unterm Strich sicherlich Vorteile, besonders in Bezug auf die Notruffunktion. Profitieren werden mit Sicherheit aber die Anbieter der Ortsbestimmungstechnologie, seien es Qualcomm, US Wireless oder andere.

Die Chancen, daß Wireless noch einen dicken Fisch an Land zieht, werden wohl immer geringer.
Selbst die Amis halten Wireless für unintressant, ein AnaL yst sagt weiterhin ´Strong Buy´.
Also weiterhin, Hoffen und Bangen.
Nur was ich nicht verstehe, es wurde immer gesagt, wer GPS einsetzt, muß seine Handys größer bauen und durch die zusätzliche Technologie werden die Akkus stärker belastet, also eine nicht so hohe Stand By zeit.
Bei den 5 kleinen Anbietern, die sich nicht für Wireless entschieden haben, könnte ich ja noch verständnis haben, da GPS ja in Großflächigen Gebieten mit 50 Metern ja wohl ausreichend ist.
Aber bei Sprint,die auch in Großstädten ihre Kunden haben, kann ich das nicht nachvollziehen. Es muß also noch etwas geben, was wir hier noch nicht mitgekriegt haben.

They have almost all filed, what you need to do is either
A. GO to FCC.gov and click on search, then go to search for Filed comments and type in the fields comments on 11/09/2000 and the other box with two letters on it find RT and click search, and you can then download all 47 PDF files and look at them all, or

B. go to Yahoo and then go to USWC`s message board and read the last three days of posts and you can find out a lot there as well. We have discussed most of the majors and I will do a quick synopsis...

Verizon-Going to use a Network approach, out of three companies or will use a combination of all three..and the combination is probably going to happen, USWC, True Position and ALN. They realize that USWC thrives in Cities and the carrier will not have to add a heavy antenna to their existing cell tower like the other two vendors, but hte others will get the less dense urban environment where line of sight is not a problem so winner USWC and others but with USWC most likely picking up the most customers...IMHO

ATt&T-read above, and in their report they actually stated the tower issue as the most important part in deciding who to use in the places where towers can not be changed easily and where a system like Radio camera can thrive...

Western Wireless-Has only tested one solution and that is USWC-They are going to use a network approach and need a technology who uses only one tower-guess who USWC!! in the bag

Voicestream-PCS ONE-Hybrid solution, hard to tell but not out of the question

Qwest-Network solution not much details in report but they have tested with USWC!

Nextel, have not filed yet? Do not know whats up

Southwestern Bell-favorable comments about USWC`s type of technology and they will use a network approach, good chance

Sprint PCS-GPS-none ready but they are going with it...Good Luck to them!!!!

Conclusion-USWC will get Major players and especially the urban areas where the most cell phone users are!!!Other smaller carriers will go with USWC because they will have to because many of them are waiting to see what the bigger carriers are doing. ALN, True Position and USWC will all do well in this area with USWC doing the best!

hört sich ja vielversprechend an, wir sollten aber nicht vergessen, daß bis zum 1.10.2001 nur 40% aller Handys ortbar sein müssen.
Wie hoch ist also der Marktanteil der 6 Telefongesellschaften, die sich schon entschieden haben.
Wenn sich alle Gesellschaften abgesprochen haben, wer sich zuerst entscheiden muß, um den anderen noch Zeit zu verschaffen, können wir noch lange auf höhere Kurse hoffen. Machen die Mineralölkonzerne doch genauso, wenn sie höhere Preise durchsetzen wollen.
Ich bleibe weiterhin wachsam um wenigstens noch ein paar Prozente zu retten.

U.S. Wireless Technology Cited by Nation`s Largest Carriers As Potential Solution for Meeting Phase II of the FCC`s E-911 Mandate
SAN RAMON, Calif., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Wireless Corp. (Nasdaq: USWC; Frankfurt: USP) said today that nationwide carriers Verizon, Cingular and AT&T, as well as Western Wireless and others, serving a combined 58 million subscribers and covering more than 90% of the total population cited U.S. Wireless or its multipath pattern matching technology as a potential solution for meeting the Federal Communications Commission`s wireless Enhanced 911 (E-911) Phase II Automatic Location Identification requirements.

Phase II Wireless E-911 caller location technologies are expected to dramatically enhance the safety of the more than 100 million people owning wireless telephones in the United States today. To accelerate its deployment, the FCC has required that all wireless carriers implement Phase II location technologies beginning October 2001. U.S. Wireless Corporation Reports Second Quarter Results
SAN RAMON, Calif., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Wireless Corporation (Nasdaq: USWC; Frankfurt: USP), a provider of location and traffic information, today reported financial results for its fiscal 2001 second-quarter, ended September 31, 2000.

Ongoing investment and deployment of the Company`s location network in multiple markets across the U.S. and increases in staffing principally accounts for the net loss attributable to common stockholders for the quarter, which was in line with Company expectations. U.S. Wireless reported revenue of $72,220 for the fiscal 2001 second-quarter, compared to no revenue for the comparable prior year period. Net losses attributable to common shares for the fiscal 2001 second-quarter was $5.4 million or $0.28 per share, compared to $2.1 million or $0.17 per share, for the same period in fiscal 2000. Weighted average common shares outstanding for the fiscal 2001 second-quarter were 19,629,913 compared to 12,283,898 for the prior year period. The increase in common shares outstanding included the conversion of Series A Preferred stock and Series B Preferred stock into common shares earlier in the year.

Second Quarter Highlights
-- U.S. Wireless and Hewlett-Packard formed a strategic alliance to create
network operations centers for the Company`s nationwide mobile location
and traffic information network. HP is providing the Company with a
turnkey service including design, software, equipment and consulting,
as well financing support including $7 million upfront in vendor
financing and up to $45 million in additional financing to support the
Company`s planned national deployment.
-- U.S. Wireless was selected by PB Farradyne, a leading transportation
consultancy to provide live traffic and congestion information for
motorists in the greater San Francisco Bay area, as part of the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission`s TravInfo program.
U.S. Wireless will provide the TravInfo program with critical traffic
speed and congestion data on major roads and expressways in the greater
Bay Area.
-- U.S. Wireless was selected by Iteris, Inc., a leading supplier of
traveler information systems, to provide traffic and congestion
information in San Diego as part of San Diego`s Advanced Traveler
Information System, commissioned by the San Diego Association of
Governments (SANDAG).

Televigation, a provider of personal real-time mobile phone navigation
services. Through this relationship the Company hopes to enable the
delivery of turn-by-turn navigation assistance to users of unmodified
mobile phones, and foster increased usage of U.S. Wireless` location

-- During the quarter, U.S. Wireless Corporation was listed on Russell
2000® and Russell 3000® Stock Market Indexes. Inclusion in the

Additionally, in October 2000 the Company entered into an agreement with CUE Corp., a nationwide data network that distributes real-time traffic information in major markets in North America. U.S. Wireless will provide CUE with advanced speed and traffic congestion data, which it plans to distribute to its customers in the top U.S. traffic markets. The agreement will allow CUE to add live speed and traffic congestion data to its current service, which until now has been limited to location and incident data, displayed by data text or icons on maps. Live speed and congestion data will give drivers more meaningful and actionable traffic information to improve their overall driving experience.

Second Quarter Results

Consolidated operating revenues were $72,220 and $175,347 for the three and six-months ended September 30, 2000, compared to no revenues for the prior year. The increase in operating revenue is attributable to a contract the Company received from Maryland`s Department of Transportation to provide location enhanced traffic information along the Maryland Beltway. The Company also received a contract from the Virginia Department of Transportation, which did not contribute revenues during the quarter.

Costs and expenses of operations, excluding research and development expenses, totaled $3.0 million and $5.2 million for the three and six-month periods ended September 30, 2000, compared to total costs and expenses of operations of $.5 million and $1.6 million for the three and six-month period for the prior year. Increased operating expenses were primarily attributable to an increase in staff and related compensation costs as well as increased field trial activities and the commencement of an Operational Readiness Trial in the Maryland/Washington DC/Virginia Metro area, where the Company built additional sites to expand coverage and where it has established an east coast corporate office in Reston, Virginia. Expenses were also incurred for the continued refinement, testing and deployment of the RadioCamera(TM) system.

Research and development expenses totaled $2.5 million and $3.6 million for the three and six-month periods ended September 30, 2000 as compared to $.7 million and $1.5 million for the three and six-month periods in the prior year. The increase is primarily the result of increased personnel, consulting and other costs related to software and hardware development projects, and initial development costs associated with the Company`s planned network operating centers.

Net losses attributable to common shares for the three and six-month period ended September 30, 2000 were $5.4 million or $0.28 per share and $8.6 million or $0.44 per share, compared to $2.1 million or $0.17 per share and $4.8 million or $0.40 per share, respectively, for the same period in the prior year.

As of September 30, 2000, the Company had working capital of $25.2 million and cash and cash equivalents of $28.0 million. Such amounts resulted primarily from sales of our securities in our June 2000 private placement offering of Series C Preferred Stock in which we raised net proceeds of approximately $21.1 million. Additional funds were also generated near the end of September 2000 as the result of a $7 million promissory note with Hewlett-Packard Credit Corporation. HP will be assisting the Company with the engineering and installation of national and regional network operations centers and has also agreed to provide U.S. Wireless with up to $45 million in additional funding to support its national deployment, upon meeting certain criteria.

Through the deployment of a national location services platform, U.S. Wireless will provide mobile location and traffic related information to wireless carriers, Internet providers, public safety, and transportation/telematics companies. The Company is building a national location network, based on its award-winning RadioCamera(TM) pattern matching positioning technology, which pinpoints the location of cellular callers to enable the delivery of mobile services, including life saving emergency 911 caller location, live traffic and traveler information, navigation assistance, localized directory assistance, and vehicle and asset tracking. und schaut euch auch mal andere Aktien,was die verprügelt

Fazit die Wirtschaft verlangsamt und USWC ist in einem
doch jetzt rasant wachsendem Markt Nr.1.
Wenn die Nasdaqe dreht,werden Institutionelle hier
eher investieren,da hier Zukunft pur gehandelt wird!!
So jetzt zu:
....U.S.Wireless (USWC, ) hat die vergangenen Monate genutzt, Beachtliches zu leisten, um das Unternehmen als ein Top-Player bei der Ortung von Handys zu positionieren. Allein die Notruffunktion e911 und deren Umsetzung bis Oktober 2001 müsste die Aktie demnächst explodieren lassen, da führenden Carrier auf dieses Netzwerk-basierende System im Gegensatz zum Handset-basierenden (handset-based) setzen. In einem Filing per Deadline 9.11.00 haben Verizon, AT & T Wireless, Western Wireless und Cingular (SBC & BellSouth) das Netzwerk-basierende ausgewählt, was eindeutig in die Richtung von U.S.Wireless und deren Partnern geht. Diese Grundsatzentscheidung ist als Startschuss zu sehen, da nun die Aufträge zur Umsetzung kommen müssen. Von den circa 100 Mio-Handynutzern in den USA betrifft dies somit über 58 Mio, die auf Sicht von 1 – 1 ½ Jahren von U.S.Wireless und Co. Dienstleistungen rund um den jeweiligen Standort des Handynutzers erhalten könnten; diverse andere Anwendungen wie WAP-Leistungen, Navigation u.a. sind da noch gar nicht einmal eingerechnet. Rein theoretisch bei US $ 0,75/Kunde/Monat damit ein Bruttoumsatzpotential von gut US $ 350 Mio ! Daß die Aktie stark eingebrochen ist, liegt eindeutig nicht am Unternehmen selbst, sondern an der schwachen Verfassung der Nasdaq bedingt durch die Präsidentschaftswahlen. U.S.Wireless hat eine starke Bilanz mit über US $ 28 Mio in Bargeld (keine Schulden) und diverse Zusagen von Hewlett Packard und American Tower, die ebenfalls gut sind für US $ 50 Mio-Plus. Und: Erwartet wird nun, dass eine von Lehman Brothers initierte Ausgabe von Anleihen erfolgt, um die Komplettfinanzierung des Aufbaus des Netzwerkes an RadioCamera-Systemen zu gewährleisten, um das Netzwerk an RadioCamera-Systemen amerikaweit innert 12 Monaten zu etablieren. Das Internet-Finanzportal TheStreet.com hat am 17.11.00 einen sehr guten Artikel über die Notruffunktion e911 publiziert. Der Autor rät, die Unternehmen genau zu beobachten, die die Umsetzung des FCC-Gesetzes betreiben werden = US Wireless, Allen Telecom, TruePosition u.a. Wenn nun konkrete Aufträge von AT & T & Co gegeben werden, dann wird die Börse dies in die Bewertung der glücklichen Gewinner einfliessen lassen müssen. Urteil: Aktuelle Kurse als Chance begreifen und das Investment auf Sicht von 6 – 12 Monaten einstufen. So unglaubwürdig es klingen mag; neue Höchstkurse sind nur eine Frage der Zeit, wenn das Unternehmen nur einen Teil dessen realisieren kann, was geplant ist. Zudem ist es geradezu unwahrscheinlich, dass sich Unternehmen, die sich viel von der lokalen Anbindung von Inhalten an das Handy (WAP u.a.) erwarten, sich an einem der Netzwerkbetreiber beteiligen könnten; also Microsoft, !Yahoo, AOL & Co als potentielle Großaktionäre von US Wireless & Co, denn deren Investment liesse ihre eigene Strategie sinnvoll ergänzen ! Starker spekulativer Kauf ! PS: US Wireless arbeitet zudem an der Entwicklung von Lösungen, die eigene Radiofrequenz-Technologie mit GSM und GPS mittels einer Chiptechnologie zu verbinden und auf anderen Weltmärkten (Asien & Europa) einzuführen !

US-Wireless habe mit der RadioCamera eine bahnbrechende Technologie zur Ortung von Handys entwickelt.Ab 2001 seien die US-Netzwerkbetreiber per Gesetz verpflichtet, aus Sicherheitsgründen die Handys zu orten. Ausschlaggebend für die Gesetzesnovelle seien die 83000 täglichen mobilen Notrufe in den USA. 2001 sollen es laut INFOTECH-REPORT 130000 sein... Der Geschäftsplan sehe vor, dass die Netzwerkbetreiber wie AT&T und andere 2 Dollar für diesen Service von Kunden pro Monat verlangen und US Wireless davon 0,50 bis 1,00 Dollar bekommt. Bei rund 130000 Millionen amerikanischen Handy-Nutzern im Jahr 2001 würden sich INFOTECH-REPORT zufolge ein jährliches Marktpotential von 1,17 Milliarden Dollar ergeben. Die Bruttogewinnmarge liege bei stolzen 50 Prozent. Daneben könnten noch viele andere Servicedienstleistungen angeboten werden, meinen die Wertpapierspezialisten.
Aus gut informierten Kreisen habe INFOTECH-REPORT erfahren, dass sich US Wireless in heißen Verhandlungen mit den größten US-Telekommunikationsunternehmen befinde. Man erwartet hier in Kürze weitere gute Meldungen.

ganz besonders leyk und sinfonie!

Als eher stiller aber sehr interessierter Beobachter möchte ich folgenden Eindruck kurz formulieren.

1. Technologie auf dem Gebiet mit führend,wenn nicht die
Führende.

2. Management verfolgt klare konsequente Strategie.
(neue Mitarbeiter mit hoher fachlicher Kompetenz)

3. Kursverlauf vor Hintergrund NASDAQ für mich nichts
außergewöhnliches.
(Werte der 2. Reihe oft sehr volatil,zumal auch Spitzen-
firmen der 1.Garnitur locker -40% und mehr erreichen)

Fazit: USWC ist hat das Zeug zu einem Global Player,
und ich bin davon überzeugt das es sich lohnt
durchzuhalten.

Bei diesen ,und vielleicht noch einmal fallenden
Kursen werde ich Nachkaufen.
Die Vergangenheit hat gezeigt wie schnell es
es nach Oben gehen kann.
Fundamental-wertspezifisch liegt der Trend ganz klar
im Plus.

Dies ist meine ganz persönliche Meinung auf Basis der
bekannten Fakten.

zustimmen. Auch ich bin froh, daß vor allem Leyk, sowie
mosq und Coker unentwegt ihre Infos ins Board stellen und
wir somit immer auf dem neuesten Stand von USWC sind. Ohne
diese Informationen wären wir doch sehr beunruhigt. Koopera-tion ist wirklich sehr wichtig! Eine rege Beteiligung auch

Zu US Wireless (USWC )

Dieses Unternehmen hat im Jahr 2000 alle Grundlagen geliefert, die für den Erfolg in 2001 sorgen werden. Hierzu zählen strategische Partner (Hewlett Packard, American Tower u.a.mit über US $ 70 Mio Zusagen) sowie der Ausbau des Top-Managements mit Personen, die über ausgezeichnete Branchenkenntnisse und Kontakte verfügen (zuletzt einen Top-Mann von Lucent), zudem u.a. technologisch U.S.Wireless eine gute Ergänzung darstellen. Das Unternehmen arbeitet zudem an Kooperationen wie mit Qualcomm, die darauf abzielen, neue Ortungstechnologien für Handys zu entwickeln, die GPS mit RF verbinden lassen. Zwar wird 2001 das Jahr für den grossangelegten flächendeckenden Einsatz der RadioCamera-Systeme speziell für die Notruffunktion e911, doch arbeitet US Wireless mit Hochdruck daran, andere Anwendungen wie für Verkehrleitsysteme und Navigtion wie auch Telematik zu installieren. Hier liegt der Bedarf in den USA bei den größten 50 Städten bei ca. 3500 – 5000 Systemen, während für die e911-Abdeckung 12 – 15.000 Systeme notwendig sind. Große Carrier wie , Verizon und andere mit zusammen ca. 60 Mio Mobilfunkkunden haben sich bereits für die Netzwerklösung entschieden (Deadline war der 9.11.2000); die konkrete Auftragsvergabe wird im Laufe des 1.Quartals erwartet, wobei sich US Wireless große Hoffnungen macht, hier in vorderster Front zu stehen und die Aufträge zu erhalten. Mit circa US $ 80 Mio Börsenbewertung liegt diese am unteren Ende, nachdem in 2000 das Unternehmen schon bis zu US $ 1 Mrd Wert war. Ein interessante Spekulation könnte in neuen Großaktionären zu sehen sein, die aus dem Bereich der Software-und Serviceunternehmen wie Microsoft stammen könnten; denn US Wireless schafft mit seinem Geschäftsmodell die Basis der unterschiedlichen Auswertung des Standortes eines Handys, sei es für Call-Center, die Portals, die Carrier, Unternehmen aus dem Bereich Telematik und Navigation aber auch den Verbraucher selbst. Nach Ansicht des Anlageberaters bei INVESTools, Jon Steinberg, der sich auf spezielle Unternehmenssituationen spezialisiert hat, weise das Unternehmen aber ein extrem attraktives Risiko-Chancen-Verhältnis auf. Das Unternehmen besitze immer noch ca. 28 Mio. $ an Bargeld, was für 5 Quartale ausreichen würde, plus weiterer 45 Mio. $, die von Partner Hewlett Pachard angeboten worden seien, um den amerikaweiten Ausbau seines Netzwerkes zu unterstützen.

Wireless Technology, Inc., a South Korean joint venture between U.S. Wireless Corp. (Nasdaq: USWC) and Anam Instruments, Inc., is in talks with Korean wireless carrier SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) to bring U.S. Wireless` radio camera locating system to the Korean market.

According to Wireless Technology, the memorandum of understanding between the companies came after they formed plans to jointly promote location-based services in Korea and to develop applications and services that utilize the radio camera system.

Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.

U.S. Wireless said SK Telecom provides wireless services to more than 15 million subscribers through its nationwide Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network.

Pinpointing Wireless Users

U.S. Wireless developed the technology, called "RadioCamera," to help carriers meet Phase II requirements of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission`s (FCC) E911 mandate. But the system`s uses are growing.

The network-based geolocation system zeroes in on callers using a pattern matching process. RadioCamera is highly effective in dense urban areas, where other location technologies have difficulty due to reliance on line-of-sight triangulation, according to U.S. Wireless.

In many of Korea`s densely populated urban areas, line-of-sight between a caller and multiple base stations is rare, making the radio camera system more effective, the company added.

The system does not require users to buy new handsets, and it needs just one point of reference to identify a caller`s location.

Because minimal infrastructure is needed, carriers are lured by the economics, since competing triangulation technologies are more expensive, the company said.

More than Emergencies

RadioCamera offers personalized, location-based mobile services -- including navigational and roadside assistance -- and location-based directory searches.

In addition, the system can generate live traffic and congestion maps, enabling telematics and transportation applications like travel advisories and best alternative route selection, the company said.

San Ramon, California-based U.S. Wireless said it is building a national location network based on RadioCamera.
