Elcoteq`s President resigns


Elcoteq`s president, Mr Tuomo Lähdesmäki, has resigned from the company. Mr Hannu Bergholm MSc (Econ.) (51) has been appointed interim president of the company as of today.

Mr Bergholm`s previous experience includes positions as Corporate Controller of Kone and Nokia. He joins Elcoteq as its president from his own consulting company Berhan Oy.

Elcoteq`s Board of Directors has immediately begun the search for a new president. In a decision issued by the Board of Director`s, the Board`s Working Committee, which comprises the Board`s chairman Antti Piippo and Group Vice Presidents Henry Sjöman and Jorma Vanhanen, takes immediately responsibility for actively supporting the interim president in his work.

"By taking a more active role in operational matters, the Working Committee wishes to ensure that the adjustment and streamlining measures currently being implemented throughout the company proceed as planned," stated Mr Antti Piippo, Chairman of the Board. "We have agreed with Tuomo Lähdesmäki that neither party will comment on his resignation."

Elcoteq`s Chairman of the Board Mr Antti Piippo has decided to
refrain from the Board work for the time being. This is, he says, due
to events in his personal life being connected with Elcoteq in a way,
which may be negative for the Company.

"During the past few days there has been publicity in Finland
concerning an incident which took place early this month. In that
incident guests who behaved inappropriately were removed from my
summer house. This unfortunate incident is entirely part of my
private life. However, since my private life and chairmanship of
Elcoteq`s Board seem inseparable to outsiders, I feel that under
these circumstances it is my duty to refrain from the Board work.
This is how I can best guarantee Elcoteq, its personnel and its
management full concentration on actual business," Mr Antti Piippo
says.

"As regards the incident I am fully convinced that I did right.
However, since police investigations on the chain of events that
night have been requested, I have no other choice but to wait for the
results of these investigations to prove what really happened at my
summer house. Until then I will not participate in the Board`s work,"
Mr Piippo says.

During Mr Piippo`s absence Vice Chairman of the Board Mr Juha Toivola
will substitute Mr Piippo.
