Nasdaq = GNSLNEW YORK, June 7 (Reuters) - UBS Warburg said on Wednesday it had initiated coverage of gene and protein research company Genomic Solutions Inc. <GNSL.O> with a strong buy recommendation and a 12-month target price of $20. -- Genomic, which provides pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with research instruments and software to aid in drug discovery, is well-positioned to benefit from its highly specialized systems, UBS said. -- "In 2000, we expect the company to post revenues of $19 million, up 64 percent compared to 1999," it said. -- "DNA systems sales should increase 59 percent to $11 million; proteomic systems sales should double to just over $6 million; the remaining $1 million should be derived from field service," it said. -- Early in May, Genomic made its debut on the New York Stock Exchange at a price of $8 per share. The shares closed Tuesday at 11-1/4.
