      Games

As the world prepares for the biggest media event
in history - the opening ceremony of the 2000
Olympic Games in Sydney - global satellite
provider INTELSAT is preparing the satellite
system to carry the estimated 40,000 hours of
television programming that will be beamed out of
Australia during the two weeks of the Games.

The company will contribute seven of the eleven satellites that will be used in
the system that will ensure that 4 billion people are able to watch the Olympic
      flame being lit.

Given the size of the global television audience - up around 60% on the last
Games, and spread across more countries of the world - the 2000 Olympics
will present communications challenges never seen before, which will in large
part be solved by satellite technologies. INTELSAT will be providing satellite
services for major Olympic broadcasters such as NBC, BBC and ARD. Asian
broadcasters using Intelsat`s services during the Olympics include CCTV in
China; TVB in Hong Kong; TVNZ in New Zealand; RTM in Malaysia; KBS,
SBS and MCB in South Korea.

More importantly, this will be the first Olympics where the Internet provides a
mass global news platform. Since the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia,
has a significant dependence on satellite for its connection to the global
Internet backbone, this will place great demands on the new Internet services
developed by the satellite companies over the last few years.

Conny Kullman, CEO of INTELSAT, commented, "The
2000 Olympic Games will be the most exciting display
yet of what our satellite network can do. Most of the
people in the world who watch the Olympics on
television, for instance, will do so thanks to our
spacecraft. But thanks to the Internet, demand is
currently exploding, and we are making major investments to remain
competitive. We are building nine new spacecraft at a cost of over $2 billion,
and are developing an enhanced broadband system to better meet future
      requirements for Internet connectivity."

During the Olympics, INTELSAT will be a major global partner to Australia`s
Telstra, official telecommunications provider to the Games.
