Mail.com Anti-Virus Service Interceptions Increase 580 Percent in Second Quarter
THURSDAY, JULY 06, 2000 11:12 AM
- BusinessWire
NEW YORK, Jul 6, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Leading Anti-Virus Service Provider Profiles
"Top Ten" Viruses For June
Mail.com, Inc., (NASDAQ:MAIL) a leading global provider of Internet Messaging services for businesses, announced
today that its leading anti-virus service, MailWatch, formerly MailZone, intercepted 51,510 viruses in the second
quarter. That figure represents a 580 percent increase over the first quarter`s virus interception activity, and is due
largely to the "I Love You" (AKA "Love Letter") virus in May, the "Stages" virus in June, and an increase in corporate
customers using the MailWatch service.
Mail.com`s MailWatch is a fully outsourced e-mail firewall service, used by more than 1,000 companies nationwide for
their network security. MailWatch acts as a firewall that prevents computer viruses, inappropriate attachments,
unsolicited bulk e-mail or spam and offensive or threatening content from reaching the network where they can
negatively impact both network and employee performance.
The top ten viruses stopped by MailWatch in June are:
Virus Name Interceptions
VBS/Stages-A 13,516
VBS/LoveLet-G 5,795
WM97/Marker-C 612
W32/Ska-Happy99 394

"Both the number of new viruses and the speed with which they enter company networks continue to increase," said
Aaron Fessler, senior vice-president of Mail.com`s Business Messaging Services. "Because few administrators have
the time or resources to constantly check for new viruses and download updates, companies are at a higher risk.
MailWatch`s 24/7 Management Center eliminates that problem for our customers by responding to new threats, often
within minutes of release, preventing viruses from entering a corporations mission-critical e-mail network."
The top two viruses, commonly known as "Stages.Worm" and "Love Letter" spread quickly through networks by
e-mailing copies of themselves to people listed in a user`s Microsoft Outlook address book. The Stages virus does not
harm any files on a user`s computer but can shut down corporate e-mail networks. The "Love Bug" virus overwrites
certain files, such as those ending in .mp3 or .jpg with copies of itself. In May, MailWatch intercepted the "Love
Letter" virus and its variants over 20,000 times. For more information about MailWatch, click on www.MailWatch.com.

Mail.com Partners With BulletIN.net to Deliver Wireless E-mail Access to United Kingdom
Customers
WEDNESDAY, JULY 12, 2000 7:47 AM
- BusinessWire
NEW YORK, Jul 12, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Partnership Allows Mail.com Users in the UK to Send and
Receive Filtered E-mail Messages Using Mobile Handsets
Mail.com, Inc., (NASDAQ:MAIL) a leading global provider of Internet messaging services for businesses and
consumers, today announced it has partnered with BulletIN.net, a leading provider of two-way wireless Internet
messaging products and services for wireless carriers. The partnership will allow Mail.com users in the United
Kingdom to send and receive filtered e-mail messages using wireless handsets. Bulletinmail customers will also
benefit from having a fully functional Web-based e-mailbox powered by Mail.com. Under the terms of the agreement,
Mail.com will generate revenue through per message usage fees.
"We believe that the traditionally separate worlds of wireless and Internet are rapidly merging," noted Sam Kline,
Mail.com Chief Operating Officer. "Because Mail.com understands the wireless landscape and the variety of protocols
in place worldwide, we are developing a technology-independent solution, in partnership with BulletIN.net. Our
combined solution is compatible with a wide variety of protocols including WAP (wireless application protocol) and
SMS (short message service). iMODE, which is widely used in Japan will be available shortly. Mail.com is committed
to extending the reach of our customers desktop e-mail to any wireless device."
Mail.com`s new wireless service will enable UK users to decide how they would like to receive their e-mail messages
on their wireless device. Users will be able to choose their own e-mail filtering options such as by sender, urgency and
time of day. Through BulletIN.net`s relationship with Vodafone (NYSE:VOD), the UK`s most popular mobile phone
network, Mail.com GSM Vodafone mobile subscribers will have access to additional features like single button reply,
the ability to access full e-mail messages and the option to forward an e-mail to fax.
"Mail.com`s enhanced wireless product offering combines BulletIN.net`s cutting-edge wireless technology with
Mail.com`s ubiquitous WebMail to provide our UK users with the most reliable e-mail service anytime, anywhere from
their wireless device or from their PC. This initiative is consistent with Mail.com`s continuing mission to provide a
wireless solution as part of its one-stop messaging services to all of its users," added Kline.
Mail.com and BulletIN.net are poised to take advantage of the growing wireless market because of the widespread use
of SMS technology in the UK and throughout Europe. The UK represents one of the highest mobile phone market
penetrations in the world, approaching 50%. The number of e-mails sent and received in the UK has doubled in the
last year. The UK also continues to represent one of the largest sources of new customers for Mail.com.
