      COMPANY REPORT: Friday 21st March

      AWB : According to a news report from Reuters, 100,000 tonnes of wheat from AWB Limited (AWB) will be provided to Iraq as humanitarian food assistance by the Australian Government.The wheat is currently on board two ships in the Persian Gulf. The ships had been heading for Iraq before the outbreak of hostilities earlier this week, but were diverted to Oman to await developments.Reuters quotes a spokesman for AWB as saying that the company had been expecting the wheat on the ships to be used as food aid once the current military campaign concludes. AWB is expecting more Australian wheat to be shipped to postwar Iraq.AWB "B" shares are trading at $3.52, down 1 cent.

      AWB : Grain trading group AWB Limited (AWB) has confirmed that the Australian Government will buy 100,000 tonnes of wheat that had been destined for Iraq before the outbreak of hostilities earlier this week.AWB managing director Andrew Lindberg said, "We are determined and committed to the ongoing flow of wheat to the Iraqi Grains Board to continue the supply of food to the Iraqi people but were prevented from doing so by the safety concerns of the vessel owners as well as the temporary suspension of the Oil-for-Food program."AWB "B" shares are trading at $3.54, up 1 cent.

      DOW : Engineering group Downer EDI Limited (DOW) has announced that it is in discussions with the Tasmanian Government to purchase the Civil Construction Services Corporation, trading as Civil Construction Corporation (CCC), a government business enterprise.The Tasmanian Government has confirmed that it intends to sell CCC and will negotiate a sale with DOW in the first instance. Previously Works Tasmania with around 100 years of service to the Tasmanian community in civil works and construction, CCC was established in 1995 as a government business enterprise. Its business today centres on civil asset maintenance and construction (in particular, roads, bridges and marine structures), asset management services to local government, asset management services associated with business process management, training services and plant hire, and services in the management of landfill and quarries, vegetation, weed controi and soil remediation. CCC employs 131 staff with services throughout the State and promotes a total asset management philosophy.DOW shares are trading at 49 cents, unchanged from yesterday`s close.

      MIM : MIMs wholly owned subsidiary Carpentaria Gold today completed the purchase of the Haoma NL gold mining and processing interests at Ravenswood, North Queensland, increasing MIMs interest to 100% of the Ravenswood joint venture operations.Gold production at Ravenswood is expected to be increased to 200 000 oz in the next financial year, with potential for further expansion.MIM was down 2 cents to $1.44.

      QAN : Airlines responded to the start of war in Iraq on Thursday by canceling more flights, while others sent special planes to ferry their nationals home.Singapore Airlines (P.SAL) said it will suspend 65 weekly flights due to "softening demand" resulting from the war in Iraq. Included was service to Las Vegas, Chicago, Brussels and Madrid.Scheduled flights to London and Istanbul would be rerouted to avoid flying over Iraq now that U.S.-led strikes have begun, it said. Flights to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates were scaled back earlier. Greek national carrier Olympic Airways (I.OAI) canceled service to Beirut and Alexandria, and reduced the number of flights to Cairo, Tel Aviv, Jiddah, Saudia Arabia and Larnaca, Cyprus. Austrian Airlines (R.AAI) Thursday canceled its flight to Tel Aviv but said a flight to Damascus, Syria, took off as planned.Russia`s Aeroflot Airlines has suspended flights to and from Jordan until April 6, but said its service to other Mideast destinations would continue. Malaysian Airline (P.MAS) canceled flights through Monday to Cairo, Dubai, Beirut and Istanbul.QAN shares are trading at $3.42, up 7 cents.

      QAN : Qantas Airways (QAN) today confirmed it will raise international airfares by three per cent to offset general cost increases. Qantas is one of many international airlines reported to be raising regular airfares on international routes by three per cent from April 15.This follows agreements made during International Air Transport Association member talksQantas also said it will make cuts to some of its international services on a route-by-route basis during the Iraq war. A Qantas spokeswoman said that, for example, Qantas has cut two of their 21 Sydney-to-London services for next week.QAN shares are trading at $3.41, up 6 cents.

      TLS : Telstra (TLS) has entered into an Asia-wide Wi-Fi agreement with other regional telcos. Notebook and PDA users may soon be able to roam across more than 8,600 wireless LAN (WLAN) hot spots in five Asia-Pacific nations, thanks to one of the largest cross-border agreements of its kind in the world.The new deal will allow users to access e-mail and the Web in airports and cafes, from Sydney to Shanghai, without changing the notebook`s network settings or facing more than one bill.At today`s signing ceremony in Singapore, the countries were represented by their respective operators: Telstra, Korea Telecom, China Netcom, Maxis from Malaysia and Singapore`s StarHub.When ready, subscribers will have access to 8,600 hot spots, including 17 international airports. This figure is expected to grow to over 20,000 hot spots by the end of the year, they added.TLS shares are trading at $4.02, up 3 cents.
