D. Baker at First Equity Group, Inc., ``Recent news flow from the company has been very positive. The company recently announced that its Astrotech Space Operations subsidiary has been awarded a new contract by NASA/Kennedy Space Center to provide payload processing services from the Company`s high-tech facilities in Titusville, Florida.`` .... in der Tat, der Auftrag zeigt das das Tuch zwischen NASA und Spacehab noch nicht zerschnitten ist.

HE Space Operations to Market SPACEHAB Services Throughout Europe
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 2005--SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS:SPAB - News), a leading space access provider, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Netherlands-based HE Space Operations to market SPACEHAB`s commercial space services throughout Europe.
Through the representation agreement, the companies committed to work together on European space initiatives addressing government and commercial customers. The arrangement establishes HE Space Operations as a European-registered entity representing SPACEHAB in offering commercial space access on European, United States, Russian and other space vehicles. This agreement is expected to increase SPACEHAB`s business opportunities throughout Europe.
SPACEHAB and HE Space Operations have also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding regarding numerous areas of mutual interest. Benefits include an enhanced global exposure of SPACEHAB`s extensive engineering and operations core competencies (e.g. payload processing, mission integration, and human factors), as well as increased access to SPACEHAB-provided research flight opportunities.
"This strategic alliance will create opportunities for SPACEHAB to provide commercial space access to a broad range of government, industry and academic institutions eager to engage in space-based research, technology development and industrial processing," said Michael E. Bain, SPACEHAB Chief Operating Officer. "HE Space Operations will help us open European markets to SPACEHAB commercial space services including spacecraft design and development, payload integration and operations, human spaceflight mission operations, as well as turn-key commercial space access on Russia`s Soyuz and Progress, the European Space Agency`s Automated Transfer Vehicle and SPACEHAB`s own commercial carrier, Apex."
Similarly, a cooperative relationship with SPACEHAB enables HE Space Operations to better leverage their opportunities within the European Space Agency and other government and private sector space initiatives. HE Space Operations seeks to expand their proven and highly successful business model of providing senior technical personnel to government and private sector organizations in support of space research and operations activities.
"This partnership positions SPACEHAB and HE Space Operations to synergistically leverage their respective, and often complementary, core competencies," stated Scott Millican, HE Space Operations Chief Executive Officer. "Both companies also increase their business opportunities within the European space community."
SPACEHAB has cultivated an extensive global customer base and has aligned itself with leading international partners within the space industry. Specifically, alliances with German-based EADS Space Transportation, Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan, and Russia`s RSC Energia brought about unique flight assets and services that have successfully served NASA and other customers on numerous shuttle and International Space Station missions. SPACEHAB also recently renewed its representation agreement with EADS for shuttle-based carriers and services. Now, with the HE Space Operations joint collaboration in place, SPACEHAB further broadens its interfaces with the European space industry and commences business relationships with some of Europe`s finest space scientists and engineers.

SPACEHAB Tasked to Support NASA in New Space Station Activities
Tuesday January 17, 10:18 am ET
Mission Preparation and New Business Opportunities Underway
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2006--SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS:SPAB - News), a leading provider of commercial space services, announced today that NASA has awarded new work to the Company in support of International Space Station assembly and operations activities.
New requirements for the International Space Station have resulted in NASA`s need to reprioritize the payloads set for launch on the STS-121 space shuttle mission currently set for liftoff in May 2006. These requirements have resulted in NASA engaging SPACEHAB`s support, through its contract with Lockheed Martin, in removing and replacing equipment set for launch on the Company`s cargo carrier being flown on this mission. SPACEHAB, in conjunction with EADS Space Transportation, will be incorporating the changes into the fourteen-month mission preparation process, of which just four months remain. The Company has been authorized approximately $500,000 for the first sixty days of this effort in support of NASA`s mission objectives.
"One of the many advantages of using a commercially provided carrier and related services is our ability to quickly respond to the customers evolving needs, allowing us to again demonstrate our flexibility, capabilities, and responsiveness," stated E. Michael Chewning, Senior Vice President of SPACEHAB Flight Services. "Our external cargo carrier that rides in the shuttle`s cargo bay is ideal for ferrying this needed space station equipment, and we have the capability to accomplish the cargo changeout, support the current launch schedule, and provide a high-value commercial solution to NASA."
In addition to the STS-121 mission, SPACEHAB`s Flight Services team continues its support of the STS-116 and 118 shuttle flights. These two missions use the Company`s cargo pallets, one set for permanent deployment and attachment to the space station, but also utilize SPACEHAB`s patented module system. The Company`s single module, used previously on the STS-95 John Glenn mission where he performed numerous experiments, is about the size of four rows in a Boeing 737 and is mounted in the shuttle cargo bay. The module is accessible to the crew via a tunnel so that astronauts can have a significantly larger working and living area than available in the `shirt-sleeve` portion of the space shuttle. The single module will hold approximately 5,600 pounds of equipment and provisions, much of it transferred to the space station for use by the Expedition crews that live for extended periods in space.
Along with the extensive support of these logistics missions, SPACEHAB is poised to undertake new flight opportunities aboard the space shuttle to support NASA in its remaining space station construction and maintenance activities. As NASA seeks to transition from the space shuttle to the next generation of space vehicles, maximum capability and flexibility will be required for bringing the International Space Station into full operation on the remaining shuttle flights. SPACEHAB`s modules and cargo carriers are ideally suited to provide this supply capability while increasing shuttle mission efficiency.
To reiterate the Company`s ability to help NASA take full advantage of mission and cargo synergies, SPACEHAB has submitted two proposals associated with the Agency`s unpressurized logistics carrier needs. One proposal demonstrates SPACEHAB`s ability to manage NASA`s logistics needs through the remainder of the shuttle program through use of existing carriers and infrastructure. Through this approach NASA would not need to build a new, competing carrier system as currently planned, and would benefit from a significant cost savings by using existing technologies and proven commercial flight assets available and in use today. The second proposal leverages the Company`s proven ability to develop new commercial hardware by offering a carrier that is compatible with the space shuttle and expendable launch vehicles that could also support space station supply needs. This carrier can be ready for use in 24 months and satisfies NASA`s requirements for unpressurized cargo delivery following shuttle retirement in 2010.
"We are excited about the varying ways we are supporting and adding value to the nation`s space program," added Chewning. "Specifically, through our commercial approach in providing quality spaceflight hardware and logistics services, all demonstrated capabilities on both the Mir and the International Space Station programs."

SPACEHAB Enters Race for Commercial Space Station Supply Work
Thursday January 19, 4:51 pm ET
Facilities, Expertise, Past Performance and Innovative Solutions Position Company for Major Win
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2006--SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS:SPAB - News), a leading provider of commercial space services, announced today that the Company will be competing for the opportunity to serve as NASA`s supplier of commercial International Space Station logistics services.
In support of a solicitation released yesterday, SPACEHAB is pursuing a Space Act Agreement for NASA`s Commercial Orbital Transportation Service (COTS) Demonstration, a program with anticipated funding of $500 million. "NASA is seeking a commercial service to provide cargo transportation to and from the International Space Station, and we have been doing a major part of that job for the past decade," said Michael E. Kearney, SPACEHAB President and Chief Executive Officer. "I am confident our proven expertise and established infrastructure in this area, and the versatility that our approach provides, give us an advantage in this competition."
SPACEHAB is leveraging its extensive hands-on experience in architecting, defining, developing and operating commercial space flight asset services. As commercial payload service supplier to the space shuttle program and commercial cargo service provider to both the space station Mir and the International Space Station programs, SPACEHAB has a unique understanding of the challenges inherent in commercial crew and cargo services. As a participant in a number of applicable NASA space architecture studies including Alternate Access to Station, Orbital Space Plane, and NASA`s Lunar Exploration System of Systems, SPACEHAB has been involved in major NASA cargo transportation system trade studies that drive out optimum solutions.
Along with the Company`s proven flight hardware and cargo supply capabilities, SPACEHAB is also a leading authority in the commercial space market, an important component of the COTS initiative. Helping organizations take advantage of the unique environment of space has been a mainstay in SPACEHAB`s space commerce market expansion. "As a pioneer in space commerce since 1984, we understand the upside, and downside, of commercial markets and the funding of commercial developments," added Kearney. "Couple this experience with the foundation laid working with potential customers and suppliers to define a truly commercial spacecraft service, and we are able to propose an optimal COTS solution. For SPACEHAB, this is an opportunity whose time has come."
In addition to the Company`s extensive expertise in space hardware design and development, payload processing, and flight services capabilities, SPACEHAB`s Astrotech subsidiary is renowned for its state-of-the-art spacecraft processing facilities and for related support services, critical elements of the COTS proposal requirements. Astrotech`s 62-acre campus, adjacent to NASA`s Kennedy Space Center, comprises payload processing facilities, cleanrooms, customer work areas and meeting facilities that are used to support the majority of unmanned commercial launch vehicles, and many government spacecraft, in the United States. The Company is prepared to do the same for this space station supply effort.
While responding to NASA`s COTS proposal as a prime team member, SPACEHAB is supporting alternate team proposals in a subcontractor role. "Regardless of which teams are selected to support this demonstration, SPACEHAB expects to benefit from this availability of commercial services since we know best the space market and how to develop that market," added Kearney. "When a commercial service to low earth orbit is established, our unique payload processing facilities, our cargo processing expertise, and our knowledge of supporting humans in space will be key to accomplishing any commercial space activities on the International Space Station."
The deadline for proposal submission to NASA is March 3, 2006 with one or more awards expected to be announced in May 2006. With a prime bid accepted, SPACEHAB will commence development of its COTS solution, demonstrating its capability to rendezvous and dock with the International Space Station and dispose of or return needed equipment and supplies. According to NASA, the objective of the spaceflight capability demonstrations is to stimulate commercial enterprises in space and lead to innovative, cost effective access to low-Earth orbit. NASA anticipates that upon the successful demonstration of the mission capabilities prior to a 2010 timeframe, NASA will issue contracts to competitively procure commercial services to supply the International Space Station.

SPACEHAB Files Court Complaint for Losses on Space Shuttle Mission
Friday February 3, 10:05 am ET
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2006--SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS:SPAB - News), a leading provider of commercial space services, announced today that it is filing a civil complaint against NASA with the United States District Court in Houston, Texas for loss and damages suffered during the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy in February 2003.
The Company`s research double module and related equipment were destroyed, along with the space shuttle and her crew, during reentry at the conclusion of the STS-107 mission. In November 2004 SPACEHAB filed a claim with NASA under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) of $79.7 million for recovery of the losses on the flight. After NASA failed to respond to the claim within a reasonable period of time, the Company was left no choice but to consider the claim as denied and then pursue restitution in the Federal Court system.
Under the FTCA, SPACEHAB claims that NASA`s actions and omissions led to the space shuttle disaster and the destruction of the Company`s flight assets. The complaint identifies the tragedy as a foreseeable consequence of NASA`s negligence as documented in the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) report which represents the findings of the post-accident investigation.
Columbia`s destruction was caused by insulating foam that came loose from the external tank on launch and damaged the orbiter`s wing. The CAIB found that NASA was long aware of the danger and frequency of these kinds of foam strikes; a very serious one which occurred just two missions before the STS-107 mission. According to the CAIB, and as alleged in the complaint, NASA ignored its own rules, failed to fix the problem, and improperly allowed Columbia to launch in the face of this unaddressed danger. NASA has stated that the Agency `accepts the findings of the CAIB` and `embraced the report and all that is included in it.`
"We are disappointed that NASA took no action to resolve this claim, and that we had to resort to the courts in order to achieve a fair and reasonable settlement," stated Michael E. Kearney, SPACEHAB President and Chief Executive Officer. "These valuable assets, developed through private capital investment, have served NASA well on nineteen missions. We believe the private sector`s participation in the space program is essential to the maturation of a robust space industry, but this goal is made extremely difficult in the current environment where `business as usual` is prevalent." SPACEHAB is the only company to successfully conceive, design, develop and operate significant commercial space research and cargo assets for the space shuttle and International Space Station programs.
To date, two claims have been filed with NASA. The first claim, the contract claim, which was filed in January 2004 for recovery of the module and associated equipment, totaled $87.7 million and included subrogation of insurance proceeds of $17.7 million received from underwriters. NASA paid $8.0 million plus interest in October 2004 claiming its liability was limited under the contract. In December 2004 SPACEHAB appealed the denial of the contract claim beyond $8.0 million through the Armed Services Contract Board of Appeals. The contract claim is in the discovery phase. The second claim, the tort claim, was filed in November 2004 for $79.7 million ($87.7 million less the partial recovery of $8.0 million).

Hier die Info.:
SPACEHAB REPORTS FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR SECOND QUARTER FISCAL YEAR 2006
Houston, Texas, February 7, 2006 – SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services, today announced financial results for the second quarter ended December 31, 2005 of its fiscal year 2006.
Second Quarter Results
SPACEHAB posted a second quarter fiscal 2006 net loss of $8.9 million, or $0.70 per share, on revenue of $11.8 million compared with second quarter fiscal year 2005 net loss of $1.2 million, or $0.10 per share, on revenue of $13.1 million.
The quarter loss includes a non-cash charge of $6.3 million as the Company wrote down the book value of one of its two pressurized space shuttle modules and changed the depreciable life of its remaining space shuttle assets to align with NASA’s current launch manifest that anticipates retiring the space shuttle fleet at the end of 2010. “With a limited number of shuttle flights remaining, we anticipate that the most efficient use of our flight assets to support NASA’s objectives is the combined use of our pressurized module flown in conjunction with our cargo carrying pallet in support of International Space Station assembly and operations,” stated Brian K. Harrington, SPACEHAB Chief Financial Officer. “This approach optimizes the amount of equipment and provisions shipped to the space station. Since this more favorable method uses our single module, Flight Unit 2, we have reduced the book value of our aft module, Flight Unit 3, which in the past provided a larger, double module capability when needed,” concluded Harrington. SPACEHAB’s single module is under contract for use on the STS-116 and 118 shuttle missions as is the cargo carrier. Second quarter results also include a non-cash charge of $0.6 million of deferred financing cost relative to the note exchange transaction completed in November.
“As NASA and the aerospace community implement the nation’s Vision for Space Exploration, we will be transitioning our existing programs away from shuttle operations, subsequently retiring certain space assets, and developing new capabilities and hardware that support next-generation services,” stated Michael E. Kearney, SPACEHAB President and Chief Executive Officer. “As with most companies, requirements change, technology improves, and the need to develop new and improved assets is imperative for market leadership.”
Six Months Results
SPACEHAB’s net loss for the six months ended December 31, 2005 was $10.8 million, or $0.85 per share, on revenue of $23.8 million compared to a net income of $5.7 million, or $0.40 per share, on revenue of $26.2 million for first six months of the prior fiscal year. Included in the prior year results was a recovery of $8.2 million from NASA in partial indemnification for losses the Company sustained in the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy in February 2003.
Following launch of the STS-114 mission in July 2005, space shuttle missions have been deferred until resolution of foam-related technical issues. This rescheduling of space shuttle missions has had an impact on Company revenues and margins for the fiscal year and is expected to have a continued impact on revenue through the end of the fiscal year. However, SPACEHAB is generally reimbursed under its contract with NASA, through Lockheed Martin, for additional costs due to delays.
Liquidity
SPACEHAB’s cash and short-term investments were approximately $3.8 million as of December 31, 2005. Current liabilities decreased to $18.4 million at December 31, 2005 compared to $20.5 million at June 30, 2005 due to reductions in accounts payable and accrued expense. As of December 31, 2005 SPACEHAB carried a contract backlog of $66.5 million which represents the expected value of contractually-committed work, portions of which are subject to the space shuttle’s return to flight or future government funding decisions.
The Company’s revolving line of credit in the amount of $5.0 million is secured by accounts receivable and includes financial covenants that, if not met, require cash deposits securing advances. SPACEHAB currently has no outstanding advances on this line of credit. The line of credit terminates on February 11, 2006 and the Company is currently negotiating an extension.
During the quarter the Company completed an offer to exchange its 5.5% senior convertible notes due 2010 for all of its outstanding 8.0% convertible subordinated notes due 2007. At the close of the offer, SPACEHAB issued approximately $52,944,000 in new notes leaving approximately $10,306,000 of old notes outstanding. The new notes are convertible into SPACEHAB common stock at the rate of $1.50 per share and are subject to mandatory conversion if the Company’s stock trades above $1.95 per share for 20 consecutive days. The issuance of the convertible notes is consistent with SPACEHAB’s strategy to refinance its outstanding debt in advance of maturity, reduce its cash requirements and strengthen its balance sheet.
As announced on February 3, 2005 SPACEHAB filed a civil complaint with the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Texas against NASA. The Company is seeking recovery of losses of $79.7 million from the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy.
Update of Ongoing Operations
Leveraging its extensive hands-on experience in architecting, defining, developing and operating commercial space flight asset services, SPACEHAB is preparing its proposal in support of NASA’s commercial space station resupply requirements known as the Commercial Orbital Transportation Service (COTS) Demonstration. With anticipated funding of $500 million, NASA is seeking a commercial service to provide cargo transportation to and from the International Space Station. In addition, the objective of the spaceflight capability demonstrations is to stimulate commercial enterprises in space and lead to innovative, cost effective access to low-Earth orbit.
In preparation for this procurement, which has a scheduled award date of June 2006, SPACEHAB has established partnerships and is securing suppliers with the objective of constructing an operationally-viable and affordable commercial solution for supplying a high-value logistics service to the International Space Station. “I am confident our proven expertise and established infrastructure in this area, and the versatility that our approach provides, give us an advantage in this competition,” said Kearney in a Company announcement issued subsequent to quarter end.
In addition to this high priority business development opportunity, SPACEHAB’s three major business units carry on their support to manned and unmanned missions to space, assisting both commercial and government initiatives. SPACEHAB Flight Services (SFS) continues its support of the STS-121 space shuttle mission set for launch in May 2006. Changes in the equipment needed for International Space Station operations have resulted in NASA’s need to further engage SPACEHAB’s support, through its contract with Lockheed Martin, in removing and replacing equipment set for launch on the Company’s cargo carrier being flown on this mission. As announced after quarter end, SPACEHAB has been authorized approximately $500,000 for the first sixty days of this effort.
The SFS business unit is also under contract to support the STS-116 and 118 flights. These missions use the Company’s cargo pallets, one set for permanent deployment and attachment to the space station, but also utilize SPACEHAB’s patented module system which will transport thousands of pounds of equipment and provisions, much of it transferred to the space station for use by the astronaut crews that live for extended periods in space.
In December 2005 SPACEHAB signed an agreement with Netherlands-based HE Space Operations to market the Company’s commercial space services throughout Europe. The strategic alliance creates opportunities for SPACEHAB to provide commercial space access to a broad range of government, industry and academic institutions eager to engage in space-based research, technology development and industrial processing.
Astrotech Space Operations provides support necessary for its customers to successfully process their spaceflight hardware for launch, including advance planning; use of unique facilities; and spacecraft checkout, fueling, encapsulation, transport, and remote control through launch. During the quarter the Company was awarded a new NASA mission, THEMIS, under its indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with NASA. THEMIS joins the STEREO and Dawn spacecraft, all of which are in the launch processing queue preparing to visit Astrotech’s extensive facilities in Titusville, Florida. For this contract Astrotech is making facility and equipment improvements that will be reimbursed by NASA as they are completed.
This quarter saw the successful launch of the Inmarsat-4 communications satellite from the Odyssey Launch Platform. Astrotech provided payload processing and facilities management support for this Sea Launch program at the Home Port facilities in Long Beach, California under a long-term contract with Sea Launch Company LLC. Inmarsat-4 is designed to provide high-speed mobile service to people throughout the Americas. It is one in a series of satellites supporting the Broadband Global Area Network for high-speed delivery of Internet and intranet content and solutions, video-on-demand, video conferencing, fax, e-mail, phone and LAN access.
SPACEHAB Government Services continues its exceptional support to NASA’s International Space Station program, primarily in the areas of configuration and data management supporting the final acceptance of space station hardware and software for NASA and the sixteen international partners. During the quarter, NASA bestowed a 100% award fee evaluation score on the Program Integration and Control contract for which the Company is a subcontractor. SPACEHAB began work on the five-year contract in November 2003 as a subcontractor to the ARES Corporation. NASA has the option to issue two one-year contract options that could expand the overall contract to seven years.

Dear Bourne,
SPACEHAB has two requirements it must meet. First, we must achieve a stock price of $1.00 for 10 consecutive days prior to May 31. Second, we must achieve either $10 million in equity or $15 million in market cap. The date for this requirement is not set as we have to submit a plan to NASDAQ by February 23 that states how we plan to achieve this requirement. If the plan is accepted, a timeline for compliance will be a part of that plan.
I can’t really say if this is ‘problematic’ as that term is quite subjective. What I can say is that SPACEHAB management is working diligently to share our vision and business xobjectives with the investment community, a story that we think should improve share price as it is currently an undervalued and thinly traded stock. We are committed to staying on the NASDAQ National Market and are doing what we can to stay in compliance.
Best regards,

We will see.

SPACEHAB Submits Proposal for NASA Space Station Logistics
Tuesday March 7, 5:07 pm ET
Company Teams with Prominent Industry Experts to Commercially Provide Space Access Services
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2006--SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS:SPAB - News), a leading provider of commercial space services, announced today that the Company has submitted its proposal to NASA to demonstrate its capability to provide commercial cargo transportation services to and from the International Space Station while providing space access to various customers worldwide.
A team of internationally renowned aerospace veterans, SPACEHAB, MacDonald Dettwiler Associates (MDA) Systems, Inc. and Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., propose to jointly develop and demonstrate a next generation commercial space service, called Apex, in response to NASA`s Commercial Orbital Transportation Service (COTS) Demonstrations solicitation. This service offers frequent, reliable and affordable access to space in support of NASA`s space station needs but also opens the door to commercial access to space by corporations, academic institutions and government users around the globe.
"Our Apex team provides a non-shuttle-based, end-to-end space access service that is an extension of the customer-responsive SPACEHAB service proven successful over the previous decade on numerous space shuttle and space station missions," stated Michael E. Kearney, SPACEHAB President and Chief Executive Officer. "As a pioneer in the development of the early stages of the space commerce market, SPACEHAB is ideally positioned to grow and expand the market via the COTS initiative and related commercial services."
SPACEHAB is moving forward with Apex maturity to ensure the success of commercial services to orbit while awaiting the results of the NASA competition. "Time is of the essence in developing the technical and market building blocks to initiate this service," said Kearney. Technical definition and payload services documentation is in full swing in anticipation for the Apex Systems Requirement Review in the fall of this year. The Apex team is refining its business case and pursuing detailed quotes from suppliers to further quantify pricing for early flights.
"Leveraging our success on previous missions to space, we have already begun to price and sell services on future Apex flights," added Kearney. "We have also been working with numerous other COTS bidders, providing a catalogue of processing, integration and operations capabilities that ensure we are engaged in this significant space commercialization initiative."
The Apex service features a family of mission-configurable spacecraft capable of achieving orbit on several families of launch vehicles. Through a patent-pending spacecraft design initiated over one year ago, SPACEHAB`s Apex spacecraft have the ability to ferry equipment and other payload to orbit, rendezvous with and berth to the International Space Station and dispose of or return equipment and experiment results. Apex is designed to evolve to support human transportation, as needed, following space shuttle retirement. The spacecraft utilizes readily adaptable systems and technologies, such as the segmented SPACEHAB payload module, a Ball Aerospace satellite bus and MDA`s automated rendezvous and proximity operations subsystem.

ISS supply competitors break cover
Three US teams have unveiled bids for the $500 million NASA Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) demonstration, with initial contracts to be awarded in the third quarter. Winning bidders will be required to demonstrate International Space Station (ISS) cargo delivery and return capabilities by 2010 and ISS crew transport capability early in the next decade.
If the demonstrations are successful, NASA plans to procure commercial cargo and crew transport services to support the ISS after the Space Shuttle is retired in 2010. The three teams are led by commercial space services company Spacehab, launch provider Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) and manned spacecraft developer Transformational Space (T/Space).
Spacehab has allied itself with Canadian information systems company MDA and US satellite builder Ball Aerospace & Technologies to propose its Apex transport system – a family of mission-configurable spacecraft compatible with a range of launch vehicles. “Our Apex team provides a non-Shuttle-based, end-to-end space access service,” says Spacehab president and chief executive Michael Kearney.

Critical fuel sensor problems could delay shuttle launch until July.
Top NASA managers will be back in the conference room today, trying to figure out what to do about problems with the new external fuel tank.
The tank is supposed to be used to launch Discovery on May 10th.
However, after arriving earlier this month, it was discovered it has problems with critical fuel sensors.
If NASA decides to replace those sensors, the next mission would likely have to be delayed until July.
Mission managers haven`t made any decisions yet, saying they want to give engineers more time to review their options.

NASA Selects Crew and Cargo Transportation to Orbit Partners
NASA selected SpaceX, El Segundo, Calif. and Rocketplane-Kistler, Oklahoma City, to develop and demonstrate commercial orbital transportation services that could open new markets and pave the way for contracts to launch and deliver crew and cargo to the International Space Station.
NASA and the two companies signed Space Act Agreements that establish milestones and objective criteria to assess their progress throughout Phase 1 of the competition. Once a capability is demonstrated, NASA plans to purchase crew and cargo delivery services competitively in Phase 2.
"NASA is proud to work with SpaceX and Rocketplane-Kistler as they endeavor to take American entrepreneurial spirit to new heights,” said NASA's Exploration Systems Mission Directorate Associate Administrator Scott Horowitz. "When commercial enterprises turn the journey to low-Earth orbit into a profit-making business model, NASA will be free to focus on goals that are more appropriate for government, such as exploration of the moon and Mars."
In Phase 1, the companies will demonstrate a combination of four capabilities: external (unpressurized) cargo delivery and disposal; internal (pressurized) cargo delivery and disposal; internal cargo delivery and return; and an option for crew transportation.
“These companies were selected from a total of 20 applicants, based on solid engineering of innovative concepts and sound business plans,” said Alan Lindenmoyer, manager of the Commercial Crew and Cargo Program Office at the Johnson Space Center, Houston.

"Providing a full complement of processing and facility services for a new series of NASA exploration, observation, and technology development spacecraft is exciting," stated Jim Royston, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Astrotech Space Operations. "We understand the intricacies of preparing these delicate satellites for launch, and we look forward to supporting the Agency on these bold missions."
Last September Astrotech received a similar contract from NASA, valued at up to $4.9 million, to support the Agency's STEREO, THEMIS, and Dawn missions. STEREO, a solar-terrestrial observation spacecraft currently in process at Astrotech's east coast location, is anticipated to liftoff next month. With an expected arrival at the Company's facility in October, the THEMIS mission is designed to study the Northern Lights. NASA's mission to further study the solar system's beginnings, Dawn, will visit Astrotech for processing in spring 2007, and is expected to begin its journey to space next summer.
Astrotech provides all support necessary for the customer to successfully process their spaceflight hardware for launch, including advance planning; use of unique facilities; and spacecraft checkout, encapsulation, fueling, transport, and remote control through launch. In its 22-year history, Astrotech has supported the processing of over 240 spacecraft without a single impact to a customer's mission launch schedule.

SPACEHAB Subsidiary Wins $20.0 Million Spacecraft Facility Contract
Tuesday November 14, 9:40 am ET
Additional Spacecraft Accommodations to be Developed in California
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SPACEHAB, Incorporated (NASDAQ:SPAB - News), a leading provider of commercial space services, announced today that its Astrotech Space Operations subsidiary has been awarded a $20.0 million contract to design and build a payload processing facility for the U.S. Government, Office of Space Launch.
This facility, to be used for pre-launch spacecraft processing, will be located on the Company's existing 60-acre site at Vandenberg Air Force Base and will enhance the West Coast capabilities already provided. Under a firm fixed-price contract with the Government, design work begins immediately with construction commencing March 2007 and concluding September 2009. Under the terms of the contract, the Company will design and construct the facility to government requirements while maintaining ownership and operation of the facility.
"This contract not only gives us the means to support the needs of this latest customer, but helps us grow our operations and service offerings to all customers on the West Coast," said Jim Royston, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Astrotech. The Company currently owns and operates a full-service facility for processing satellites and upper stages at Vandenberg Air Force Base, supporting expendable Atlas, Delta, Pegasus, and Taurus launches from the Western Range. The new facility will include 8,000 square feet of additional capacity that enables the processing of payloads that will utilize up to five-meter fairings.
The Company was awarded a $1.2 million contract in May 2006 to perform the feasibility study and preliminary design for this payload processing facility. The contract called for an engineering and concept development report for a new processing facility and associated infrastructure. As intended, this effort led to the contract award for final design and construction of the processing facility.
Astrotech has extensive experience in designing, building, and operating spacecraft processing facilities. The Company's Titusville, Florida location is situated on a 62-acre tract approximately three miles west of Kennedy Space Center, adjacent to the Spacecoast Regional Airport. This complex consists of nine major buildings dedicated to spacecraft non-hazardous processing, hazardous processing, payload storage, warehouse storage, and customer office accommodations. With over 150,000 square feet of facility space, Astrotech processes virtually all U.S.-based commercial spacecraft at this location and a considerable percentage of government payloads.

SPACEHAB Reports Financial Results for Third Quarter Fiscal Year 2007
SPACEHAB posted a third quarter fiscal 2007 net loss of $1.2 million, or $0.09 per share, on revenue of $12.2 million compared with a third quarter fiscal 2006 net loss of $1.7 million, or $0.13 per share, on revenue of $12.4 million.
"Although the staff reductions completed in January are expected to contribute to significant savings for the Company in the long term, severance costs incurred for the restructuring, in the amount of approximately $450,000, were booked during the third quarter," said SPACEHAB Chief Financial Officer, Brian Harrington. Also during the period, the Company dismissed its claims against NASA for losses resulting from the Space Shuttle Columbia accident which is expected to result in the reduction of legal expenses for future periods.
Additionally, due to the Sea Launch accident on January 30, 2007 impacting the Odyssey launch platform and subsequent missions on the manifest, a contracted mission scheduled to be processed by Astrotech in March was delayed until October.
Nine Months Results
SPACEHAB's net loss for the nine months ended March 31, 2007 was $3.1 million, or $0.24 per share, on revenue of $39.9 million compared to a net loss of $12.4 million, or $0.98 per share, on revenue of $36.2 million for the first nine months of the prior fiscal year.
The previous nine month period loss included a non-cash charge of $6.3 million as the Company wrote down the book value of one of its two pressurized space shuttle modules and changed the depreciable life of its remaining space shuttle assets to align with NASA's current launch manifest that anticipates retiring the space shuttle fleet at the end of 2010. The incurred revenue for the current nine month period, resulting from the Company's support of three Space Shuttle missions concurrently, two of which employed a combined module and pallet configuration, as well as lower interest expense from the Company's November 2005 note exchange tender, contributed to the reduction in net loss for the current period.
According to Astrotech's original base contract with Lockheed Martin for satellite processing support, which guarantees Astrotech revenue four Lockheed Martin missions per calendar year, Astrotech had the opportunity to then contract with other Atlas customers for use of its facilities and services. In accordance with this clause, Astrotech signed contracts with The Boeing Company to process its STP-1 mission and two Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) missions. Space Test Program-1 (STP-1) was processed and successfully launched within this period and the first WGS mission is currently scheduled for processing and liftoff in late summer. To fulfill our contractual obligation with Lockheed Martin, Astrotech credited the Lockheed Martin customer $2.6 million of the guaranteed mission revenue for calendar year 2006.
Liquidity
On March 31, 2007 SPACEHAB's cash and short-term investments were approximately $19.5 million, including restricted cash of $7.2 million. Restricted cash reflects payments in advance of milestones achieved on a contract to provide customer-specific pre-launch facilities at the Company's Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) location.
For the nine months ended March 31, 2007, the Company generated $15.2 million of cash from operating activities. Cash flow from operations benefited from the Company's outstanding lease payments for the Integrated Cargo Carrier (ICC) and Vertical Cargo Carrier (VCC) assets in the amount of $3.7 million. Cost incurred for integration and operations services provided by Astrium on the STS-118 mission are also included in accounts payable and accrued expenses as of March 31, 2007 and will represent cash outflows upon expected payment during the fourth quarter.
The Company also invoiced its Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) customer for $3.1 million for flight insurance on SPACEHAB hardware manifested for the STS-118 mission. The payment is due to the insurance carrier 30 days prior to launch. Also included in cash flow from operations is $7.2 million received by the Company which is held in restricted cash as previously discussed.
As of March 31, 2007 SPACEHAB carried a contract backlog of $33.5 million which represents the expected value of contractually-committed work - portions of which are subject to the Space Shuttle's launch schedule or future government funding decisions.
Our ability to redeem our maturing debt of $10.3 million in October 2007 and to execute new business initiatives will be dependent upon our ability to re-negotiate leases for our space assets and attract and implement new business initiatives.
Update of Ongoing Operations
From both its Houston and Cape Canaveral locations, the Company's Flight Services team continues payload processing support for its last scheduled Space Shuttle mission, STS-118. Although the launch has slipped from a June 2007 to August 2007 liftoff, the Company anticipates an equitable adjustment from the CMC customer to compensate for additional costs associated with the delay. During the 14-day mission, the Space Shuttle Endeavor will carry SPACEHAB's Logistics Single Module (LSM) to and from the International Space Station (ISS) utilizing its 1,100 cubic feet of pressurized cargo storage space in support of critical resupply requirements. SPACEHAB's External Stowage Platform-3 has a one way ticket to the ISS on this mission as Endeavor and her crew will deploy the platform from the shuttle's cargo bay onto the orbiting laboratory as another permanent spare parts facility for station dwellers.
Astrotech Space Operations currently has two missions in work at its three nation-wide locations. The January Sea Launch mission malfunction impacted the third quarter reporting period and launches scheduled for processing at the Home Port facilities in the fourth quarter have now slipped until October further impacting revenue for the next two quarters.
In addition to its high-scoring configuration and data management (CM/DM) support to the Program Integration and Control subcontract, SPACEHAB Government Services recently received a contract extension for CM/DM work through September 2007 in support of United Space Alliance and the Constellation Program. The extension brings the total contract amount to $1.1 million.
Finally, as announced last month, SPACEHAB intends to apply its 22-year heritage in payload processing, space access, and experience with space science to the promising yet unexploited field of microgravity manufacturing. "By advancing our recognized core competencies and through the development of key partnerships," began SPACEHAB President and CEO, Thomas B. Pickens, III, "the Company is exploring opportunities to manufacture pharmaceuticals and materials in microgravity for distribution into the commercial marketplace. The time is now for Earth's inhabitants to begin reaping the benefits from the ISS and the unique microgravity environment this laboratory provides for life saving advancements on the verge of fruition."
NASA in Deals With 3 Space Flight Firms

NASA Signs Info Sharing Agreements With 3 Commercial Space Flight Firms
WASHINGTON (AP) -- NASA on Monday said it signed information sharing agreements with three companies interested in commercial space travel, under a program that will enable the space agency to focus on long-range exploration to the moon and Mars.
NASA signed unfunded Space Act agreements with SpaceDev Inc. of Poway, Calif., Houston-based Spacehab Inc. and Constellation Services International of Laguna Woods, Calif.
Under the pacts, NASA will share information to help the companies understand projected requirements for International Space Station crew and cargo transportation launch vehicles, spacecraft and human rating criteria.
The program's goals are to aid U.S. industry's development of access to low Earth orbit, and to create a commercial space transportation services market for government and private customers, according to NASA.
The space agency in January signed similar unfunded agreements with Reston, Va.-based Transformational Space Corp. and PlanetSpace Inc. of Chicago, and last year inked funded deals with Space Exploration Technologies of El Segundo, Calif., and Oklahoma City-based Rocketplane Kistler.
After the companies demonstrate safe and reliable systems, NASA said it may purchase transportation services to supply the International Space Station.

RELEASE: 07-228
NASA to Open New Competition for Space Transportation Seed Money
WASHINGTON - NASA announced Thursday it will conduct a new competition for funding that remains in NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services Project, known as COTS.
The new competition follows NASA's decision to terminate its funded agreement with aerospace firm Rocketplane Kistler of Oklahoma City, which repeatedly failed to meet agreed-upon milestones in its effort to develop and demonstrate commercial transportation capabilities to low Earth orbit. NASA informed Rocketplane Kistler Thursday of its decision in a letter signed by Associate Administrator for Exploration Systems Rick Gilbrech.
"NASA remains fully committed to the COTS Project," said Alan Lindenmoyer, who as manager of the Commercial Crew and Cargo Program Office oversees the COTS Project.
"We'll be releasing a synopsis for the new competition Friday and the full announcement for a new round of industry proposals on Monday."
Companies will have 30 days to respond to Monday's announcement, and NASA intends to enter into one or more new COTS agreements early next year. Companies that are U.S. commercial providers, as defined in the Commercial Space Act, will be eligible.
COTS provides seed money to companies when they reach performance milestones to help them design and develop space transportation capabilities that could pave the way for private cargo deliveries to the International Space Station. Of the $206.8 million NASA agreed to invest in Rocketplane Kistler, the company received a total of $32.1 million. The remaining $174.7 million will be offered to aerospace firms in a new competition.
"A vibrant commercial space industry will help NASA fulfill its promise to support the International Space Station, retire the space shuttle and return humans to the moon," Lindenmoyer said.
In 2006, NASA chose two companies to receive COTS funding: Rocketplane Kistler and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX, of El Segundo, Calif. Both companies signed Space Act Agreements with the agency that detailed mutually agreed-upon financial and technical milestones, as well as a payment schedule based on those requirements.
In late May, Rocketplane Kistler missed the fourth milestone, a second round of private financing, in its COTS agreement. After months of discussions with the company, NASA officially notified Rocketplane Kistler in early September of its failure to perform. The agency decided to terminate the Rocketplane Kistler agreement when, after careful consideration, NASA concluded that further efforts were not in the agency's best interest. NASA followed the process for termination that was spelled out in the Space Act Agreement.
NASA's other funded COTS partner, SpaceX, is current on all of its financial and technical milestones. NASA also has unfunded COTS agreements with five other companies.

@tradus,

Was bleibt mir auch anderes übrig.
