maybach am 07.08.08 zu Inmet:
Company Description:
Inmet Mining Corporation engages in the production, development, and exploration of copper, zinc, and gold worldwide. It owns a 100% interest in Cayeli, a copper and zinc mine located on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey; and a 100% interest in Pyhasalmi, a copper and zinc mine located in central Finland.
The company also holds a 100% interest in the Troilus property, a gold and copper mine, located in northern Quebec, Canada; a 18% interest in Ok Tedi, a copper and gold mine located in the Star Mountains Region in Papua New Guinea; a 70 % interest in the Las Cruces copper project located in southern Spain; a 100% interest in the Cerattepe copper deposit located in northeastern Turkey; and a 48% interest in the Petaquilla copper, gold, and molybdenum property located west of Panama City.
Company Analysis:
The company's Turkish copper project was called a stop by court earlier, and in May, news came that Spain suspended a water permit needed for the Las Cruces copper project, causing delay in ore shipments from the mine. The company later said production from Las Cruces could be delayed into next year.
In seeking other new opportunities, the company made an offer in early July to acquire Petaquilla Copper Ltd., but was rejected because of under-evaluation cited by Petaquilla. Even worse, Inmet Mining's second quarter earnings reported on July 29th dropped by 51% due to lower zinc prices, and management has cut production guidance for 2008 to 93,100 tonnes of copper, 78,700 tonnes of zinc and 268,400 ounces of gold, versus an earlier projection of 103,800 tonnes of copper, 78,700 tonnes of zinc and 284,500 ounces of gold.
Analyst Opinion:
There has been a host of negative news around Inmet Mining since our last assessment on the stock in April.
We are downgrading the stock to a SELL.

Strike and Apurimac plan 20 MTPA iron ore mine in Peru
BNamericas reported that Australia's Strike Resources along with Apurímac Ferrum and two other Peruvian partners are planning to launch a 20 million tonnes per annum iron ore mine in Peru in mid 2012.
A recent pre feasibility study on the project in south central Peru's Apurímac department laid out a USD 2.6 billion CAPEX, 15 year mine life and 20 million tonnes per annum production, making it the largest iron ore mine in Peru.
But before a positive final feasibility study can be carried out for the mine, it must increase the roughly 172 million tonnes of inferred resources grading 62.3% iron ore to at least 300 million tonnes and upgrade the category of mineralization.
Mr Federico Schwalb GM of Apurímac Ferrum said that the study contemplates construction of an open pit, processing plant, a port and a roughly 360 kilometers long pipeline to transport the product from the mine to the port. He added that the companies involved are also considering transporting the product by train.
In addition, the project's partners are involved in a dispute concerning their respective stakes in the property, but which does not impact Apurímac Ferrum and also is not obstructing the advance of the project.
Strike Resources is also involved with Apurímac Ferrum in a project in Cuzco department, which is at a conceptual stage, although exploration is being carried out. Presently Shougang Hierro Perú, which operates in Ica department, is the country's only iron ore producer. Shougang sold 7.71 million tonnes of iron ore in 2007 and is planning to double capacity to 16 million tonnes per annum by mid 2010.

DON’T PANIC!
Platinum – price fall may imply otherwise, but this market’s still in a deficit
Analysis of fundamentals suggests that platinum has been oversold and that the price will bounce back later in the year.

BARGAIN BASEMENT PRICES?
Copper stocks: ripe for action
There is little question that the copper sub-sector offers the biggest diversion between metal prices (firm) and listed stocks (bombed out).
