LONDON (Dow Jones)--Terrorists are planning fresh attacks against U.K., U.S. and Israeli targets to coincide with the anniversary of the World Trade Center destruction on Sept. 11 last year, according to a report Sunday in the U.K.`s The Observer.
Intelligence services in the U.K., southerrn Asia and the Middle East are detecting an increased volume of communications between suspected al-Qaida cells as the network accelerates efforts to pull off a major operation around the anniversary of the New York and Washington attacks, says the paper.

Sources in Pakistan say al-Qaida operatives there have been given a three-month deadline to work with associates from local hardline Islamic organizations to target Western interests in the region, the report says.

U.K. intelligence sources told the newspaper that the U.K. is third on the list of preferred targets after the U.S. and Israel, and confirmed that credible reports of al-Qaida attacks had grown.
