Transmeta (TMTA: news, chart, profile) could attract buying interest Monday after an article published in Barron`s over the weekend extolled the potential virtues of its power-efficient microprocessors. The stock was mentioned by Bill Baker of GARP Research, who believes Transmeta is "turning the corner." He notes that the company`s TM5800 chip impressed attendees of the The Microprocessor Forum in October in head-to-head competition with Intel`s (INTC: news, chart, profile) ultra-low-power Pentium. Transmeta shares closed Friday at $3.47, up 30.9 percent.

AMD`s new mobile processor features QuantiSpeed(TM) architecture, AMD PowerNow!(TM) technology
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2002-- AMD (NYSE:AMD - news) today introduced the mobile AMD Athlon(TM) 4 processor 1500+, the highest overall performing processor for notebook PCs. The new mobile processor, featuring QuantiSpeed(TM) architecture and AMD PowerNow!(TM) technology, delivers the highest notebook PC application performance to meet the demanding needs of today`s business professionals. Systems based on the mobile AMD Athlon 4 processor 1500+ are expected to be immediately available from Compaq Computer Corporation.

Joining the AMD Athlon XP and AMD Athlon MP processors, the new mobile processor will be identified with model numbers, as opposed to clock speed in megahertz. In October 2001, AMD announced the True Performance Initiative (TPI), through which AMD will assist customers in understanding the benefits of PC performance. The TPI also will help define a more accurate measure of processor performance for standard applications.
