BCY LifeSciences enters into agreement with Biovail

TORONTO, Oct. 7 /CNW/ - BCY LifeSciences Inc. (TSVX: BCY) announced today that the Company has entered into a Products Rights Agreement (the "Agreement") with Biovail Corporation (TSX, NYSE: BVF - News News).
Under the Agreement, Biovail retains the option to evaluate and negotiate future licenses for products in BCY`s portfolio including the Company`s lead product currently being studied for use in Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The compound is also under clinical consideration for use in other respiratory conditions, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The arrangements provide the Company with a potential licensing partner for DCF 987.

On September 9, 2002 BCY announced that the Company had completed an arrangement with Western Life Sciences Venture Fund L.P. (WLSVF) for the Fund to invest in the BCY. The investment by the Fund into BCY should be sufficient for BCY to complete a Phase II trial in CF. The Phase II trial is scheduled to begin during the current quarter. As a lead investor in the WLSVF, to which it has committed C$10 million, Biovail retains the right to enter into Product Rights Agreements with participants in the Fund.
