All die kostenlosen Firewalls kannst Du getrost vergessen.

Wüßte daher gerne, wie gut oder schlecht das Ding ist ....

die Frage kann ich nicht beantworten, habe kein XP. Versuchs mal unter heise.de, da werden solche Themen
ausführlicher diskutiert, vielleicht findest du da etwas.

Wer auf seinem Rechner mit Windows-XP das von Microsoft angebotene automatische Update aktiviert hat, wird regelmäßig und rechtzeitig mit den neuesten Sicherheits-Patches versorgt.
Auf meinem Rechner wurde der Patch, der die Installation des Blaster-Wurmes verhindern sollte, ohne mein Zutun bereits am 20. Juli 2003 installiert.

Für einen einzelnen Privat-PC reicht Zone Alarm völlig aus.
Das Norton Paket halte ich dagegen für Schrott.

Beste Lösung ist aber eine externe Hardware-Firewall mit NAT (IP-Masquerading) wie sie in fast allen DSL-Routern eingebaut ist (z.B. LANCOM Systems) oder mit absolut professionellem Niveau eine NetScreen Firewall. Mit solch einem Router können auch mehrere PCs gleichzeitig ins Netz und auf den PCs muss keinerlei Software installiert werden.

PC-basierende Firewalls sind für Laien schwierig zu handhaben und können versehentlich fehlkonfiguriert oder von Viren abgeschaltet werden, externe Router nicht.

Einen Virenscanner (z.B. McAfee Virusscan) ersetzt eine normale Firewall natürlich nicht!

was Du für Schrott hältst, ist völlig unwichtig. Wenn Du die Norton Internet Firewall nicht einsetzt, kannst du auch kein Urteil abgeben.
Norton Internet Security bietet derzeit jedenfalls den bestmöglichsten Schutz gegen Angriffe aus dem Internet.
Geschenktes Spielzeug wie Zone Alarm kann eine auch für Privatanwender unbedingt notwendige Firewall niemals ersetzen.
