YLine: Company report 1st Quarter 2000
Press Release
Revenues EUR 6.9 million, loss before interest and income taxes EUR -4.5m, net
loss EUR -3.7m 80% growth in revenues from Q4/99 to Q1/00
Loss before interest and income taxes 36% above forecast
Result as per 31 March 2000:
The results for the first quarter 2000 have been determined for
the first time in accordance with Staff Accounting Bulletin (SAB) 101
issued by the SEC in December 1999 and comparison with previous quarters is
therefore subject to qualification. These guidelines make for significant
limitations regarding revenue recognition of set up fees in connection with
the activity of the company as Application Service Provider (ASP).
Set up fees of a company from ASP activities under this new accounting
procedure are recognised as revenue only over the term of the arrangement
On the basis of this accounting procedure YLine achieved in the first quarter
of 2000 revenues of 6.889 m euro, loss before interest and income taxes of
- 4,527 euro and a net loss of 3,385m euro. A further 1.447m euro
Business-to-Business proceeds from Platform Providing and E-Commerce
Application Service Providing have been deferred on the basis of the new
SEC accounting requirements and will be realized over the term of the
contract. At the same time, however, the costs already committed against
the initial proceeds apportioned over the term of the contract
takes full effect in the 1st quarter. Despite application of the new
SEC accounting requirements all revenue targets could be achieved.
At the same time the loss has turned out about 36% less than forecast.
Quarterly comparison:
Q-1/2000 Q-4/99 Q-1-3/99
Revenues 6,889 4,637 3,238
Gross profit 2,261 -86 450
Loss before interest
and income taxes -4,527 -5,510 -2,267
Net loss -3,685 -4,598 -1,491
Concentration on the Business-to-business market:
YLine is consistently pursuing its strategic objective of becoming
European market leader in the Business-to-Business market and will be
concentrating on the growing Business-to-Business segment of Platform
Providing and Application Service Providing in future.
In order to achieve this target YLine in March this year acquired a majority
interest in Primus Service GmbH, a German Platform- and Application Service
Provider. Measured in revenues and number of platforms serviced
Primus Service GmbH as e-commerce Application Service Provider is market leader
in Germany. This stake allowed YLine a rapid entry into the
German Business-to-Business market and represents a strong starting base for
the planned expansion in Europe.
In focusing on Business-to-Business the two Business-to-Consumer fields
""E-commerce Portal"" and ""Internet Service Providing"" have been formed into
companies of their own that now go under the names of Primus-Online
E-Commerce Services AG and YLine Web Access Services AG.
These companies are to be run in future by bringing in strategic partners.
The strategic partner for the e-commerce portal company was found in March
this year in Primus Online, a member of the Metro Group.
Primus Online has a 51% majority holding and has taken over management
at the YLine e-commerce portal www.yline.at.
The management of YLine is confident to announce the strategic partner for
the Web Access Services AG by the end of June 2000.
Intensive negotiations are currently taking place with several partners.
Continued strong growth and improved results expected
The new structure and focusing on the Business-to-Business segments
Platform Providing and Applications Service Providing will lead to
stronger growth and to better results. Based on already existing
contracts the management expects a disproportionately large growth for
the next quarters. The management of YLine is aiming for a profit
before interest and income taxes by the 3rd quarter of 2000.
YLine increased orders booked for new platforms and Application Service
Provider services in the 1st quarter of 2000 from 3.4m euro in the
4th quarter of 1999 to 30m euro. This rise in orders of more than
1200% is a clear indicator of the market performance of YLine
in the Business-to-Business market. Overall YLine is currently
operating more than 16 international Internet platforms it has
set up. Another four Business-to-Business platforms are currently being
developed and there are letters of intent for 3 more platforms.
Building a network of European partners:
An important element of the European Business-to-Business strategy is building
up an European network of partners. At the beginning of 2000 YLine and IBM
entered into a long-term technology and development partnership.
In the future Business-to-Business platforms will be developed by YLine on
the basis of the IBM ""Websphere"" software platform. The partnership with
IBM is also emphasized by the appointment of the former IBM manager Peter
Hrdlicka to the 3rd Member of the Board and COO.
A strategic partner has been found in Primus-Online, a member of the
Metro Group, with which it will be possible to successfully
push ahead with growth in the European markets.
Outlook:
The first quarter of 2000 has certainly been the most important quarter
of the company, as important steps had been set for the future and significant
milestones had been reached. Together with international investment banks it is
currently being investigated whether the capital required for international
expansion is to be raised by a capital increase or by selling the Internet
Service Provider. A decision will be made by mid-May 2000 depending
on the situation on the international capital markets, the Internet sector
and the price of the YLine shares.
