      Beitrag Nr. 1 ()
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Phoenix Technologies Ltd. , the company driving the global core system software standard in PCs and connected digital devices for 25 years, announced that 4MBO, a German system builder focused on innovative products in the PC, telecommunications, consumer electronics and other market segments, has adopted Phoenix FirstWare(TM) applications for their "white box" and branded PCs and systems.

4MBO will ship Phoenix FirstWare Recover, Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro, Phoenix FirstWare Vault and Phoenix FirstWare Check, accessed and managed through Phoenix cME Console. The company chose the Phoenix products as a way to deliver high-value, built-in functions while controlling customer support expenses, and to offer improved differentiation and reliability, especially for its Volks PC.

"Phoenix FirstWare technology will allow us to provide our customers innovative devices that are less costly to maintain, more intuitive to use, and more reliable," said Christof Klein, Chief Operating Officer of 4MBO. "When they have a problem with their PCs, users often return them to the factory. Too frequently, the problem turns out to be a software issue that could have been repaired easily. With Phoenix FirstWare applications, users can do some key diagnosis and restoration without calling technical support and without a restore CD. That helps us save money, and it builds confidence in our products."

4MBO will use the Phoenix Core Managed Environment (cMETM) platform to extend the capabilities of their PCs and information appliances. Phoenix cME is an open software platform, centered on BIOS, that enables the management and integration of functionality into the heart of digital devices. Once fully integrated into that platform, the Phoenix FirstWare applications will provide 4MBO customers system diagnosis and recovery solutions, including access to Web-based support, through "instant-on" applications that help diagnose and recover systems in the event the operating system crashes or otherwise won``t boot. By building Phoenix FirstWare applications into the core system layer, 4MBO can ensure their customers the highest level of protection and access.

"4MBO has a respected reputation in the European market for developing innovative products," said Timothy D. Eades, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Corporate Marketing and Product Division for Phoenix. "Their selection of Phoenix FirstWare applications for their PCs and other devices is a strong statement of quality assurance for their customers. It also validates the industry need for a core managed environment that includes a protected and secure area of a device``s hard drive. Ultimately, this environment makes devices easier to use and simpler to maintain, increasing market acceptance."

Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro is an always-available and tamperproof back-up and recovery tool built into the core of the PC. It stores user data, applications, and the operating system (OS) in the secured host protected area (HPA) of the hard drive. Users can easily recover systems to their original factory conditions or to a more recent state without factory-supplied restore CDs or technical support. This significantly reduces warranty and other support costs while maximizing user productivity and satisfaction.

Phoenix FirstWare Recover provides similar value, allowing users to restore their PCs to the original factory image, including system software and factory-installed applications.

Phoenix cME Console is a platform from which to launch and manage trusted applications. The Console is a customizable product that resides at the heart of a digital device in a secure area. Phoenix recently launched an ISV program allowing third-party companies to secure their applications in this part of the computer.

Phoenix FirstWare Vault is a unique software-installation tool built into the core of the PC. It provides a virtual CD/DVD drive that safely stores factory-loaded applications or system software on the hard drive. If an application, driver, or parts of the operating system (OS) must be re- installed, users can do it rapidly without manufacturer-supplied CDs or technical support.
