Diabetes Patients Can Now Receive Medicare Reimbursement for Cell Robotics` Lasette and Disposable

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/-- Cell Robotics International, Inc. (CRII.OB) producer of the Cell Robotics Workstation and the Lasette(R), the only needleless, FDA cleared laser finger perforator for sampling capillary blood, announced today that the US Department of Health & Human Services through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (Medicare) determined reimbursement allowances on the Lasette and its Home-Use Disposable Cartridges. Medicare`s 2002 fee schedule lists both items with their associated allowables for each state on its website.

Terry Hamilton, the Company`s National Director of Sales said, "Having Medicare coverage opens up the large home-use diabetes monitoring market in the United States. This gives us the catalyst to develop a large network of home-use product distributors. This coverage should also greatly enhance the exposure and sales of the Lasette as Cell Robotics continues to provide the only "needleless" means for a healthcare worker to obtain a capillary blood sample in the clinical setting. More importantly, within the U.S. clinical market the Lasette eliminates "sharps" accidents and fulfills the requirements of the Accidental Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act for a healthcare institution."

The Lasette allows people with diabetes to sample their blood for glucose measurements without a steel needle. Individuals that currently use the Lasette experience less pain, soreness and residual bleeding. Additionally, in the clinical setting, use of the Lasette for capillary blood sampling prevents needlestick cross-contamination accidents.

The American Diabetes Association estimates that 18.6 % of this group has diabetes. Medicare provides medical coverage to a wide range of people, including all individuals 65 years of age and older. Also, Medicare has released its 2002 fee schedule to intermediaries that include Indian Health Services, Railroad Retirement Board and United Mine Workers. Finally, private insurance carriers in the United States generally look to Medicare as a benchmark in determining their reimbursement for medical products.

@morchel: die idee mit der nadellosen injektion bei diabetes ist nicht ganz neu. ich habe vor langer zeit mal eine firma gefunden, die auch sowas anbietet (weiss aber leider nicht mehr den namen...). der neueste stand der forschung sind wohl manipulierte gene, die die insulinproduktion wieder anregen und nanokapseln, die insulin enthalten und dieses im körper abgeben. letztere methoden sind allerdings gerade erst am anfang der entwicklung und noch lange nicht serienreif...

Ganz so spektakulär ist die nicht1

die Lanzette dient lediglich zum stechen in den Finger um Blut abzunehmen! Bei bis zu 5 mal Blutzucker Messen ist diese eine überuas hygienische und schmerzfreiere Lösung!
