Asian Information Resources Holdings [ 8025 ]
History
Established in 1994, Asian Information Resources (AIR) collects and distributes
business information on Greater China via the internet as well as providing internet
solutions such as web design to companies.
The company is to begin trading on GEM on December 16, 1999. The IPO issue
price is HK$1.25 for each of its 120 million new shares on offer. A total of 480
million shares will then be outstanding for a market cap of $600 million. There is
no PE to report since the company is still losing money. Of the $135 million net
proceeds, $40 million will go to marketing, $24 mm to e-commerce operations,
$18 mm to translation and new product development, and $17 million to staffing
and opening new offices. The remainder, $36 million, goes straight to the cash
account.
Current
The company has been losing money for the past few years and is on target to
match last year`s results. Revenue for the first 7 months of 1999 were $4.7 million
for a net loss of $1.1 million though a large portion of that was from reorganization
costs written off prior to GEM listing. For the past two years, the average revenue
growth works out to 17% though the growth for 1999 seems quite stagnant at
1.25% versus 36% the year before.

Prior to the IPO and disregarding proceeds from private placements in August and
October, the company had net liabilities rather than assets.
Future
The company plans to expand globally as "the leading global online content
provider of Greater China business information" and become an active player in
the e-commerce market. As the only history available is that the company is fairly
new and has been losing money, the future prospects are therefore unknown and
uncertain, and Quamnet suggests waiting rather than investing immediately.
