F-Secure receives world’s first security certificate for Windows Powered mobile platforms

      Helsinki, Finland - October 23, 2002

F-Secure Corporation is the first company in the world to receive United States government validation from National Institute of Standards and Technology for cryptographic products on the Windows Powered mobile platforms. Microsoft Windows Powered devices include smartphones and PDA devices, such as the HP iPAQ Pocket PC.

The validation gives F-Secure significant competitive advantage in the North American markets as US and Canadian federal government organizations are advised to use validated data security products whenever possible. The certificate is also considered undeniable proof of technological excellence in cryptography and serves as an assurance of high quality for all customers with the most stringent security requirements.

The certified cryptographic module is used in F-Secure FileCrypto for Pocket PC, which is a full-featured content encryption application that provides strong protection for Pocket PC devices against unwanted data disclosure. It has been designed to protect devices in demanding personal use and corporate environments, where fully automatic data protection and strong user authentication is required.

“Security is a key consideration for enterprises interested in deploying mobile solutions given the large amount of data that can be stored in Pocket PCs and on external storage cards," said Douglas Dedo, Marketing Manager for Mobility at Microsoft Corp. “The government certification F-Secure has received is a great validation of its data encryption solution for Windows Powered mobile devices in both public- and private-sector solutions.”

The certification is based on the new FIPS 140-2 (The Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 140-2) government standard, which specifies the security requirements that are to be satisfied by a cryptographic module utilized within a security system protecting sensitive or designated information. The validation performed by Atlan Laboratories, an accredited testing laboratory, has verified that the software implementation complies with the requirements that cover eleven areas related to the secure design and implementation of the cryptographic module.

“Being the first company in the world to receive the FIPS 140-2 validation for Windows Powered mobile platforms proves F-Secure’s technology leadership in the handheld device security area. The certification strengthens our position in the demanding government sector, which is more and more utilizing mobile technology. The financial community and other security sensitive markets will no doubt value the validated integrity of our mobile security solutions as well," said Ari Hypponen, Chief Technology Officer of F-Secure Corporation.

F-Secure has taken determined steps to validate the high quality of its products through external certifications. Earlier this year, the company received the world’s first FIPS 140-2 validation for its cryptographic driver, which is used in F-Secure’s security products on Windows 2000, Windows NT and Windows XP operating systems. F-Secure was also the first company to offer FIPS certified SSH client and server solutions.

      F-Secure Group`s Financial Results January 1 - September 30, 2002

Improved profitability, continuing growth in anti-virus, especially in service subscriptions through ISPs
      Helsinki, Finland - October 29, 2002

For the 3rd quarter of 2002, F-Secure reported revenues of 9.6 million euros. This represents an increase of 5% from the previous quarter and a decrease of 3% from the third quarter of 2001. For the first nine months of 2002 revenue was 28.7 million euros, representing a decline of 6% from the first nine months of 2001.

Result after financial items was EUR 0.1 million negative for the third quarter (1.1m negative in 2Q2002 and 2.2m negative in 3Q2001). For the first nine months of 2002 the operating result was EUR 1.8 million negative (9.4m negative in the first nine months of 2001).

The anti-virus business remained stable with an annual growth of 9% for the first nine months of 2002 compared to the same period a year ago. Also the number of anti-virus service subscriptions grew steadily. The Small Office and Home Office (SOHO) business advanced further as key service provider partners in France and Sweden started promoting their anti-virus and firewall services. The growth of the security subscription business has remained strong with the subscriber base growing a minimum of 20% quarter-over-quarter for six consecutive quarters.

In October, F-Secure and Deutsche Telekom announced a service to be offered by the T-Com division of Deutsche Telekom to its small business customers. The Personal Security Service will combine anti-virus and personal firewall services and will be offered initially to T-Com’s 350,000 small to medium-sized businesses. During 2003 the offering is also available at all T-Punkt retail stores to all customer segments across Germany. After the addition of Deutsche Telekom’s T-Com subsidiary to the Group’s list of service provider partners in early October, the Group has the two largest ISPs in Europe offering managed security based on F-Secure solutions.

The encryption business continued to face long lead times and it declined by 14% in the first nine months of 2002 compared to the same period a year ago. The North American market showed some signs of recovery in Q3, but overall IT spending remained cautious.

"The market conditions improved slightly in the third quarter after the second quarter`s slump. Good team effort in all our offices combined with well-managed cost control led into clear improvement in profitability. The core parts of our business grew during the third quarter. Overall growth was not achieved and we are not satisfied with this part of the outcome. Seeking growth remains our main focus", says Risto Siilasmaa, President and CEO of F-Secure Corporation.

F-Secure protects US taxpayers` data at IRS

      Helsinki, Finland - November 20, 2002

F-Secure Corporation announces that it has signed an agreement to provide encryption to the US Internal Revenue Service. The F-Secure FileCrypto product is used to protect and encrypt confidential data such as taxpayer information on laptops and desktops.

The proliferation of computer hacking and cracking as well as loss and theft of laptops and other equipment have made file level security even more critical. F-Secure FileCrypto is the first and only cryptographic solution based on a FIPS 140-2 certified module. The product is part of F-Secure`s comprehensive security portfolio protecting against data theft, intrusions and viruses. F-Secure`s products are centrally managed, policy based and transparent to the end user. This enables administrators to enforce organizational security policies and insures that critical information will be protected at all times.

GovConnection Inc. partnered with F-Secure to deliver F-Secure FileCrypto to the IRS. "We feel confident in recommending F-Secure to provide FIPS 140-2 certified security products for our government customers` needs," says Gary Sorkin, President of GovConnection, Inc. "The IRS technology implementation will give taxpayers and corporations absolute assurance that their tax information in the IRS`s possession remains intact and unreachable by outsiders."

"At F-Secure, we are very proud of the fact that an organization with high security demands such as IRS has chosen F-Secure as their encryption provider," says Ilkka Starck, Executive VP of the Americas at F-Secure Corporation, San Jose, CA. "Automatic content security solution enables people to work in a more flexible manner without compromising security and confidentiality."

F-Secure was the first company in the world to be granted FIPS 140-2 certification for its security technology. The certification is necessary for successful dealing with US and Canadian governments and agencies. For more information on the certification, see http://csrc.nist.gov/cryptval/140-1/140crt/140crt237.pdf

F-Secure to Provide Security Solutions for the Sony Ericsson P800 Smart Phone

      Helsinki, Finland - February 18, 2003

F-Secure Corporation [HEX: FSC] today announced in the on-going 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, that it has signed a software development and distribution agreement with Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications about providing data protection for the users of Sony Ericsson P800 smart phones. The agreement concerns F-Secure FileCrypto, a content encryption product for protecting stored information against unauthorized access.

Mobile business applications can bring significant benefits to corporations that need to operate close to their partners and customers. In addition to considerable time savings, being able to access the latest corporate data instantly with the possibility to store the latest changes to a mobile device serves as a basis for better service and new business models. Creating, storing, carrying and transmitting confidential data has never been easier. It is an exciting change in the way we do business, but it also makes protecting corporate data more demanding. In handheld devices, sensitive information moves more than ever. Content encryption is needed on every device to ensure that the stored information remains always secure.

The P800 is a multimedia smart phone for worldwide communications. It has a large colour touch-screen, built-in camera, access to the Internet and runs on tri-band GSM and GPRS networks. Based on the open Symbian OS v7.0 the P800 is a fully featured mobile multimedia product, and the most advanced phone that has been announced in the GSM industry.

“Automatic data security is an important element of a good, safe user experience in today’s mobile business environment. We are very pleased to extend our handheld security product range to cover the Sony Ericsson smart phones, and look forward to strengthening our cooperation in the future. We believe that the combination of our expertise in securing the mobile enterprise and the advanced functionality of the P800 will offer substantial benefits to business users who want the strongest available protection for their mobile business solutions,” said Risto Siilasmaa, President and CEO of F-Secure.

F-Secure FileCrypto provides strong protection for the Sony Ericsson P800 smart phones against unwanted data disclosure. It automatically encrypts all files before storing and decrypts the files again when they are opened, without any need for user intervention. Confidential documents, pictures, calendar data, e-mail messages and other personal files remain safe, even when unauthorized persons get access to the device.

The optimized version of F-Secure FileCrypto for the Sony Ericsson P800 product family will be available during the second quarter of the year.

F-Secure Unveils the World`s First Content Security Solution for Wireless Download Systems

      Helsinki, Finland - February 18, 2003

[3GSM World Congress 2003, Cannes, France] F-Secure Corporation today announced F-Secure Mobile Filter, the world`s first content security solution for wireless download systems. It offers operators and service providers a means for filtering content in order to block harmful software and incompatible Java applications in the network before download to mobile phones. The solution also includes an automated service for updating the filtering criteria. In addition, the service provider can flexibly define rules for blocking undesired content.

Content distribution systems are becoming more complex. Currently, most systems offer simple SMS-based delivery of ringing tones and logos. The next generation more advanced systems allow operators and service providers to distribute multiple types of digital content from screen savers, polyphonic ringing tones and media clips to Java and Symbian applications.

Almost all new mobile phone models support Java and can download executable applications. The popularity of such downloads is expected to increase quickly with the introduction of new Java marketplaces, where a large community of independent software vendors offers applications to mobile phone users through a single service provider.

While the possibility to download advanced applications offers phone users more freedom of choice, the more open download environments raise new security concerns. It is no longer possible to verify the behaviour of all content on all device models before publishing. Therefore, content download solutions must be able to scan content to ensure the functionality of the downloaded applications.

"Security of services is a key distinctive factor between mobile operators as operator customers value reliability when selecting the service provider. Harmful content and incompatible Java applications may result in loss of revenue to the operators. For the majority of mobile phones, which still employ closed operating systems, the protection against harmful content must be in the network. F-Secure Mobile Filter offers operators and service providers a unique way to avoid content quality problems and ensures a positive download user experience," said Juha Saksi, Director, Wireless Security, of F-Secure Corporation.

F-Secure Mobile Filter performs Java byte code analysis and antivirus scanning to block incompatible Java software and other harmful content in the network before downloading. The transparent proxy architecture allows easy integration with download platforms and a specific operator user interface offers possibilities to block unwanted functionality and even single incompatible Java functions. F-Secure Anti-Virus Research provides an automatic 24/7-update service to keep the content analysis database up to date.

F-Secure Mobile Filter will be available through F-Secure and selected download platform vendors during the second quarter of year.

      F-Secure Group`s financial results January 1-June 30,2003

Moderate growth in anti-virus, continuing steady growth in service subscriptions through ISPs
      Helsinki, Finland - August 6, 2003

For the second quarter of 2003, F-Secure reported revenues of 9.1 million euros. This represents the same level as for the previous quarter and for the second quarter of 2002. The operating result was EUR 0.4 million negative for the second quarter (1.4 m negative in 2Q02).

The anti-virus revenues continued to increase at a steady rate, by 6% in the second quarter. The Security as a Service business (service subscriptions through ISPs) grew steadily and the second quarter of 2003 was the 9th consecutive quarter with approximately 20% growth. Related revenues grew by 131% in the first six months. The encryption business declined by 14% in the second quarter.

New Security as a Service partners during the second quarter were Glocalnet and Eesti Telefon (Estonia). Glocalnet is the 3rd largest ISP in Sweden. This further increases F-Secure’s market share in Sweden as the Group is already offering security services through Telia. The Group launched the Security as a Service concept in the North American market in May. Other new customer wins were Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil company, Microsoft MSN, Alma Media, and the Finnish Parliament.

The Group launched a new retail channel to consumers in cooperation with a pan-European software re-publisher WSKA in Germany, France and the UK. The cooperation provides access to key retail chains such as Media Markt, Carrefour and Dixon’s. Still the Group’s main focus remains the small and medium businesses (SMB) sector. Similar partnerships will be developed in other territories.

The Company’s virus scanning and protection system F-Secure Anti-Virus was given the VB100 award for the third time in a row by Virus Bulletin magazine. The independent test results of the Virus Bulletin magazine demonstrate once again that F-Secure is the technology leader in virus protection. The French Décision Micro & Réseaux gave the product highest points for performance. In addition, The Virus Test Center of the University of Hamburg ranked F-Secure’s detection rates to be excellent in all categories together with only one other vendor.

The F-Secure Internet Gatekeeper anti-virus gateway product for web and email traffic was introduced in Q2.

Key events after the end of the reporting period

During Q3 F-Secure Group will launch its most important product for the year. F-Secure Anti-Virus Client Security product contains anti-virus, email scanning, firewall, intrusion detection and application control in one single package. This product provides complete protection and prevents security threats such as the one caused by the July 2003 RPC vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. Experts agree that this hole is among the most serious ever seen and it affects tens of millions of computers around the world.

The first shipments of the F-Secure Mobile Filter, which is content security solution for wireless download systems, were made in Q3.

“In 2003 our key goal is to grow the anti-virus business faster than the industry in the European Small and Medium Businesses and consumer market. Our excellent Security as a Service concept, new products introduced and increasing the number of reselling partners will support our efforts in this challenging business environment”, says Risto Siilasmaa, President and CEO of F-Secure Corporation.

      Financial Reporting

A press and analyst conference will be arranged today, August 6th, at 11 am Finnish time at the Group’s Headquarters, Tammasaarenkatu 7, Helsinki. A conference call for international investors and analysts will be arranged at 15.30 Finnish time (14.00 CET, 1.00 pm UK time). Instructions at: http://www.europe.fsecure.com/investor-relations/

The quarterly report for the third quarter of 2003 will be published on October 30th. A Stock Exchange bulletin will be sent at 9 am Finnish time to the Helsinki Exchanges, a press and analyst conference will be arranged at 11 am Finnish time in Helsinki, and an international conference call will be arranged in the afternoon.
