Trotzdem danke.
Bei SmarTire ist einiges am Laufen!
SmarTire sales likely to inflate on safety concerns
NEW YORK, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Tire monitor maker SmarTire Systems Inc. (NasdaqSC:SMTR - news) on Wednesday said it bought its way out of a product licensing agreement with TRW Inc. (NYSE:TRW - news), opening a channel to suppliers and automakers who need to integrate pressure monitors into their wheels to pass upcoming tire safety regulations.
Richmond, British Columbia-based SmarTire said it would pay TRW $3.3 million in cash and debt to nullify licensing contracts the two companies had forged in April 1998. Under the agreements, SmarTire had not been allowed to compete for sales to automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
TRW, a maker of automotive and aerospace components, may continue to sell monitoring systems that use SmarTire technology and will maintain its 9 percent stake in SmarTire.
Tire pressure monitors have been standard in the auto racing world for years, but they`ve recently scaled the consumer industry`s buzz ladder following the passage of the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act (TREAD), which was signed last November.
The act, spawned from the legal and corporate chaos surrounding accidents and tire recalls involving Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - news) and its former tire supplier Firestone, will require the installation of tire pressure monitors on all new vehicles after November 2003. 14 year-old SmarTire stands to benefit, as one of only a few current manufacturers of the technology.
``SmarTire now has total, unrestricted access to the OEM market,`` both domestically and in Europe, the company`s president and chief executive Robert Rudman said. ``It`s an unparalleled milestone for our company.``
SmarTire`s system mounts a sensor on each wheel that collects information and then transmits a radio signal to an instrument panel within the vehicle.
The company is still compiling financial projections based on the cancellation of the agreements, but Rudman said significant growth potential lay ahead. More than 15 million vehicles are produced in North America each year, and versions of SmarTire`s systems will sell for $50 to $100 per vehicle.
``It`s a huge market,`` Rudman said. ``It`s overwhelming when you start playing with the numbers.``
Only a handful of firms have emerged over the past decade to feed the tire monitor market, which had been tepid until the recall of millions of tires made by Firestone, the U.S. unit of Japan`s Bridgestone Corp. , dragged the issue of tire safety into public view.
Among the firms that have developed pressure monitoring systems are Germany`s BERU Group, which has allied with U.S. parts maker Lear Corp. (NYSE:LEA - news); Schrader Electronics Ltd out of Northern Ireland; and TRW itself. Many other top-tier auto parts suppliers are also exploring the potentially lucrative industry.
Shares of SmarTire, which have ranged from $1.38 to $5.75 during the past 52 weeks, traded 1 cent higher on Wednesday at $2.10.

Bei 0,55 liegt was drin.

SmarTire and Visteon Reach Agreement in Principle for Tire Pressure Monitoring Products; Companies Receive Positive Feedback from Vehicle Manufacturers for Direct Measurement Technology
RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--SmarTire Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: SMTR - News), a leading developer of tire pressure and temperature monitoring technology, and Visteon Corporation (NYSE:VC - News), a leading global Tier 1 supplier of consumer-driven technologies to automotive manufacturers, announced today the two companies have reached an Agreement in Principle to develop and market tire monitoring solutions for vehicle manufacturers.
With this agreement, the two companies plan to offer tire monitoring solutions to global automotive manufacturers for original equipment passenger car applications. Feedback to SmarTire and Visteon from automakers indicates the need to offer a range of solutions integrating direct measurement technology with existing automotive modules and electronic systems.
"For SmarTire, the agreement with Visteon represents a decisive critical step toward the integration of our technology into original equipment passenger car platforms," reports Robert Rudman, SmarTire`s President and Chief Executive Officer. "Responding to the demand for direct measurement tire monitoring technology, the two companies are working to solidify non-exclusive product development and distribution agreements," adds Rudman. "Visteon is known for their systems integration ability and technical innovation with several global automakers."
Since 1987, SmarTire has pioneered the research and development of tire monitoring technology and has advocated that tire monitoring will become the next major breakthrough in vehicle safety following airbags and anti-lock brakes. With the new Transportation Recall Enhancement Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act, improved tire safety standards will require tire pressure warning systems on new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. after 2003.
SmarTire develops and markets technically advanced tire monitoring systems for the automotive and transportation industries. Additional information can be found at www.smartire.com.

Smartire ( SMTR ) sollte man nun täglich verfolgen.

Mitarbeiter musten gehen.
