mit sehr niedrigem KGV und sehr hoher Dividendenrendite (d.h., dieses Jahr gab es für jede 10 Aktie eine neue).
Die Aktie hatte bereits Höchststände von 11 DM und wurde mehrmals von ubfconsult zum Kauf empfohlen. Die letzte Kaufempfehlung gab es bei 1,05 Euro.
Die Zukunft des Unternehmens sehe ich durchaus positiv. Fraglich ist mir allerdings ob man beim derzeitigen Kurs (welcher eigentlich zu früher und den derzeitigen Gewinnen des Unternehmens noch niedrig ist), noch nachkaufen sollte?

Infolge der Währungsturbulenzen hat Charoen letztes Jahr ein Rekordergebnis erzielt, was aus meiner Sicht im derzeitigen Kurs-Gewinn-Verhältnis noch keine richtige Bewertung gefunden hat. Bin langfristig weiterhin positiv gestimmt, da fundamental bei diesem Wert alles in Ordnung ist.

bei CPF (CHAROEN POKPH.) hat es keinen Aktiensplitt gegeben. Der Kurseinbruch resultiert primär aus der Ankündigung der CPF eine Kapitalerhöhung 1:1 zu einem Kurs von 10,- Baht durchzuführen. Und das bei einem damaligen Kurs von ca. 90,- Baht.

The Board of Directors` Meeting of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public
Company Limited No. 43/2543 held on August 16, 2000 has passed the following
significant resolutions:
1. Approved to change the dividend payout policy as follows:
"The Board of Directors of the Company has a policy to pay the
shareholders an annual dividend of approximately 50% of net profit after deduction of
applicable income tax, legal reserve and interim dividend payment each year. In addition,
the Board of Directors also has a policy to pay interim dividends on a quarterly basis on
the condition that the Company has enough profit to do so.
However, such annual and interim dividend payments may be
adjusted in some circumstances according to the operating results, financial position and
future investment projects of the Company, as well as overall economic situation."
2.Approved to pay an interim cash dividend from the net profit for the
six-month period ended June 30, 2000 at Baht 2.50 per share. This dividend will be
appropriated from the net profit from businesses which do not have tax exemption
privilege. The payment of this interim dividend will be made on September 15, 2000 to
the shareholders whose names appear in the share register book as of August 30, 2000.
3.The share register book of the Company shall be closed on 12.00 hrs.

Charoen Popkhand Foods (CPF) ist ein absoluter Bluechip unter den Thaiwerten und wird regelmaessig auf den ersten 10 Plaetzen der TOP 500 in SE-Asia gefuehrt.

Das der Wert in Deutschland kaum gehandelt wird, liegt daran, dass keiner bei diesen geringen Preisen verkaufen moechte .
Hier in Thailand ist er immer unter den 10 Umsatz staerksten Stocks zu finden.

Muss mein letztes Posting revidieren .

Der Vorstand hat gestern entschieden die Dividenden alle 3 Monate auszuzahlen und nicht mehr halbjaehrlich. Also muesste das naechste mal Anfang Maerz wieder die Kasse klingeln. Es gibt aber eine Frist fuer die Dividenden. Es wird immer nur an die Aktionaere ausbezahlt die bis zu einem gewissen Tag X im Aktionaersbuch stehen.

Bei der letzten Zahlung am 5. Dezember (oder war`s der 6te???) mustest Du die Aktie schon am 25 November haben und eingetragen sein.

Uebrigens war CPF gestern mal wieder der umsatzstaerkste Wert in Thailand und ist, entgegen der Markttendenz, was typisch fuer CPF ist, um 20 Satang gestiegen auf 5,4 Baht.

Marktberichte Asien (Thailand): Elektronikwerte in Thailand gesucht - Delta - +6,5 % -


Mit einem erfreulichen Wochenausklang aufwarten kann heute die Börse in Thailand. Der SET-Index notiert zur Schlussglocke mit 3,25
Punkten oder einem prozentualen Aufschlag von 1,01 % konfortabel als einziger Markt neben Australien in der Gewinnzone.
Vor allem die Nachfrage nach ausgesuchten Hochtechnologiewerten kann dem Markt zu dem deutlichen Anstieg verhelfen.
Hier griffen die Anleger heute beherzt vor dem demnächst anstehenden Ergebniszahlen in Hoffnung auf höher als ursprünglich erwartet
gut ausfallende Ergebnisse zu.
Ganz vorne in der Gunst der Anleger fand sich heute unter anderem eine Delta Electronics (907981), der weltgrösste Hersteller von
Computernetzteilen mit einem Kursplus von satten 2,25 oder 6,5 % auf 37 thailändische Baht ein. Die Nachricht über einen um 23 %
gestiegenen Absatz gegenüber dem Vorjahresmonat auf ein Volumen von über 65 Millionen Dollar kann der Aktie den nötigen
Rückenwind schenken.

Zusätzlich kann der Sektor heute allgemein in der Hoffnung auf eine anziehenden US-Nachfrage heute fester tendieren. Die USA stellen
für Thailand im Hochtechnologiebereich den grössten Exportmarkt dar. Hana Microelectronics (886863) verbessert sich um 1,50 oder
1,7 % auf 91,50 Baht und K.R. Precision (904205) kann um 0,08 oder 1,8 % auf 4,54 Baht zulegen. Cal-Comp Electronics (602344) legt
um 0,75 oder 2,2 % auf 35 Baht zu.

Im Vorfeld möglicherweise demnächst anstehender Divendenerhöhungen können die Lebensmittelhersteller über eine anziehende
Nachfrage berichten. Thai Union Frozen Products (912297) , Thailands zweitgrösster Thunfischproduzent kann sich um satte 0,6 oder
3,3 % auf 18,70 Baht verbessern. Charoen Pokphand Foods (885591) Südostasiens grösster Tierfutterproduzent kann sich um 0,1 oder
1,7 % auf 5,85 Baht verbessern.

CPF war gestern die einzigste Aktie von meinen 10 Favoriten, die trotz einem schwaecherem Marktumfeld, noch auf der Gewinnerseite stand.

na bis jetzt ist es doch gut gelaufen. Es gibt kaum einen Kursverlauf, der gerade nach oben schießt.
Also Faktor Zeit mit einbauen.
NBei Banpu habe ich auch lange gewartet. Bei CPF ging es jetzt schneller. Bin bei 13 Cent eingestiegen und heute steht sie immer noch bei uns bei 18 Cent und in Thailand bei 7,25 Baht = 19 Cent.

Hi,

nee bei der Aktie stimmt wenig, deswegen hab ich sie im letzten Jahr auch mit Verlust verkauft.
Der für mich entscheidende Grund war, die Garnelenfischerei, die zum größten Teil CPF in Thailand gehört.

Diese Fischerei ist verantwortlich für eine massive Verschmutzung küstennaher Gewässer in Südostasien mit Antibiotika sowie Überdüngung.
Den ortsansässigen Menschen, die von normaler Fischerei leben, wird damit die Lebensgrundlage entzogen.
Der Gewinn wird in Ländern der 1.Welt gemacht und wir futtern die ganzen Antibiotika auch noch auf...

Ich hatte die Möglichkeit mich letztes Jahr vor Ort zu informieren, weil ich beruflich dort zu tun hatte (aber anderer Bereich).

Eine Firma mit diesem Geschäftsgebahren im eigenen Land wie Charoen hat meines Erachtens keine langfristige Zukunft, es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit bis irgendeine Organisation zum Boykott des Garnelenkaufs aufruft und dann ist es mit den Gewinnen vorbei.

Man darf nicht vergessen, dass in Thailand die Uhren immer noch anders gehen.

Nee im Ernst, als ich mir das vor Ort angesehen habe, ist mir schlecht geworden, d.h. für mich, dass ich daraus meine Sclüsse ziehe und mein Geld woanders investiere. Dasist ein freies Land und für mich waren diese Gründe ausschlaggebend.
Ich glaube allerdings, dass sich sowas irgendwann auch auf den Kurs niederschlägt.

sicher,wenn man alles selbst gesehen hat, ist es anders, Aber im Grunde genommen darfst du dann überhaupt keine Aktien kaufen. Es gibt sicher noch andere Kritieren, die genau so schlimm sind wie Umweltverschmutzung etc., z. B. Ausbeutung. Dann eben in Zinspapiere anlegen! Und wer mach dort Kasse - na klar, wie immer, die Banken letztendlich.

The Board of Directors of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company
Limited (CPF) passed the following resolutions at the meeting No. 8/2545 on March 6,
2002:

1. Approved the annual dividend for the year 2001 at Baht 0.12 per share for
the 3,820,536,390 shares, totaling Baht 458,464,366.80. The dividend will be paid on
April 29, 2002 from the profit of tax-exempted businesses under the Investment
Promotion Act B.E.2520. The share register book of the Company will be closed on
March 28, 2002 to determine the right to receive the dividend.

2. Approved the issuance of warrants to purchase ordinary shares of the
Company in the amount not exceeding 477,133,492 units offered to shareholders, whose
names appear on the share register book as of April 26, 2002, at the ratio of 10 ordinary
shares to 1 unit of warrant (fractions of warrant shall be discarded). The preliminary
details of the warrants are as follows:
Category of warrants : Warrants to purchase ordinary shares of
CPF No. 2
Maturity of warrants : 3 years from the issue date
Offered to : existing shareholders at the ratio of 10
ordinary shares to 1 unit of warrant
(fractions of warrant shall be discarded)
Offering price : Baht 0 per unit

warrants in all aspects, which includes contact, preparation, execution, delivery of
documents, and applications with the Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) and/or the SET, for instance.
In addition, the offering of warrants to existing shareholders requires the
submission of application for approval of an offer to sell newly issued warrants and
newly issued shares reserved for the exercise of warrants, the registration statement and
draft prospectus to the SEC after the shareholders approve the issuance and offering of
the warrants. Therefore, the offering of such warrants will be carried out after the
Company obtains approval from the SEC and the registration statement and draft
prospectus become effective.

3. Approved the reduction of the registered capital of the Company from
Baht 6,233,500,000 to Baht 5,909,301,925 by canceling 314,198,075 authorized but
unissued ordinary shares in order to increase the registered capital to other amount.

4. Approved the amendment to Clause 4. of the Memorandum of
Association of the Company to conform with the reduction of the registered capital by
repealing the existing wording and replacing it with the following wording:
"Clause 4. The registered capital is Baht 5,909,301,925 (Baht Five
billion nine hundred and nine million three hundred and one thousand nine hundred and
twenty-five) divided into 5,909,301,925 shares (Five billion nine hundred and nine
million three hundred and one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five shares) with a par
value of Baht 1 (Baht One) each, consisting of 5,909,301,925 ordinary shares (Five
billion nine hundred and nine million three hundred and one thousand nine hundred and

5. Approved the increase of registered capital of the Company from Baht
5,909,301,925 to Baht 8,658,233,885 by issuing 2,748,931,960 new ordinary shares.

6. Approved the amendment to Clause 4. of the Memorandum of
Association of the Company to conform with the increase of the registered capital by
repealing the existing wording and replacing it with the following wording:
"Clause 4. The registered capital is Baht 8,658,233,885 (Baht Eight
billion six hundred and fifty eight million two hundred and thirty three thousand eight
hundred and eighty five) divided into 8,658,233,885 shares (Eight billion six hundred

7. Approved the allotment of 2,748,931,960 new ordinary shares of the
Company as follows:
exercise of the warrants offered to existing shareholders whose names appear in the
shareholders register book as of April 26, 2002, whereby 1 unit of warrant will be
entitled to the purchase of 5 new ordinary shares at the exercise price of Baht 4 per
share as mentioned in item No. 2.
7.2 197,907,325 shares shall be allotted as additional shares for
supporting the exercise of the warrants issued to Charoen Pokphand Group Company
Limited (CPF-W) in case there is any change in the exercise ratio.
7.3 165,357,175 shares shall be allotted as additional shares for
supporting the exercise of the warrants issued to existing shareholder No.1 (CPF-W1) in
case there is any change in the exercise ratio.

8. Approved the amendment to the Article of Association of the
Company in order to regulate the procedure related to connected transactions and
acquisition and disposition of substantial assets, by adding the following:
"Article 39. In case the Company or any subsidiary agrees to enter
into a connected transaction or a transaction related to acquisition or disposal of
substantial assets of the Company or of the subsidiary as defined under the notifications
of the Stock Exchange of Thailand governing connected transactions of listed companies
or the acquisition or disposal of the assets of listed companies, as the case may be, then
the Company shall comply with the criteria and procedures as prescribed by the said
notifications."

9. Acknowledged the resignation of directors of the Company, namely
Mr. Thirayut Phitya-Isarakul, Mr. Thanakorn Seriburi and Mr. Umroong
Sanphasitvong, effective from March 15,2002. In addition, 2 other directors, Dr. Ajva

Du weisst, dass ch immer positiv zu CPF stand.
ABER, bitte vergiss nicht die dumme Kapitalerhoehung April 1999 (?), die danach, psychologisch bedingt, den Kurs um ca 75 - 80 % in die Knie zwang!
Ausserdem laugfen die Warrants Mitte dieses Jahres aus, was eine Kapitalverwaesserung von 30% mit sich bringt!
Denk mal drueber nach

Grund: Die Huehnerkrankheit in Japan, Korea und Hong Kong, sowie die eroeffnung der CP Mall in Shanghai und die Restaurantkette Bua Baan in China

Der CPF-W1 ist doch ziemlich egal.
Die Basis von 6 THB liegt doch sehr nah am aktuellen Kurs.
Wenn das Geld ebenfalls rentabel angelegt wird ist doch alles OK.

Ich wiederhole mich gerne. Langfristig ist CPF sehr positiv zu bewerten, aber...

Erstmal faellt der Gewinn pro Aktie, da das Geld ja erst investiert werden muss und rentabel arbeiten muss.

Nimm als Beispiel die Kapitalerhoehung von April 1999 bei CPF.

Damals "fiel" die Aktie von 4 EURO auf 2 EURO, da das Grundkapital verdoppelt wurde. Das Kapital arbeitete nicht sofort und der Wert fiel weiter, bis auf einen EURO.

Ist nicht aus heutiger Sicht anzunehmen, dass die geplante Kapitalerhöhung bereits in dem Kurs berücksichtigt ist???

Mehr oder weniger bewegt sich die Aktie seit geraumer Zeit (zumindest die in D gehandelten CPF) nicht mehr.
Interessant in diesem Zusammenhang zu beobachten: Obwohl die Wirtschaftswoche vor rund einem Monat eine relativ grosse Empfehlung für den Wert aussprach, auch dort wurde explizit auf die bevorstehende Kapitalerhöhung hingewiesen, hat sich CFP kaum verändert bzw. sogar leicht ermässigt.

Wie gesagt: Meine Gedankengänge bezeihen sich nur auf die Kapitalerhöhung, da langfristig ohnedies ausser Frage steht, dass der Wert ausgezeichnet ist.

Interessante Ansicht, nur vermute ich eher, dass die Aktie im Moment eher hochgepusht wurde.

Grund: CPF will natuerlich die Aktionaere "ermutigen" Ihre Optionen Warrants auszuueben um die Kohle zu bekommen.

Anfang des Jahres stand CPF bei ca. 4,5 Baht. Bin mir da aber nicht ganz sicher. Und dann ging es bergauf. Die wichtige 6 Baht Marke musste ja erklommen werden.

CPS ist ein sehr gutes und langfristiges Investment, aber ich wuerde halt noch ein bisschen Warten und NACH der Kapitalerhoehung wieder einsteigen.

Ein Kapitalverwaesserung kann uebrigens nicht in den Kursen drinnen sein, da dies sich erst bei der Kapitalerhoehung auswirkt, bzw. beim Listing der Neuen Aktien.

Und wir reden hier von einer Groessenordnung von 30% des Grundkapitals. Also etwas was man nicht vernach laessigen sollte.

Danke Dir für Deine Antwort.

Die Grössenordnung, Du berichtest von 30 %, bringt mich tatsächlich ins grübeln. Ist ziemlich viel, da stimme ich Dir zu.

Vielleicht sollte man einfach die Zukäufe zurückstellen und im Bestand befindliche Anteile der CPF halten.
Da es sich um ein langfristiges Investment handelt, kann man dann hinterher, sollte der von Dir geschilderte Zustand eintreten, relativ günstiger nachfassen und sich, sollte es eben nicht so sein (Gewissheit gibt es nunmal nicht beim Aktienhandel), über die Kursgewinne freuen.

Erinnert mich ein bisschen an die derzeitige Situation am russischen Aktienmarkt, der eigentlich durch die Ölwerte auch nach einer Korrektur schreit, doch man einfach halten sollte, was man hat und Zukäufe bis zu einer klareren Beurteilung der weltpolitischen Lage (RU als Krisengewinnler wg. des Ölpreises/Nahost) zurückstellt.
Dies nur als gedanklicher Ausflug.

Hi laigueglia,

ich habe meine CPF schon alle nach der letzten Dividendenzahlung abgebaut. Jetzt habe ich noch Aktien, die ich durch die Ausuebung meiner Warrants habe.

Diese kann ich im Moment eh nicht verkaufen und will ich auch nicht, da ich am 25 oder 26 April fuer 10 Aktien einen Warrant bekomme (Siehe unten oder auf der SET Webpage).

Jetzt rate mal warum der Bezugspreis der NEUEN Warrants (CPF-W2) bei 4 Baht ligt und somit "zufaellig" 33,3% UNTER der Bezugspreis der alten Warrants (CPF-W1).

Bestimmt nicht weil die bei CPF so nette Menschen sind

Also, werde ich meine neuen Aktien Ende April oder Anfang Mai auch noch verscherbel und kann mich, falls ich mich getaeuscht haben sollte, wieder ueber die Warrants zu 4 Baht eindecken.

Sollte ich recht haben, kann ich mich auch ueber den Markt eindecken und komme so in den Genuss von einer hohen Dividendenrendite.

Was haelst Du von der Strategie???

Der Anspruch auf Einbuchung der CPF-OS ist heute entstanden, der Zeitpunkt der tatsächlichen Einbuchung ist dabei unerheblich.

Für 1 OS kann man 5 CPF-Aktien für je 4 THB beziehen. Bei einem aktuellen Kurs von 5,90 THB ist ein OS also 9,50 THB wert. dies gleicht den heutigen Kursverlust bis auf 1,3 % aus.

Da ein OS mit 3 Jahren Laufzeit eigentlich mit Aufgeld gehandelt werden sollte, ist der Wert sogar noch höher.

das habe ich mir gedacht, dass Du dich so reich rechnest .

Naja, dann gehen wir die Sache mal vernueftig an. Deine Argumentation ist ja nicht schlecht, hat aber einige Schwachstellen.

1. Wir reden ueber Thailand und mit Logik ist man hier noch nie weit gekommen. Ich kann dir massig Beispiele geben von Warrants, die mit einem Abgeld (!) gehandelt werden. Schau Dir dabei mal den Delta-Warrant an. Ueber den bekommst du die Aktien um ca. 11% BILLIGER als ueber den Direktkauf.

2. Du vermutest, dass der Warrant einen inneren Wert hat. Frage ist hier nur, wie lange dieser noch existiert. Dazu habe ich nun schon oft genug Stellung genommen und ich erwarte, dass CPF den naechsten Stop bei ca. 5,2 Baht macht um danach noch weiter abzustuerzen.

3. Ich nehme mal an, dass Du ein Depot in Deutschland hast. Somit duerfte es sehr schwer fuer Dich sein, den Warrant zu versilbern. Schau Dir in dem Zusammenhang auch mal den CPF-W1 an. Der hatte ueber 2 Jahre keinen "Inneren Wert" und wurde in Deutschland nicht gehandelt.

4. Was meinst Du was passiert, wenn CPF in 6 Monaten (erster "Exercise"-Tag der neuen Warrants) ueber 4 Baht steht? Eine zweite Welle von Kapital stroemt in die Firma und der Wert wird weiter verwaessert.

Crsus, versteh mich nicht falsch, aber diese Risiken sollten jeden eigentlich klar sein und der Kurseinbruch gestern war nur ein erster Warnschuss, aber hier mit "Buchgewinnen" zu argumentieren macht wohl wenig Sinn. Fakt ist, dass gestern CPF um 15% in den Keller ging und dies mit den Warrant sich schoen zu reden macht einfach keinen Sinn.

Ich gehe einfach vom schlimmsten Fall aus, d.h. dass alle OS ausgeübt werden, dann gibt es in 3 Jahren 8,7 Milliarden Aktien. Für mich ist CPF selbst dann noch eine gute Anlage. Wegen meiner bisherigen positiven Erfahrung mit dieser Aktie bin ich vielleich auch etwas voreingenommen.

Wenn OS nicht ausgeübt werden, ist das für die Altaktionäre um so besser (dann gibt es weniger als 8,7 Milliarden Aktien), bei CPF hat es auch schon einmal eine Reduzierung des genehmigten Kapitals gegeben:

CPF in fish-feed venture

Charoen Pokphand Food Plc is investing US$5 million to set up a fish-feed plant in Guangxi in southern China. It is the first 100% offshore investment by the listed food and agribusiness flagship of the CP Group.



The plant in Beihai has an annual capacity to produce 30,000 tons of shrimp feed and 20,000 tons of feed for fish to be marketed locally.

The Chinese government has exempted the venture from corporate tax for five years, starting from the first year of profitability. The firm projects net profit of $10 million over five year, or an average of 9% a year.

CPF also planned to raise turbot in Shandong province and mouse grouper in Hainan, according to president Chingchai Lohawatanakul. The company would developing broodstock and operate hatcheries, selling the output to local farmers.

Turbot is a salt-water fish from Europe that thrives in water temperatures of 16-18 degrees Celsius. It was first introduced to China in 1996 in Shandong. Some 300 farms in the province raise the fish, which sells for about 300 yuan (1,650 baht) per kilogramme. Mouse grouper sells for 800 yuan a kilogramme.

Though the retail price was high, millions of Chinese consumed relatively costly fish, said Pong Visedpaitoon, a CPF vice-president.

The company was the first to raise the two fish species commercially in China with environmentally friendly technology and efficient management and marketing, he said.

The turbot would be distributed along the east coast, including Beijing and Shanghai, while the market for mouse grouper would be mainly in southern regions such as Guangxi and Guangdong.

``We have sent 20 experts and staff from Thailand to China to study the project thoroughly,`` Mr Pong said, declining to discuss the amount of the investment.

CP Group`s interests in China will now focus only on three core businesses _ agriculture, marketing and distribution, and property development.

The group, the very first foreign investor in China after the country opened its door to offshore investments in late 1970s, also planned to sell all non-core businesses, such as a motorcycle plant, if the deals were lucrative enough, said Thirayut Phitya-Israkul, chairman of Chia Tai Group, the flagship company for CP Group`s farm businesses in China.

After the baht was floated in July 1997, Dhanin Chearavanont, the chairman of the CP Group, sold many non-agribusiness ventures in China to reduce the firm`s foreign debts.

After the crisis, the group sold 40% of its shares in Shanghai Ek Chor Motorcycle Co, 35% in Heineken Shanghai Brewery Co, and 50% in Shanghai Boonrawd Brewery to its partners. It also sold its interest in Chia Tai International Telecommunication, a holding firm of APT Satellite Co, the concessionaire for Apstar Satellite in China.

Agriculture remained its key business, with intensive investment plans in the pipeline, said Mr Thirayut.

The Thai conglomerate entered China in 1979 through an investment in animal feed production in Shenzhen. The business reportedly generated about US$3 billion in sales revenue last year, with annual growth projected at 5% to 10%. Earnings from exports accounted for about 10% of the total.

Animal feed still controls half of the sales income although the group has expanded into many other related industries, such as integrated poultry, swines and ducks, seeds, soybean extracting production, farm machinery, and biochemistry.

More than 100 animal feed plants of the group are scattered in 80 cities, spanning 29 provinces. Their combined output accounts for seven million of the total of 80 million tons of feeds consumed each year in China.

Mr Thirayut said the new investment would integrate operations in the 80 cities. Twelve or 13 had already been integrated, ranging from feed and production to marketing.

``For almost 22 years, our agribusiness has received strong support from the Chinese authorities. Beijing regards it as a very important sector, which involves up to 900 million of the country`s 1.3 billion people,`` he said.

Agriculture in China has grown substantially, in line with the economy which posted 7% growth in the first quarter this year.

In relation to large population, CP`s presence is small at less than 10% of the market if poultry and animal feed are taken into consideration.

As for the estate development business, the group invested more than 15 billion baht to build Super Brand Mall in Shanghai last year. The project, developed by its subsidiary, Kinghill Co, opened up a chance for CP to enter the lucrative retailing segment in China. Its Lotus Supercentre store is the magnet at the mall, in addition to the six other outlets. Lotus Supercentre entered retailing in China five years ago.

Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF) has announced plans for a new subsidiary in the United States to import and distribute its products.

The move is designed to help restore the performance of the company in the United States, where sales declined by around 10% last year.

The decline was attributed to a dormant US consumer market and restrictions on imports of poultry and shrimps from Thailand as a result of new standards to detect chemical contamination.

Seafood Enterprises Co, a CPF subsidiary, will set up the new unit, Aqua-Agri Foods International Inc, with paid-up capital of US$3 million or about 130 million baht. It will be located in Wilmington, Delaware.

The goal was to expand distribution channels for seafood under CPF`s own brand names, according to a statement by Chingchai Lohawatanakul, president and chief executive of CPF.

The new company will also help market chicken products for Charoen Pokphand (USA) Inc, another subsidiary of CPF in the United States.

CP-USA was set up to operate an integrated broiler business in Alabama to slaughter around one million chickens a week for the domestic market with sales of around US$100 million per year.

Last year was a disappointing one for CPF due to a number of reasons, according to Merrill Lynch Phatra Securities.

The aquaculture business, in particular shrimp exports and shrimp feed operations, deteriorated in 2002. As well, the company`s livestock division was hurt by weak domestic prices caused by lingering concerns over the quality of chicken exports to the European Union.

In addition, CP-USA continued to disappoint, losing US$13 million in the first nine months of the year.

In a research note, Merrill Lynch Phatra Securities revised down its earnings estimates for CPF to reflect the harsh operating environment in 2002.

It reduced CPF`s forecast net profit from 4.126 billion baht to 3.016 billion baht. The total sales estimate for 2002 was cut by 10% to 72.9 billion baht, mostly due to a decline in sales of both CP-USA and the aquaculture business.

The total gross margin forecast was reduced from 14.3% to 13% as the projected gross margin for CPF`s domestic meat operations was reduced from 10.5% to 5.7%.

The brokerage also revised its earnings estimate for 2003 to reflect its more conservative stance on CPF`s operating prospects. It reduced the company`s net profit forecast by 15%, from 5.028 billion baht to 4.262 billion baht. Projected sales were cut by 13% to 79.6 billion baht and the gross margin forecast was trimmed from 14.6% to 14.1%.

However, the brokerage said a moderate recovery was expected in some of CPF`s business lines.

Domestic chicken prices are expected to rebound from an average of 24.5 baht per kilogramme in 2002 to 26 baht this year. In addition, CPF`s aquaculture division is expected to improve year-on-year, following a forecast rise in shrimp export prices.

``It is also believed that CPF would adopt drastic measures for CP-USA given its disappointing performance over the past three years. It would not surprise us if CPF either restructures or closes this operation in 2003,`` said Merrill Lynch Phatra.

CPF shares closed yesterday at 4.22 baht, up 0.06 baht, in turnover worth 32.6 million baht.

Diese ganzen Broker empfehlungen hier in Thailand sind ja ehh nur zum Weinen. Dimtik hat darueber ja schon mal in einem anderen thread berichtet. Die empfehlen ja lieber solche Pleitegeier wie UBC oder andere Hop oder Top Unternehmen.

However, the brokerage said a moderate recovery was expected in some of CPF`s business lines.

Domestic chicken prices are expected to rebound from an average of 24.5 baht per kilogramme in 2002 to 26 baht this year. In addition, CPF`s aquaculture division is expected to improve year-on-year, following a forecast rise in shrimp export prices.

``It is also believed that CPF would adopt drastic measures for CP-USA given its disappointing performance over the past three years. It would not surprise us if CPF either restructures or closes this operation in 2003,`` said Merrill Lynch Phatra.

CPF shares closed yesterday at 4.22 baht, up 0.06 baht, in turnover worth 32.6 million baht.

Warrants wurden alle eingeloest.

Jetzt muss man noch die Zulassung der Aktien am Handel abwarten und dann sollte das schlimmste bei CPF vorbei sein.

Group achieves textbook status at Harvard

The Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group), the country`s largest conglomerate, has come to be accepted as a global company after being chosen for case studies by several top Western business schools.

The first Thai firm to become the subject of case studies at America`s prestigious Harvard Business School and France- and Singapore-based Insead, CP is feeling the pressure of the extra time demands on a number of its top executives just as the year begins as they take turns offering instruction via Internet video conferencing.

Early on Tuesday morning some were at TelecomAsia headquarters addressing 200 Harvard students.

Taking part were senior executives such as executive vice president Sarasin Virapol, chief operating officer Adirek Sripratak and deputy Group CFO Umroong Sanphasitvong.

The class, supervised by Professor Ray Goldberg, quizzed the CP chiefs on a number of issues concerning the firm`s operations in China, how the company overcame the 1997 economic crisis and how it plans to become the "kitchen of the world" and further expand its business.

Such globalised case studies were popularised by the Harvard Business School and have become a widely used educational tool among students and corporate executives in the US.

CP on Wednesday welcomed 30 students from the Columbia University Business School led by Professor David Beim and had a Thai MBA student, Thanate Aiyaranaparak, coordinating the discussion.

The executives were questioned about the managerial challenges they faced when CP expanded into other countries in Asia, about the advantages of conglomerate structure in emerging markets, their plans for the future and, again, the firm`s strategy for becoming the world`s kitchen.
