Global Crossing to Cut 1,200 Jobs
11/14/2001 1:12:00 PM
NEW YORK, Nov 14, 2001 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- High-speed communications provider Global Crossing Ltd. is cutting another 1,200 jobs as its third-quarter loss widened to $3.3 billion including a huge investment writedown.
Together with 2,000 job cuts announced in August, the planned reductions account for more than a quarter of the company`s work force and will leave Global Crossing with about 8,000 employees.
The Bermuda-based company, which operates a fiber network that links 200 of the world`s cities, said late Tuesday it lost $3.84 per share in the quarter ended Sept. 30. In the year-ago quarter, Global Crossing said it lost $544 million, or 69 cents a share.
Included in the latest loss is a $2.08 billion charge from the writedown of the value of investments in companies including Exodus Communications.
Excluding one-time charges, the company lost 62 cents a share, beating expectations of Wall Street analysts surveyed by Thomson/First Call, who expected a loss of 86 cents per share.
The company said its results were in line with a warning issued in October stating that a sharp drop in long-term leases on its network would reduce earnings.
Revenue edged up to $792.9 million in the quarter from $778.1 million a year ago.
Global Crossing CEO John Legere said the company would cut $550 million from its operational expenses by the end of 2002, as it completes the expansion of its network early next year.
After losing more than 90 percent of its value over the past year, the company`s stock was up 3 cents a share to $1.10 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Global Crossing bags US$700m deal with CSC
By Total Telecom staff
08 November 2001
Global Crossing has bagged a US$700 million deal with Computer
Sciences Corp. (CSC) to provide the consulting and IT services giant
with global networking and IP services.
The $700 million is a minimum figure, according to the Hamilton,
Bermuda-based carrier, as incremental revenues could make the 12-year
deal worth $1.5 billion.
Global Crossing is "to develop and manage global wide area data and
voice network infrastructure" for CSC, and then jointly sell
"integrated, end-to-end solutions to multinational enterprises,"
according to an official release. The carrier would provide WAN, IP
VPN and converged voice and data services, whilst CSC would provide
LAN management services.
"The strategic relationship between CSC and Global Crossing clearly
demonstrates CSC`s confidence in Global Crossing`s ability to manage
the CSC network as well as provide global networking services to their
large multinational customers," commented Eileen Eastman, vice
president, communication services, at Boston, Massachusetts-based the
Yankee Group.
This deals also makes the carrier one of the preferred suppliers of
network and IP services to CSC`s thousands of corporate customers.
"We are pleased to have been selected by CSC to take on a
mission-critical project of this scale," said John Legere, chief
executive officer, Global Crossing and Asia Global Crossing.
"As one of the leading consulting and IT services firms, CSC`s
standards are the highest in the world, and we value their confidence
in our capabilities to deliver converged solutions. We share a common
vision with CSC to fundamentally change the way large global
enterprises conduct business by utilising advanced IP communications
technologies. We`ve built and we manage the first truly global fiber
optic network designed to deliver IP services, and that
accomplishment, combined with our network services expertise, makes
Global Crossing uniquely positioned to serve global companies like
CSC."
"This agreement helps expand CSC`s global reach and provides our
company and our customers with the most extensive managed IP services
in the world," said Van B Honeycutt, CSC`s chairman and CEO. "This
helps us fulfil our own as well as our customers` needs for
end-to-end, fully managed solutions. In turn, we enable new
applications for our customers to ensure that they get their own
products and services to market more quickly," he added.

Global Crossing betreibt weltumspannendes Netz
Klassenprimus in Gefahr

Global Crossing Announces First Global Wavelength Communications Service
-- Connects Asia, North America, Europe with choice of communications protocols
MADISON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2001-- -- High-end, point-to-point data transport at up to 10 Gbps
-- Available in more than 90 cities worldwide
Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE: GX - news) today announced the launch of the first worldwide optical wavelength communications service, connecting more than 90 cities in Asia, North America and Europe.
Optical wavelength service is a high-capacity communications technology that enables carriers and enterprises to use the transmission protocol (IP, SONET/SDH or ATM) that works best for their application. Global Crossing`s global wavelength service is available at both 2.5 and 10 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) speeds and offers an alternative to purchasing dark fiber or traditional private line service.
According to a recent Yankee Group report, wavelength services revenue will increase significantly over the next five years, going from an estimated $700 million in the U.S. market alone this year, to nearly $8 billion by 2005.
``Global Crossing is the first carrier to offer a truly global wavelength service,`` said John Legere, chief executive officer of Global Crossing. ``Our customers can offer network services from Tokyo to New York to London using Global Crossing and its subsidiary, Asia Global Crossing. No other carrier can offer that kind of end-to-end, worldwide service. That`s a distinct advantage for businesses trying to maximize their presence in the global marketplace.``
``Wavelengths provide a flexible solution for customers who want to manage their data networks, whether they use IP, SONET/SDH or ATM protocol,`` said Tony Palma, vice president broadband product management. ``Waves are ideal for carriers and ISPs, where full SONET protection may not be required to support certain applications. They`re also a viable option for RBOCs and PTTs, international and domestic carriers, CLECs and multinational enterprise customers.``
Based on dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology, Global Crossing`s global wavelength service is a point-to-point fiber-optic solution that provides unprotected bandwidth tailored specifically for data applications. Wavelengths allow customers to shift the technology burden of infrastructure maintenance and upgrades to Global Crossing, allowing them to concentrate on their core business. With capital expenditures under close scrutiny, wavelengths are a viable alternative to capital-intensive dark fiber builds, providing customers with speedy access to critical markets for a fraction of the cost. Wavelengths also provide a flexible solution for carriers that need to complete a SONET ring or that currently purchase high capacity private lines. Global Crossing currently provides wavelengths to a number of carriers globally, including Deutsche Telekom and China Netcom Corporation.
``Wavelength services are an excellent option for companies looking to quickly and cost-efficiently complete key portions of their networks,`` stated Nick Maynard, analyst, The Yankee Group. ``Global Crossing`s international footprint will allow their large enterprise customers to connect their multinational sites.``

Hast schon recht, ulfer.

Enron Woes May Pressure Pricing for Broadband Services
Dow Jones Newswires
DENVER -- Problems at energy trader Enron Corp., which has a nationwide broadband fiber-optic network, could eventually translate to greater downward pressure on pricing of broadband telecommunications services, according to some experts.
Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown analysts Rohit Chopra and Jeffrey King issued a report Thursday warning that the recent cancellation of Dynegy Inc.`s (DYN) proposed acquisition of Enron (ENE) could result in a low-priced sale of Enron network assets in a sector already burdened "with pricing and massive overcapacity issues."
"In our view, since Enron identified its broadband assets as non-core, they are up for sale," say the analysts. "Any carrier could choose to buy this network at fire sale prices and compete with the emerging carriers. The difference here is that an acquirer would receive a network with no associated debt and thus would have a pricing advantage over the debt-laden emerging carriers."
That view conflicts with Kaufman Bros. L.P. analyst Vik Grover, who also wrote a report on the issue Thursday. He stated that he views the Enron problems as a positive for the broadband market because "a leading trader and network operator with over 16,000 route miles of fiber is basically out of the business. We think that the elimination of this irrational competitor should lead to firmer pricing for capacity."
Mr. Grover stated that network operators positively impacted will be Level 3 Communications Inc. (LVLT), Williams Communications (WCG), Montana Power Co. ( MTP), Global Crossing Ltd. (GX), and to a lesser extent Qwest Communications International Inc. (Q) and BroadWing Inc. (BRW).
Neither Mr. Grover nor Mr. Chopra could be reached for comment.
Other experts take the Deutsche Banc view that the assets will likely be sold and pricing pressure could become worse.
"I think it will be bought. That`s my take on it," said Hui Pan, chief economist with Information Gatekeepers Inc., a Boston market-analysis firm. He foresees another big telecommunications player snapping up the Enron network, perhaps realizing economies of scale by combining it with an existing network.
"I think this will put pressure on existing players," added Mr. Pan.
Neil Dunay, senior analyst at KMI Corp., a Providence, R.I., fiber-optics market research firm, also foresees a sale. "It`s really hard to imagine all that fiber and equipment out there doing nothing," he said.
At the end of 2000, Enron had 15,000 route miles of network, noted Mr. Dunay, and of those, it had built about 5,000 miles itself. About 3,000 miles came from purchases of "dark fiber" that he thinks is now "lit", and the balance was leased capacity. Dark fiber becomes lit when electronics are added so that service can be provided.
There were 322,000 long-distance U.S. fiber-optic route miles in place at the end of 2000, according to Mr. Dunay, so the 5,000 miles that Enron built itself represents only 1.6% of the total.
It`s unclear how much of Enron`s total network is "lit" with the electronics to make it work, and an Enron spokesman could not be reached for comment. But Mr. Pan thinks it is a substantial portion, and the Deutsche Banc report says " the network is apparently lit."
The distinction is important because of the argument that the capacity glut is in dark fiber rather than lit fiber, which can cost several times more than dark fiber.
The Deutsche Banc report estimates that the Enron broadband assets would sell at auction for about $73 million to $218 million. They arrive at those figures by taking 10% to 30% of the company`s $728 million in "net property, plant and equipment," which is what Enron paid for minus depreciation and any writedowns.
Who would the likely buyers be? The Deutsche Banc report doesn`t say, but Mr. Dunay figures it would probably be a "regional player" that doesn`t already have a nationwide network like Enron`s. he said it could be a long-distance carrier or a wholesaler to them.
Mr. Pan figures the Baby Bells would be likely buyers if they felt they could overcome regulatory hurdles and enter the long-distance market in states where they dominate local service. He added established long-distance carriers might also be potential buyers and seem to be more likely buyers than emerging carriers because of their stronger financial position.
The Deutsche Banc report alludes to the possibility of a buy from a long- distance carrier, saying the buyer of the Enron network could "compete with the emerging broadband carriers, and/or possibly eliminating a prospective client [ the long distance carrier]."
Over the last three years there have been many telecom bankruptcies but few asset sales, acknowledge the analysts.
"However, clinging to the hope that no one purchases a nationwide network to then compete debt free against the emerging carriers may simply be wishful thinking, in our opinion," they wrote. The two distinguish the Enron nationwide network from that of Vancouver-based 360networks Inc., which is in bankruptcy and hasn`t yet been able to sell its network. The network of 360networks has varying grades and is "thin, unlit and incomplete," they state, making it less attractive than the Enron network.

•XO Communications (XOXO $1.03) is preparing for potential prepackaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as we had called for several
months ago when we went negative on competitor Winstar Communications. We believe the company is worth watching after the transaction, which should bring in $800 million, wipeout $5 billion in debt, and eliminate common shareholders. The deal includes an $800 million equity infusion from Telmex (TMX $33.80) and Forstmann. We think the news presages a similar move by McLeodUSA (MCLD $0.74), which has a multi-billion dollar debt load and appears to be running thin on capital. Separately, the restructuring and planned fully funded status for XO could be a positive for Level 3 Communications (LVLT $6.13, STRONG BUY), to the extent it shores up visibility for future lit services business from XO.
Enron (ENE $0.61) has fallen now that its deal with Dynegy (DYN $35.89) has failed. Despite obvious negative implications for the energy space, we view Enron’s issues as a positive for the broadband capacity market, in that a leading trader and network operator with over 16,000-route miles of fiber is basically out of the business. We think the elimination of this irrational competitor should lead to firmer pricing for capacity. Names that we believe will be positively impacted include network operators Level 3, Williams Communications (WCG $2.20, STRONG BUY), Montana Power (MTP $4.61, BUY), Global Crossing (GX $1.62, BUY), and to a lesser extent hybrid ILEC/fiber plays like Qwest Communications (Q $12.35, HOLD) and BroadWing

Names that we believe will be positively impacted include network operators Level 3, Williams Communications (WCG $2.20, STRONG BUY), Montana Power (MTP $4.61, BUY), Global Crossing (GX $1.62, BUY), and to a lesser extent hybrid ILEC/fiber plays like Qwest Communications (Q $12.35, HOLD) and BroadWing
(BRW $9.80).

(Wer will schon 6`000`000`000 $$$$ abschreiben?)
Also was solls.

RESEARCH ALERT-JP Morgan on Global Crossing debt
NEW YORK, Dec 12 (Reuters) - J.P. Morgan said on Wednesday that Global Crossing Ltd.`s (NYSE:GX - news) bank debt is ``trading off dramatically today`` amid a market rumor that the company`s subsidiary will draw down a bank facility Global Crossing had previously offered.
``The bank debt market is trading off, we believe, on a rumor that Global Crossing`s subsidiary Asia Global Crossing (NYSE:AX - news) has, or is about to, draw down $200 million of a $400 million bank facility (that Global Crossing) previously agreed to make available,`` J.P. Morgan said in a research note.
``The timing is potentially troubling given that Global Crossing is in publicy dislosed negotations with its banks to restructure convenants that will be violated as of the end of the quarter,`` J.P. Morgan said.
``If Asia Global Crossing is drawing down on its credit facility, it could represent an attempt to shield this money from a potential Chapter 11 filing and that appears the source of concern driving the bank market today,`` the firm said.
Representatives from Global Crossing did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Asia Global Crossing could not be immediately reached for comment

LONDON, Dec 20, 2001 (AFXUK via COMTEX) Global Crossing Ltd is trying to reach a restructuring plan that would include large investments from Asian and European companies, as part of which the Hong Kong businessman Li Kashing would invest at least 1 bln usd, the New York Times reported, citing people close to the situation.
The investments would allow Global Crossing to avoid a protracted bankruptcy filing. But they hinge on "delicate negotiations" with its senior lenders, a group of about two dozen banks including Citigroup and JP Morgan Chase, the paper said.
The banks, which met with company officials yesterday in New York to discuss the plan, need to approve changes to their financing agreements before it can restructure with the new equity. Global Crossing and the lenders hope to work on the plan over the next month, according to the report.
Deutsche Telekom AG could also become a large shareholder through a complicated multiyear deal to acquire capacity on Global Crossing`s network, it added. As part of an agreement which is "potentially valued at several billion dollars", Deutsche Telekom would receive warrants allowing it to buy a large block of Global Crossing shares, people close to the matter were cited as saying.
The companies involved in the restructuring effort declined to comment. Dan Coulter, a spokesman for Global Crossing, told the newspaper that the company is working with the banks to reach a resolution to the looming violation of its financing agreements.
Global Crossing is expected to be in technical violation of these covenants by next month, it said.
The company`s greatest fear is if its creditors decide it is worth "more dead than alive," a person close to the situation said, an assumption that could push Global Crossing into liquidation, where its assets would be auctioned to the highest bidder.
It remains to be seen whether Chairman Gary Winnick will retain control of the company if it restructures, the paper said. It cited a person close to the negotiations as saying that Winnick might also be willing to invest more money in Global Crossing through his investment firm, the Pacific Capital Group.
The interest of some potential investors may depend on Winnick`s personal relationships, especially in the case of Li of Hong Kong. Li and Global Crossing operate a venture together in China.

Global Crossing says it gets waiver from lenders
(UPDATE: Adds company comment, background in paragraphs 4-9, 11)
NEW YORK, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Ailing wholesale telecommunications carrier Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE:GX - news) on Friday said it obtained a waiver from its lenders for potential violations of a credit agreement covering $2.25 billion in borrowings.
Global Crossing said it will continue discussions with its creditors, led by J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.(NYSE:JPM - news) and Citibank, a unit of Citigroup Inc.(NYSE:C - news), about the terms of its credit agreement as the company pursues discussions with potential equity investors.
The waiver is effective through Feb. 13, 2002 and requires Global Crossing to maintain certain cash balances, the company said. In November, Global Crossing said that it was in talks with banks to amend the covenants on the debt.
``We expect to continue discussions with our bank lenders about the terms of our bank credit agreement as we pursue discussions with potential equity investors,`` Global Crossing Chief Executive John Legere said in a statement.
Last week, rumors resurfaced that Honk Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing might invest in Global Crossing to the tune of $1 billion and Germany`s Deutsche Telekom AG might also provide funding. The company declined to say whether or with whom it is in discussions.
The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company`s stock fell 34 percent on Dec. 13 on concerns its bankers might push it into bankruptcy court if it violated its loan agreements.
The company had said it would be in violation of its agreements by year end unless they were renegotiated. A spokesman declined Friday to speculate what would happen after the latest deadline, or whether bankruptcy was an option.
Investors once considered Global Crossing one of the brightest lights among emerging telecom carriers, but it now suffers under heavy debt incurred building expensive networks. Those woes have been exacerbated by slack demand and declining bandwidth prices.
Since the telecom bubble burst in the spring of 2000, many carriers have sought bankruptcy protection or announced debt restructurings.
Global Crossing shares closed Friday at 61 cents, down about 3 cents, or 5 percent. The shares were halted in after-hours trading.
In November, the company posted a third-quarter loss of $3.4 billion, or $3.84 per share, compared with a $602.4 million loss, or 69 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. It also said then that it would cut 1,000 jobs on top of the 2,000 job cuts previously announced.

http://messages.yahoo.com/?action=q&board=gx

Dein Vorschlag spart wirklich einige Zeit.

Dein Vorschlag spart wirklich einige Zeit.

Ted Higase Named Global Crossing Executive Vice President, Carrier Sales
MADISON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2002--Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE:GX - news) announced today the appointment of Ted Higase as executive vice president of carrier sales. Effective immediately, Higase will oversee all sales and marketing activities relating to the communications company`s carrier customers.
``Ted Higase has proven abilities to drive revenue growth, win large global contracts and expand communications service offerings,`` said John Legere, chief executive officer of Global Crossing. ``We`re looking to Ted to lead our carrier sales unit to even greater success in the global wholesale bandwidth marketplace.``
Higase previously served as president of carrier services at Asia Global Crossing (NYSE:AX - news), where he was responsible for corporate-wide sales and marketing, as well as for product management for the company`s wholesale customer segment, including carriers and service providers. Higase helped win many large global and regional capacity customers for Asia Global Crossing. He also launched the world`s fastest trans-Pacific backbone network supporting wholesale IP transit sales, and expanded the company`s footprint across the Asia Pacific region.
Before joining Asia Global Crossing in 2000, Higase was corporate director and general manager of the preferred accounts division at Dell Computer Corporation in Japan, where he achieved 60 percent year-over-year growth in sales to medium-sized businesses. From 1990 to 1998, Mr. Higase enjoyed a successful career at AT&T, where he was one of the company`s youngest division managers.
Mr. Higase holds an MBA from Drake University and a bachelor`s degree in international relations from the University of California, Davis. He also completed the Executive Development Program at Wharton Business School.
Higase replaces Patrick Joggerst, who is leaving Global Crossing to pursue other opportunities.

v. Juli bis September wirklich so sehr verspekuliert?
http://www.nasdaq.com/asp/holdings.asp?symbol=MEDX`&symbol=I…

http://de.biz.yahoo.com/020115/36/2kgdp.html
abgekoppelt.
Gab heute eine dicke, einzelne Kauforder:
21:52:35 0,58 500 000 Stck
Viel Glück weiterhin
