12:02 CASH (1049) extends 6 months for Fortune addtionally subscribe COL interest
(Infocast News) Celestial Asia Securities (CASH)(1049) declared that the Board of Directors had decided to extend 6 months for Fortune International Limited to subscribe additional ordinary shares in CASH on-line, Inc.(COL).

According to the agreement that CASH sold 43000 shares of COL to Fortune at US$4.5 million last year, Fortune was granted options to subscribe additional 43000 shares of COL at the same price within 3 months after the above-mentioned transaction had been done (i.e. 15 January, 2000).

The Board of Directors of CASH said that as the exercise of the options of additional subscription by Fortune would bring CASH an additional profit of $17.61 million cash, CASH decided to accept Fortune`s requirements and to extend the option period for 6 months for such subscription.

If Fortune exercises such options, the ultimate interest of CASH in COL will fall from the existing 70.76% to 67.65%, while that of Fortune in COL will rise from 4.59% to 8.78%.

According to the agreement signed between CASH and Fortune, Fortune has the option to convert CASH`s interest fully or partially based on the price stated in the Subscription Agreement.

Online stock trading gets new players

      2000-01-19

Besides existing competitors Boom, Wing Lung Bank (96), and CASH (1049), Hong Kong is seeing two more brokerages jump into the online fray.

Core Pacific-Yamaichi launched broking via the internet and mobile phones with Cable and Wireless HKT yesterday. The website, currently only in Chinese though the English portion is to be launched in February, has a key benefit in that customers may subscribe to IPOs and placements in addition to performing ordinary trading activities. The mobile phone trading service implies revenue sharing with HKT, but the specifics were not disclosed.

With branches in Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, Bangkok, and Jakarta, Core Pacific-Yamaichi may be in a good position to offer trading of stocks from other exchanges. The company currently claims 3 to 4 percent internet trade market share in Taiwan in terms of volume of securities with usage growing 30% annually.

Dao Heng Bank (223) has also launched their on-line brokerage operation with banking to follow soon. Dao Heng differentiates itself with value-added services including Dow Jones news and stock quotes and information from Quotepower. This comes at a price, though cheaper than if one were to sign up individually with Quotepower, with a $338 monthly fee. The service appears to be mandatory, so investors who are not willing to pay for the information, to varying degrees available for free at sites such as Quamnet, will probably stick with Boom, Wing Lung, or CASH.

On the other hand, banking customers who prefer a full set of integrated services may switch to Dao Heng and avoid brokerage-only firms. In this case, Wing Lung Bank may provide the biggest challenge as they were the first in Hong Kong to provide both online banking and stock trading and thus possess first-mover advantage.

Dao Heng, at $37 per share, is capitalized at HK$25.5 billion and is trading at a P/E of 21. CASH, at 90 cents per share, is capitalized at $3.8 billion, has no earnings and therefore no P/E, and sells for a price-to-sales ratio of 5.3 times. Wing Lung Bank trades at $29 per share for a capitalization of $6.7 billion and a P/E of 11 times.
