      CYBERGUARD CORPORATION
      ANNOUNCES FOURTH QUARTER,
      YEAR-END RESULTS FOR
      FISCAL YEAR 2001

-- Annual Revenues Grow 29 Percent,
      Quarterly Year-Over-Year Revenues Up 30 Percent --

-- Company Posts Positive Cash Flow
for Q4, Solidifies Strong Cash Position --

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida - August 30, 2001 -- CyberGuard Corporation (OTC: CYBG), the technology leader in network security, today reported revenues of $24.4 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2001, an increase of more than 29 percent over the previous fiscal year. The company posted revenues of $6.374 million for the fourth quarter compared to $4.892 million for the quarter ending June 30, 2000, an increase of 30 percent, and the second highest quarterly revenues in company history.

The company also reported positive cash flow for the fourth quarter of $450,000 and noted that CyberGuard was in its strongest cash position since the conversion of debt into equity and exercise of warrants in January 2001. The company posted a net loss of approximately $160,000 for the quarter after adjusting for interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) and the effect of a one-time charge of $118,000 related to fixed asset impairment. For the fiscal year, the company posted a net loss of approximately $580,000 after adjusting for EBITDA and one-time charges of approximately $1,035,000 related to non-recurring marketing, severance and recruiting expenditures; warrant payments; a change in accounting practices; and the fixed asset impairment. The net loss to common stock shareholders for the quarter was approximately $655,000 or $.04 per share. The net loss to common stock shareholders for the fiscal year was approximately $4.016 million or $.30 per share.

Scott Hammack, chief executive officer of CyberGuard Corporation, stated, "In spite of a definite slowdown in the technology sector overall, we were able to recognize significant year-over-year revenue growth and improve our cash position. That demonstrates the strength of our products, our services and our ability to manage our operations. The need for information security is growing and we believe that by managing efficiently, listening to our customers, providing innovative product extensions, and shifting to a strong channel focus, we will be well-positioned to succeed when the economy begins to turn."

Hammack added that channel distribution has been key to CyberGuard`s success in Europe and Asia and the company has begun focusing heavily on US channel growth through its relationship with reseller market development firm, Marketlink. Now that the Marketlink sales force has completed CyberGuard product training, Hammack said he expects to begin seeing the results of the additional sales activity.

Significant events since the start of the fourth quarter include:

April 1 -- Following extensive evaluation, European testing lab gives FireSTAR (FS) - CyberGuard`s smaller scale appliance - top marks.
