PCCW-IMS launches premium wholesale service for VOIP providers

Hong Kong, 13 May 2005 - PCCW-IMS today announced that it is launching an innovative, premium wholesale service for operators desiring to offer higher quality local Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to users over the PCCW-IMS broadband network.

Operators who subscribe to the new service, IMS Wholesale Network Usage Service, will obtain a transmission service with dedicated routing. In turn, this may provide added quality assurance to the customers of those VoIP providers that serve Netvigator Broadband customers.

PCCW-IMS has already commenced commercial negotiations with operators who may be interested in purchasing the wholesale service to provide high quality local VoIP service.

PCCW-IMS has noted the market demand for this new service. A number of concerns have been raised about the quality of some local VoIP services, including that such services lack quality guarantees. This non-compulsory wholesale offering responds to these concerns.

PCCW-IMS noted that such services are now necessary as the industry is gearing itself toward managed communications services. Increasingly, new technologies and applications that require guaranteed services are emerging, and the Internet now faces the challenge to manage this traffic growth, especially during busy hours.

Anyone subscribing to a VoIP service is advised to consult their service provider whether they have a Wholesale Network Usage Agreement with PCCW-IMS, or similar arrangements with other broadband network service providers. VoIP providers that opt to not subscribe to this service will not over time be able to ensure that time-sensitive voice packets are given priority over other data. That could result in poor call quality.

For the convenience of customers, the names of VoIP providers with which PCCW-IMS has agreements will be listed on the company’s website, www.netvigator.com as new agreements are finalized.

Hong Kong`s Cascade wins Brunei contract
to lay foundation for e-government

Hong Kong, 2 May 2005 - Cascade Limited (Cascade), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PCCW Limited, together with Universal Electronic Enterprises (UEE) and BCQRE, has won a contract valued at more than HK$48 million from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) of the Negara Brunei Darussalam Government to create a network infrastructure interconnecting all Government agencies.

Cascade was contracted to design, build and operate the infrastructure because of its ability to create and operate a high quality secured network. Cascade is one of the largest technical services groups in the Asia Pacific. UEE is one of Brunei`s leading IT companies and BCQRE is a major e-security solution provider in Korea.

"The key to winning this contract to deploy one of the largest network infrastructures in Brunei was our proven track record and our expertise in network management," said Mr Chan Wing Wa, Managing Director of Cascade.

"We applied a stringent set of requirements, as well as guaranteed service level commitments and network reliability to ensure a successful solution. In doing so we have achieved a further step in our continuing expansion of operations in the region."

The project is expected to fully integrate into the Brunei Government`s core network infrastructure by the third quarter of 2005, providing a powerful foundation for expediting the country`s extensive e-government strategy.

Under the contract, the parties will construct an Information Communications Technology (ICT) network infrastructure that will interconnect all the Government agencies with centralized management of common facilities This will be designed to enable seamless integration and collaboration across agency programs for the efficient and effective delivery of services to the nation.

The end-to-end managed network will apply the latest IP technologies to provide a flexible, scalable, cost-effective, reliable and secure platform for future applications.

Upon completion, the infrastructure housed within the Network Operation Center will provide service to 900 users, including 30 Wireless Access Points and two high-speed access links to the Internet. The Center and its network will be the largest mission-critical and secure IP-enabled in Brunei.

In addition to carrying this project, Cascade, as an appointed Associate Consultancy to the British Standards Institution, will also be assisting the MOF in formulating a roadmap towards BS 7799 Information Security Management Standards certification.

PCCW übernimmt Sunday Communications

Die PCCW Ltd. (ISIN HK0008011667/ WKN 165235), die größte Festnetz-Telefongesellschaft in Hongkong, meldete am Montag, dass sie den Mobilfunkbetreiber Sunday Communications Ltd. für rund 200 Mio. US-Dollar übernehmen wird.

Wie PCCW-Chairman Richard Li auf der Basin Economic Conference in Hongkong mitteilte, wird der Konzern, der in 2002 aus dem Mobilfunkgeschäft ausgestiegen war, den Übernahmepreis in bar bezahlen.

Nach Angaben der Zeitung "Wen Wei Po" könnte die Akquisition der China Network Communications Group Corp., die mit 20 Prozent an PCCW beteiligt ist, bei der Entwicklung ihres 3G-Netzwerks helfen.

Die Aktie von PCCW schloss an der HKSE zuletzt bei 4,80 Hongkong-Dollar.

Ich meine natürlich die WKN 165235 !!!!

Nun zur Aufklärung warum ich glaube das die Aktie
steigen wird. Ich selbst bin seit 5 Jahren in dieser
Aktie investiert und konnte in den letzten Wochen
noch günstig nachkaufen.


Ich denke das der Boden bei 50 Cent gemacht sein
müsste. Seit ein paar Wochen geht die Aktie stetig
nach oben. PCCW hat seit dem Jahr 2004 Dividende
ausgeschüttet. Ich denke wenn die jetzt für die
Übernahme 200 Millionen in BAR auf den Tisch legen,
haben die eine pralle Kriegskasse. Hierzulande ist
das Unternehmen noch nicht so bekannt, aber das dürfte
sich in Kürze ändern.

Ich persönlich glaube, dass der Kurs mittelfristig bei
1,50 - 2,00 Euro liegen wird .

PCCW to help SUNDAY (0866) repay $799M loans to Huawei

(Infocast News) SUNDAY Communications (0866) announced that PCCW (0008) has on July 8 confirmed to Mandarin Communications Ltd (wholly owned by SUNDAY) its in-principle agreement to provide the necessary financial resources to Mandarin in order to enable Mandarin to repay all loans and performance bonds outstanding under a facility agreement on July 29 in accordance with the relevant terms of the facility agreement and to cancel any available facilities under the facility agreement on July 29 in accordance with the terms thereof. Mandarin has on July 8 given a written notice of its intention to prepay the entire principal amount outstanding (together with accrued interest thereon) under the facility agreement.

As at May 31, the SUNDAY group had total outstanding borrowings of $799.244 million, represented by $374.244 million of equipment supply facility and $425 million of general facility, and a performance bond of $210.746 million provided to the office of the Telecommunications Authority through drawdown of the 3G performance bond facility.

Under the terms of the facility agreement with Huawei Tech., the cessation of any two or more of Richard John Siemens, William Bruce Hicks, Kuldeep Saran and Edward Wai-sun Cheng as directors involved in the management of SUNDAY may constitute an event of default unless a waiver to such term is granted by Huawei Tech.. Failure to comply with this covenant may entitle Huawei Tech. to accelerate the maturity of the outstanding amounts under the facility agreement and to exercise their security rights over substantially all of the SUNDAY group`s assets.

PCCW has offered to buy a 59.87% stake in SUNDAY from the largest shareholder of SUNDAY and will make a general offer for SUNDAY`s shares at $0.65 per share. It is said that PCCW intends to privatise SUNDAY after the acquisition, so that its bundled promotions in future will not become connected transactions. A privatisation must be approved by 90% or more of SUNDAY`s independent shareholders. Huawei Tech., a substantial shareholder and loan provider of SUNDAY, has last month increased its shareholding in SUNDAY to 9.91% through tradings in the market. Huawei Tech.`s opinion will be very important for PCCW`s proposed privatisation of SUNDAY. PCCW`s plan to fully repay the outstanding loan due from SUNDAY to Huawei Tech. is believed to be an action aiming at facilitating the proposed privatisation.

SUNDAY closed last Friday at $0.64, below PCCW`s offer price.

PCCW (0008) to provide ERP svc to China Netcom Group

(Infocast News) PCCW (0008) announced that it has entered into nine ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) agreements with the China Netcom Group. The provision of system integration and consultancy services by PCCW in nine northern provinces (which are Tianjin Municipality, Hebei Province, Henan Province, Shandong Province, Liaoning Province, Shanxi Province, Jilin Province, Heilongjiang Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region) for establishing ERP system to the China Netcom Group will commence on July 14 or on such later date as agreed by the parties. The aggregate value of the transaction is approximately RMB96.07 million ($91.495 million).

PCCW is 20% owned by the parent company of China Netcom (0906).

PCCW wins round in broadband fight

PCCW, Hong Kong`s dominant provider of fixed-line telecom services, has won a ruling in the top court making it possible for directives by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority to be forcibly put on hold pending appeal.

The Court of Final Appeal ruling comes in a case dating back to 2002, which followed disputes over interconnection charges between PCCW and other operators in the 1990s.

In May 2002, OFTA issued a directive against PCCW designed to open the broadband market to other operators. The directive ordered the company to to provide more services to potential broadband operators which did not have their own networks.

PCCW appealed OFTA`s move to the telecom industry`s appeal board, asking the board to suspend the regulatory directive while the appeal was pending.

But the chairman of the tribunal, senior counsel John Griffiths, replied that although he would have favored an interim suspension, the appeal board had no discretionary power to order one.

Wednesday`s Court of Final Appeal ruling, by Chief Justice Andrew Li and justices Syed Bokhary, Patrick Chan, Roberto Ribeiro and Anthony Mason, clarified that the appeal board does have the discretion to suspend OFTA directives pending appeal.

Justice Bokhary said: ``It would be cumbersome and less efficient for suspension pending appeal to be decided by a body other than the one which will hear the appeal.``

OFTA was ordered to pay PCCW the costs of its appeal.

Following the judgment, a PCCW spokesman said: ``We believe that the industry generally will welcome the court ruling, as it has clarified both the jurisdiction of the appeal board and the extent of OFTA`s power.``

An OFTA spokeswoman said the regulator would study the ruling in detail and consult with the Secretary for Justice before deciding on its next move.

Laut dem Deputy Chairman von PCCW 0008-HK Jack So und dem CFO Alexander Arena hat das Unternehmen mit seinem NOW Breitband-TV in den letzten zwei Jahren die Zahl der Kanäle von 23 auf 70 erhöht und zählt jetzt 400.000 angemeldete Kunden. Wie weiter berichtet wird, ist das Pay TV auf einem guten Weg und kann inzwischen mit dem Free TV konkurrieren. Zukünftig sollen interaktive Funktionen und ein Shopping-Bereich des Breitband-TV auf- und ausgebaut werden. Im nächsten Jahr will PCCW den ersten Hi-Definition TV (HDTV) Services anbieten.

Weiterhin ist vorgesehen einen Finanzkanal aufzubauen über welchen die Informationen über Finanzen, Börse und Immobilienmarkt veröffentlicht werden. Finanzielle Details gab So nicht bekannt, sagte aber, dass der Launch des neuen Kanals keinen Einfluss auf das angestrebte Break Even des NOW Breitband TVs habe. Zum Betrieb dieses neuen Kanals habe man einen ehemaligen Managementmitarbeiter der South China Group gewinnen können. Das NOW Broadband TV und HBO Asia Pacific haben mit Wirkung vom 01. Juli einen Vertrag zur Zusammenarbeit bis zum Jahr 2014 unterzeichnet.

PCCW wird in den nächsten 3 Wochen Zahlen veröfftenlichen. Die Aktie ging heute mit einem Minus von 1 % auf 5,10 HK-$ aus dem Handel.

auch ich hatte diese "Leiche" total aus den Augen verloren!
Da ich auch schon seit Jahren investiert bin, haben wir vermutlich so ziemlich zu annähernd gleichen Kursen gekauft.
Dass ich nur noch ein Fünftel der gekauften Anteile im Depot habe, naja das hast Du wohl auch mitgemacht?!
Aber jetzt kommt mir ein ganz neuer Gedanke: Auch bei dem anderen Wert, in dem wir beide investiert sind, besitze ich nur noch ein Viertel der gekauftenAnteile. Aber, wenn sich der Kurs bei PCCW nur annähernd so entwickelt wie bei, na Du weisst schon, kann es auch hier ein Happy End geben.

Aber habe noch nicht den Mut gefunden schaue jeden Tag auf der WL wie sie läuft. denke mal, eile ist da noch nicht angesagt. Die Umsätze sind da, aber große Höhen sehe ich noch nicht.
