$ aufgestellt hatte.

Visa Introduces New Commercial Card to Help Manage Growing Corporate Meetings Expenditures
In response to growth in global spending on meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, Visa Inc. (News) (NYSE: V) today announced the addition of the Visa Meetings card to its suite of commercial payment solutions to help businesses more strategically manage this expense category.
According to research by the Aberdeen Group, surveyed companies spent on average nearly three percent of their annual revenues, or $17.3 million, on meetings-related expenses during 2007, up from $15.8 million the previous year.1 Aberdeen research also indicates that a meetings card ranks the highest among corporate expense managers as the most cost effective method for managing meetings and related expenses.2 Current growth in spending in this category is driving demand for effective expense management tools to help businesses control costs and manage their meetings spending, which is expected to reach $86 billion annually in the U.S. alone in 2008 according to research by PhoCusWright Inc.3
The Visa Meetings card includes the features of the existing Visa Purchasing and Visa Corporate payment cards. This combination offers a flexible procure-to-pay solution to help companies simplify the process to purchase, pay, reconcile and report on meetings-related expenditures. The new card provides corporate expense managers the ability to tailor a card program to meet their specific company needs while helping them to reduce costs, streamline operational and payment processes and make more informed business decisions.
“Using payment cards for meetings expenses helps enable companies to improve the efficiency of their spend management processes, gain greater control and visibility over their spending and ultimately drive increased cost savings to their bottom line,“ said Darren Parslow, Global Head of Commercial Solutions, Visa Inc.
The Visa Meetings card builds upon a strategic alliance with ArcaneoTM, a leading global meetings technology provider, to integrate Visa Meetings card transaction data into Arcaneo's MetronTM strategic meetings management system. This integration provides mid-size, large and multinational enterprises, along with meeting and travel management companies with the information they need to more efficiently manage meetings expenses.
“With an increasing focus among corporate CFOs on strategic meetings management, the Visa Meetings card in conjunction with MetronTM is intended to address a growing need among businesses for an end-to-end solution to more strategically manage their expenses“ said Dale Beckles, President and CEO of Arcaneo.
The use of the Visa Meetings card with Arcaneo's MetronTM system helps companies more easily centralize internal processes for purchasing, data tracking, reporting on meetings expenses and managing logistical aspects of planning meetings. This integration enables businesses to increase visibility into spending for meetings, travel, procurement and other expenses to enable greater compliance with corporate and regulatory policies and preferred supplier usage.
Web-based data and reporting tools available through Visa Information Management, an integral component of the Visa Meetings card, further improves company visibility into meetings spending. These tools provide access to transaction details and e-folio data from hotels, airlines, car rental agencies and other suppliers through easy-to-read reports, expense reporting tools, cardholder statements and file extract capabilities. These tools also enable consolidation of spending data from Visa commercial card programs across all departments, divisions and subsidiaries within a company to provide management with an aggregate view of all business expenses for travel, procurement and meetings.

Visa Inc. Reports Fiscal Third Quarter 2008 Earnings Results

Visa, MasterCard Sidestep Defaults Hurting Lenders (Update2)
By Hugh Son
Enlarge Image/Details
July 30 (Bloomberg) -- Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc., the world's biggest credit-card companies, may sidestep the U.S. economic slowdown hurting earnings at American Express Co.
The companies collect fees to shuttle payments between financial institutions, letting banks take the risk of extending loans to consumers. Visa, which reports results today, and MasterCard, which announces tomorrow, aren't affected by rising loan defaults that caused American Express's second-quarter profit to drop 37 percent.
``Visa and MasterCard don't have credit risk,'' David Hochstim, analyst at the Buckingham Research Group in New York, said in an interview. ``Consumers around the world are increasingly using debit and credit cards to make purchases, and these companies are at the center of that trend.''
Visa has surged 78 percent in New York trading since its March initial public offering and No. 2 ranked MasterCard advanced 64 percent in the past year as the firms capitalize on faster growth outside the U.S. and the shift in consumer spending from cash to plastic. American Express shares slumped 38 percent as rising unemployment and food and fuel prices make it harder for consumers to repay debt.
Visa climbed $2.48 to $78.45 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading and MasterCard rose $8.63 to $270.73 American Express rose 2 cents to $37.54.
Overseas Growth
MasterCard, based in Purchase, New York, may say profit excluding a $1 billion charge from settling a lawsuit rose 34 percent to $261.7 million, according to the average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Visa, based in San Francisco, may post profit today of $379.2 million, analysts said.
Growing adoption of credit and debit cards means consumers will spend more using plastic this year and in 2009 amid a U.S. slowdown, Tien-tsin Huang, analyst at JPMorgan Chase & Co., said in an April 28 research note. Purchase volume rose about 10 percent during the recessions of 1991 and 2001, he said.
MasterCard generates half its revenue from overseas while Visa gets about one-third from abroad. The firms said that first- quarter purchase volumes grew at least three times faster outside the U.S. than within the country. The transition to credit and debit cards is at an earlier stage in many places abroad, Hochstim said in a July 24 note, and will rise as nations become wealthier. He rates Visa and MasterCard ``buy.''
Contrasting Fortunes
American Express Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Chenault said July 21 that the U.S. economic slowdown is affecting even the company's wealthier cardholders. The lender's profit from continuing operations fell to $655 million as it added $600 million to reserves for U.S. loan losses.
``Unemployment rates took the largest jump in over twenty years,'' Chenault said in the conference call. ``Home prices declined at the fastest rate in decades and consumer confidence is at one of its all-time low points.''
While American Express said last week it wouldn't meet long- term profit targets until the U.S. economy improves, MasterCard recently increased its guidance. The company said in May it expects net income to increase 20 to 30 percent annually over the next three years, from a previous goal of 15 percent to 20 percent. Visa said in April that its earnings per share will rise 20 percent a year.
Moody's Investors Service has a negative outlook on credit- card lenders and said defaults ``will most certainly'' rise this year. Consumers are tapping plastic as access to home-equity loans falls, New York-based Moody's said in a report published in February.
Delinquent Accounts
The U.S. lost 62,000 jobs in June, the sixth straight period of shrinking payrolls. Delinquent credit-card accounts rose more than 1 percentage point from a year earlier to 3.99 percent in May, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Visa had 46 percent of the $848 billion spent on U.S. credit and debit cards in 2007, compared with MasterCard's 36 percent and 12 percent for American Express, according to the Nilson Report, an industry newsletter based in Carpinteria, California. Consumers will use credit and debit cards for 55 percent of all U.S. transactions by 2011, rising from 40 percent in 2005, according to the publication.
Visa and MasterCard face about 50 U.S. lawsuits from merchants alleging the companies unfairly set fees that increase costs for consumers. The so-called interchange fees are paid by retailers and distributed to the cardholders' banks.

Visa's Profit Rises 41% As More Consumers Use Credit, Debit
By Hugh Son
July 30 (Bloomberg) -- Visa Inc., the world's largest credit and debit-card company, said profit rose 41 percent on rising revenue from consumer spending.
Net income rose to $422 million, or 51 cents a share in the fiscal third quarter, from $299 million a year earlier, the San Francisco-based company said today in a statement distributed by PRNewswire. Adjusted net income was 59 cents a share, beating the 49-cent average estimate of 22 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
Visa has advanced 78 percent since its March IPO as investors clamor for the network handling the most credit and debit transactions. Visa and No. 2-ranked MasterCard Inc., which has surged more than six-fold since its 2006 IPO, collect fees to shuttle payments between financial institutions, letting banks take the risk of extending loans to consumers.
``The continuing shift to card spending is likely to overwhelm much of the impact of economic weakness'' in the U.S., said David Hochstim, analyst at the Buckingham Research Group in New York who rates Visa ``accumulate.''
Visa, which has three-quarters of the U.S. signature debit card market, may benefit as consumers rely more on debit during the U.S. slowdown, Bruce Harting of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. said in a July 28 note. People tend to purchase essentials including food and gas with debit cards, which are linked to checking accounts, and use credit cards for luxuries, he said.
Unlike rival American Express Co., Visa and MasterCard are insulated from rising U.S. defaults because they don't make loans to cardholders. Second-quarter results from credit-card lenders show consumer defaults and late payments are rising as consumers are squeezed by rising unemployment and higher prices.
Peers Under Pressure
American Express, the New York-based credit-card lender, said income fell 37 percent to $655 million as it added $600 million to loss reserves. Capital One Financial Corp., the McLean, Virginia-based card issuer, said profit fell 40 percent to $452.9 million.
The results were released after the close of regular U.S. trading. Visa rose $2.48, or 3.3 percent, to $78.45 at 4 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.
