Pearl Oriental<0988.HK> mulls listing Internet arm

HONG KONG, May 18 (Reuters) - Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Ltd said on Thursday it planned to seek a listing of its Grandcyber Internet unit on Hong Kong`s Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) or on the Nasdaq in the United States.

"Grandcyber is planning its listing on the Nasdaq in the U.S. or the Growth Enterperise Market in Hong Kong. It is in negotiation with a number of investment banks regarding its listing proposal," the company said in a results statement.

It gave no further details.

Pearl Oriental, a property, investment, telecommunications and financial services firm, on Thursday reported a net loss of HK$747.54 million ($95.9 million) for the year ended December 31 1999, compared with a HK$48.28 profit the previous year. Turnover was HK$64.6 million versus HK$145.07 million in 1998. Loss per share was 6.87 Hong Kong cents. The company said it had made a provision of HK$557 million, of which HK$500 million was related to diminution in property values and HK$57 million was related to collateral loans. Pearl said it would dispose of its entire property and hotel property portfolios, apart from retaining some premises of Pearl Oriental Centre for head office of the group and for rental purpose, and would shift its focus to technology businesses.

Pearl Ori Cyber <0988.HK> to spin off 4 units

Wong Kwan, chairman and chief executive of Pearl Ori Cyber, said that the company is considering to spin off four companies on GEM and Nasdaq.

The four companies comprise Global eForce, HKStockLimited, CariPAC.com International and Grand Cyber.

HKStockLimited has applied for GEM Listing and expects to list in the third quarter.

CariPAC.com International however has held off an earlier application to go public but will re-apply for listing in the thrid quarter.

The expected proceeds from the four companies have not been disclosed.

However Mr Kwan said technology business will provide the primary income for the company in 2001.

He added that Lancelot Holdings will launch a new IDD services by the end of this year and this company may reach a turnover of US$3.5 billion (HK$27.3 billion).

Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Limited`s subsidiary, Pearl Oriental Telecom & Technology Ltd has completed restructuring reported the Hong Kong Economic Journal.

The company now plans to expand its telecom market to the mainland and the Pacific Region.

The parent company is holding talks with a number of investment banks to spin off the high-tech unit for a listing on the GEM in Hong Kong or the Nasdaq in the first quarter of the coming year.

An amount of US$100 million (HK$780 million) is expected to be raised in the international capital markets from the separate listing.

Based on the existing strong fundamentals and the development plan, the management estimates the market value of the company to be $2.8 billion to $3 billion.

The restructured subsidiary currently possesses four main logistical operations covering the US, Canada, North Korea and Hong Kong.

It has holdings in Lancelot Holdings (50 pct), pct of Asia Business Communications (65 pct), pct in AIC Group (51 pct) and Mobile One (100 pct).

In preparation for China`s entry into the World Trade Organisation, the company has been pursuing an aggressive program to be the leading telecom operator in the Asia Pacific Rim and has been signing up strategic partners in the mainland

erstmal danke für dein posting ... hab den interim report sehr genau durchgelesen.
die zahlen sind durchgehend besser als letztes jahr. der umsatz stieg um 200% an, nur "leider" schlägt sich das
nicht auf den kurs bzw. den gewinn nieder, da davon wieder das meiste in neue geschäftsfelder investiert wurde.

ich sag nur bleiben wir am ball, bis spätestens ende nächsten jahres sollten sich die investitionen von pearl
bemerkbar machen und wir kommen hoffentlich aus den roten raus.

alte chin. weisheit für pearl-investoren: "ein totes schaf hat keine angst vorm wolf"

Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Limited issued a statement to confirm today`s press reports that chairman Wong Kwan is holding talks with investors to dispose of a stake in the company.

Pearl Ori Cyber (0988-HK) gains $338m from hotels sale

Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Ltd said that it had signed a sale agreement on October 20 for the disposal of two hotels, the Pearl Seaview Hotel and the Pearl Garden Hotel, to a local conglomerate.

The total transaction price amounted to $338 million, comprising $238 million and $100 million for the Pearl Seaview Hotel and the Pearl Garden Hotel respectively.

Completion of both transactions is scheduled to take place on December 29.

"The disposals of the two hotels will improve the leverage ratio of the group by a reduction of secured bank debts by of $230 million," said chairman and chief executive Wong Kwan.

"Net cash of $100 million generated from the disposals, which will be used as working capital, will help to beef up the group`s financing position."

Pearl Ori Cyber`s (0988-HK) Genesis open for global tender

Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Limited has appointed FPDSavills (Hong Kong) Limited as the exclusive agent for the global tender sale of the "Genesis" house.

Tender closing date is December 8.

"Genesis" is strategically situated at No 23 Severn Road, the Peak with total site area of 56,430 square feet and area coverage of 28,000 square feet.

Total gross floor area for the superstructure is 51,000 square feet.

This mansion, one of the most prestigious houses in the world, was acquired by the company for $540 million in 1996.

It has also been reported that the company is considering selling off five blocks of Skyhigh.

Pearl Ori Cyber (0988-HK) seeks firms for Skyhigh project

Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Limited has put out the tender for the Skyhigh redevelopment project with a number of major property consultancy companies, according to Hong Kong Economic Journal.

Wong Kwan, chairman of the company said that a number of blue-chip property companies and international insurance companies have expressed interest in the project.

Colliers Jardine (Hong Kong) Ltd investment department estimates that the market capitalisation of Skyhigh is about $300 million based on $14,000 to $15,000 per sq ft.

The selling price will rise to $20,000 per sq ft if the buyer opts for completed redevelopment.

The bids will close on November 20.

Hallo Ihr lieben PEARL Leitgenossen, bin auch Besitzer von 200000 Stück. Gekauft je 100000 bei 0,04 und 0,02. Ich schaue mal wieder in
2 Jahren wie sich der Kurs entwickelt hat. Mit einer Malaysischen Aktie, Technology Research wurde im Februar 98 von Förtsch empfohlen,
habe ich das schon mal durchgemacht. Gekauft 10000 Stück bei 1,40 DM, lief auch ganz gut, habe aber das Verkaufen vergessen und dann der Absturz bis auf 0,14 DM. Danach wurde der Handel in Malaysia für Ausländer verboten. Hatte die 14000 DM schon abgeschrieben. Im März 2000, als der Handel wieder aufgenommen wurde, stand der Kurs wieder bei 3,20 DM. Also Kopf hoch und durch.

nun ja wie werten wir das? positiv natürlich, sie haben zumindest noch soviel geld um ihre sekretärin zu bezahlen !!! oder hat mr. wong das etwa selber reingetippt.
wie auch immer, ich denke bzw. hoffe, dass wir die nächsten

momentan sieht es nicht gut aus um pearl. ich hoffe der momentane positive börsentrend (in hk) hält weiterhin an und bringt pearl wieder auf kurs. wenn sie nicht hopps gehen und sich die investitionen endlich mal bilanziell (positiv) bemerkbar machen, dann denke ich ist in 2-3 jahren mein einstiegskurs ~0,05€ wieder erreicht.
vielleicht kommt auch alles ganz anders! who knows

Pearl Oriental to Drop `Cyberforce` as Internet Dreams Flounder

Hong Kong, April 21 (Bloomberg) -- Seventeen months after Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Ltd. added an Internet twist to its name, it`s planning to go back to being plain old Pearl Oriental Holdings Ltd., and try to reverse two years of losses.

The change is ``to better reflect the group`s diversified investment strategies which synergize... the new and old economies,`` the company said in a statement.

It might help the share price as well. Having surged 202 percent in the two months after the name change to 57 H.K. cents in January 2000, it has subsequently dropped 97 percent to 13 H.K. cents. Hong Kong`s Growth Enterprise Index for start-ups and technology companies has lost more than half its value from a year ago, and is down 13 percent this year.

Pearl Oriental went from being a Hong Kong property company to investing in North Korean telecommunications services and Chinese Internet portals. Now, after reporting a loss for a second year, the company is planning to cancel unprofitable Internet investments and consolidate what is left.

Like other Hong Kong Internet-related companies, Pearl began investing in Internet companies in 1999 to attract investors eager to buy Web-related companies. At the time, Pearl Chairman Wong Kwan said the board of directors believed technology, telecoms and the Internet were the way of the future.

Not any more. ``It is expected that the immature Internet market will drag on for a few more years,`` the company said.

The company`s loss last year widened to HK$1.11 billion ($142 million), or 8.3 H.K. cents a share, from HK$747.5 million, or 6.9 H.K. cents a share, the year before, due mainly to a HK$868.9 million provision against properties that have lost value.

To stave off more losses, the company has written off goodwill and operating losses from Internet investments so they only carry a book value of a ``few million Hong Kong dollars,`` and is cutting back expenses at its Internet operations.

Staff Cuts

Pearl has fired about 73 percent of staff at its Internet operations; staff strength is down to fewer than 50 from as many as 185.

Sales of Pearl`s property assets made the largest contribution to revenue, bringing in HK$215.3 million of a total HK$328.1 million. That revenue is being used to pay debt, which was HK$1.4 million at the end of March.

In the first quarter this year, the sale of two properties yielded HK$338 million. More sales are planned. Pearl intends to sell the majority of three other properties by year-end. With the proceeds, Pearl said it will be able to repay all its bank debts.

Pearl will then be able to carry out new investments -- nothing Internet-related, though. It will ``resume its focus (on) property business.``

Hatte ebend versucht eine bestehende Kauforder von Pearl zu löschen, ging nicht hab daraufhin bei Comdirect angerufen, dort wurde mir gesagt diese Order wurde automatisch von der Börse gelöscht da der Handel ausgesetzt ist. Weiß einer warum der Handel ausgesetzt wurde und ob bei wiederzulassung mit positiven Kursveränderungen zu rechnen ist.

vermutlich muss Pearl der Boersenaufsicht in Honkong
erstmal erklaeren, warum der Kurs 2* um ~ 44% hochgeht,
ohne dass es entsprechende NEWS gab,...
Vermutlich sowas wie ein Sicherheitsmodell..
(darum wohl auch kein Handel am Neuen Markt).

PS: eine Handelsaussetzung bei steigenden Kursen ist allemal besser als eine Aussetzzung bei fallenden Kursen

Pearl Ori Cyber (0988-HK) shares drop 13 pct to $0.02

Share price of Pearl Oriental Cyberforce Ltd has dropped 13 pct to $0.02.

The company has confirmed that it is now in talks with several investors on the disposal of or co-operation in property projects. It, however, said that no agreements have been reached as yet.
