Humbly Grove Gas Storage Project
It is estimated that, due to the decline in indigenous gas reserves, the UK will be importing 50% of its gas requirements by the end of this decade. The UK government has underscored the need to increase Britain's gas storage capacity to accommodate the increasing quantities of imported gas, and Star Energy is responding to the call by developing a 10 billion cubic feet gas store at Humbly Grove in Hampshire. It is set to become one of a new generation of gas storage facilities that will help secure UK gas supplies into the future.

- Oil production and enhanced oil recovery from existing wells
- Oil gathering and processing
- Oil transportation
- Gas production.
- Power generation from associated gas production
- Gas storage, using existing depleted oil or gas reservoirs

Environment
i) Responsible and informed
Star Energy recognises the concerns that members of the public may have about how oil production, gas production and gas storage may impact the environment.
We take our environmental responsibilities extremely seriously and strictly adhere to formal Environmental and Safety Management Systems. These systems outline the responsibilities of managers and staff and are administered by full-time Health, Safety and Environment Managers within each of our operating subsidiaries.
Both the Environmental and Safety Management Systems have set goals, objectives and performance standards which are reviewed at least once a year. The company confirms the objectives are met via frequent audit, review and reporting on performance measures. Our operations are also monitored by the Environmental Agency.
This systematic approach ensures total clarity among our workforce with respect to the guidelines we have in place to minimise the environmental impact of our operations. Health, safety and environmental protection is consequently integrated into all of the business activities throughout the company.
ii) Clean operations
We are aware that our oil and gas producing sites are situated in environmentally sensitive areas of Great Britain. We are committed to preserving these landscapes and work closely with planning authorities and local people to minimise the environmental and visual impact of our operations.
Our well bores are located inside specially designated areas whereby any hydrocarbon spill is contained and easily cleaned up without encroaching on the underlying ground. Abandonment of produced fields is undertaken on the basis of returning the landscape to its original condition. We take special care to eradicate any evidence of hydrocarbon extraction activities. In one place, a well being drilled in an area noted for its bird community was suspended for six months in order to avoid disturbing the birds during the crucial nesting season.
A further key planning criterion is the use of natural screens such as trees and soil banks around the oil fields to conceal them from locals and maintain the beauty and integrity of the landscape.
Safety
Our principal health and safety objective is to provide an impeccable standard of safe working environment for employees, contract personnel and members of the general public.
We have in place a formal Safety Management System overseen by specially designated managers who ensure all of our operations adhere to strict safety standards and government policy.
As well as being subject to regular internal reviews and audits, all our operations are also monitored and controlled by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Health and Safety Executive.
Gas storage
While it is crucial to develop gas storage facilities to accommodate the increasing volumes of gas that Britain will import over the coming years, there are legitimate safety concerns attached to such operations. Particular concerns have been raised in the wake of major accidents in China and the US in 2003 and 2004. So just how safe are Star Energy’s gas storage facilities?
Natural stores for natural gas
There are a number of methods of storing gas underground. As highlighted on the Gas Storage page, we are utilising depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs which have naturally stored gas over millions of years. We are essentially re-using the Earth’s own gas containment units to store the new, imported gas. The proven structural integrity of these reservoirs, which have held gas over geological time, makes this the safest method for storing gas underground.
National regulations
Our facilities are designed to adhere to a strict safety code known as the Borehole Regulations. As well as this, our designs are thoroughly vetted by the Health and Safety Executive, whose regulations and guidelines on safety can be found at http://www.hse.gov.uk/gas/supply/information.htm.
RoSPA Awards
Star Energy's excellent safety record in 2004 was recognised through the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents RoSPA Silver Award.
Star Energy was also awarded a 2005 Certificate of Achievement in Behavioural Safety.
The RoSPA awards are aimed at companies wishing to prove that they can demonstrate an effective and systematic approach to managing behavioural aspects of health and safety.
Roger Bibbings, RoSPA Occupational Safety Adviser, said: “Behavioural safety programmes are an important part of the overall health and safety risk management jigsaw.
“By involving managers and staff and enhancing skills and knowledge, organisations can breathe life into their formal health and safety management systems and help to create sustainable safety culture change.
“These awards not only recognise and celebrate achievement, they provide a powerful bank of exemplars and case studies which others can learn from and emulate.”
The RoSPA Awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; they are also about ensuring that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place. They help to reinforce the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrate an organisation's commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.

Terrabyte is positioned to initiate an enhanced secondary recovery
water flood development to produce oil from the Mohican River field
located in the vicinity of the Perry Township, Ashland County, Ohio.
Projected economics for the project are excellent with an estimated
undiscounted net cash flow of $178 million over the next 19.5 years
representing a potential 21:1 profit to investment ratio
The Mohican River field underlies 300 acres with a prospective pay
zone that is up to 195 feet thick not more than 500 to 700 feet below
the surface. Floodable oil in place is estimated to be 12.17 million
barrels from which water flood calculations indicate that recovery
should approximate 34.3% of that estimate or 4.17 million barrels.
However, secondary recovery could range up to 7.3 million barrels
dependent on the ultimate result of the water flood.
A 30 acre pilot is planned that will require capital expenditures
of $2.2 million. Pending the satisfactory performance of the pilot, an
additional $6.57 million will be required for a full field expansion
for a total development cost of $8.79 million or $2.48 per net barrel.
Existing wells on the field will be adequate to produce the water
flood but each will require new, cased well bores to support the
injectors. Ample shallow aquifers within the Mohican River field will
provide the necessary water supply.
