      Hallo an alle!

Stratex Networks and Spescom Limited Announce Distribution Agreement in Africa
/FROM PR NEWSWIRE SAN FRANCISCO 415-543-7800/ [STK] STXN [IN] TLS [SU] CON TO BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY EDITORS: Stratex Networks and Spescom Limited Announce Distribution Agreement in Africa

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DMC Stratex Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: STXN), one of the world`s foremost solutions providers for mobile applications and broadband wireless access recently concluded a landmark agreement with Spescom Limited whereby Spescom will distribute Stratex Networks` world-class broadband telecommunications transmission equipment for the South African, Namibian, Mozambican and Lesotho markets.

The deal represents a mutually beneficial synergy for both companies. Spescom adds wireless transmission technology to its well-established profile as a supplier of telecommunications equipment. Stratex Networks secures a like-minded distribution partner to extend its reach in the African market.

The advantages of Stratex Networks` wireless technology are obvious. Compared to fibre or copper cable networks, microwave systems require less infrastructure, cover difficult terrain more easily, raise no right-of-access issues and make future upgrades easier to achieve.

"Stratex Networks is a good example of a US-based company with outstanding technology and a long-term commitment to maintaining operations in South Africa and Africa as a whole," says Alan Holloway, director, Spescom Limited. "With the rapid changes anticipated locally -- including the introduction of Cell C as a third cellular service provider and the upcoming launch of a second network operator alongside Telkom -- we see a fast-growing market for this flexible and rapidly implemented technology, ideally suited to improving communications throughout the continent as a whole."

Kevin Cherry, sales director at Stratex Networks for the African continent, points out key factors that motivated the agreement. "We view the relationship with Spescom as a long-term commitment," he says. "Spescom has a high profile as a quality distributor with excellent service levels. Apart from the immediate benefits to both existing and new customers that this partnership offers, both companies view this agreement as having the potential to make a major contribution to the improvement of telecommunications infrastructure across Africa." DMC Stratex Networks Announces Third Quarter Fiscal Year 2002 Financial Results

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DMC Stratex Networks (Nasdaq: STXN), one of the world`s foremost wireless solutions providers for mobile applications and broadband access, today announced financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2002. Revenues for the three month period ended December 31, 2001 were $45.2 million. Excluding special charges of $45.0 million related to inventory, restructuring and asset valuation reserves, and impairment costs, net loss per share was $0.15. Loss per share including special charges was $0.70. This compares to revenues of $115.2 million and earnings per share of $0.16 in the third quarter of fiscal year 2001.

New orders in the third quarter of fiscal 2002 were $65.9 million as compared to $133.6 million in the third quarter of 2001. The backlog as of December 31, 2001 was $110.3 million.

"Prolonged weakness in the wireless industry continues to result in lower revenue compared to last year," stated Chuck Kissner, Chairman & CEO. "As demonstrated by these reported results, our cost reduction programs are on track and cash burn has been dramatically reduced. Cash flow from operations, excluding severance and related payments, was positive for the quarter. As a result of the extended downturn, we concluded it was appropriate to record additional special charges related to inventory and other items. Despite the current economic environment, we believe there is now evidence of stabilization in our markets. Orders are up sequentially for the first time in four quarters."

The company has scheduled a conference call today at 5 p.m. EDT (2 p.m. PDT) to discuss these matters and answer questions. Investors are invited to listen to the call live via the Internet by accessing http://www.dmcstratexnetworks.com/investor , clicking on the webcast link and following the registration instructions.
